Chapter 17

1  Nathan first approving the purpose of David to build God an house,  3  after by the Word of God forbiddeth him.  11  He promiseth him blessings and benefits in his seed.  16  David's prayer and thanksgiving.

17:1 ¶ Now it came to pass, (1961) as (834) David {1732} sat {3427} <8804> in his house, {1004} that David {1732} said {559} <8799> to (413) Nathan {5416} the prophet, {5030} Lo, (2009) I (595) dwell {3427} <8802> in an house {1004} of cedars, {730} but the ark {727} of the covenant {1285} of the LORD {3068} [remaineth] under (8478) curtains. {3407}

17:2 Then Nathan {5416} said {559} <8799> unto (413) David, {1732} Do {6213} <8798> all (3605) that (834) [is] in thine heart; {3824} for (3588) God {430} [is] with (5973) thee.

17:3 ¶ And it came to pass (1961) the same (1931) night, {3915} that the word {1697} of God {430} came (1961) to (413) Nathan, {5416} saying, {559} <8800>

17:4 Go [3212] <8798> (1980) and tell {559} <8804> (413) David {1732} my servant, {5650} Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the LORD, {3068} Thou (859) shalt not (3808) build {1129} <8799> me an house {1004} to dwell in: {3427} <8800>

17:5 For (3588) I have not (3808) dwelt (3427) in [3427] <8804> an house {1004} since (4480) the day {3117} that (834) I brought up {5927} <8689> (853) Israel {3478} unto (5704) this (2088) day; {3117} but have gone (1961) from tent {168} (4480) to (413) tent, {168} and from [one] tabernacle {4908} (4480) [to another].

17:6 Wheresoever (3605) (834) I have walked {1980} <8694> with all (3605) Israel, {3478} spake {1696} <8765> I a word {1697} to (854) any {259} of the judges {8199} <8802> of Israel, {3478} whom (834) I commanded {6680} <8765> to feed {7462} <8800> (853) my people, {5971} saying, {559} <8800> Why (4100) have ye not (3808) built {1129} <8804> me an house {1004} of cedars? {730}

17:7 Now (6258) therefore thus (3541) shalt thou say {559} <8799> unto my servant {5650} David, {1732} Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the LORD {3068} of hosts, {6635} I (589) took {3947} <8804> thee from (4480) the sheepcote, {5116} [even] from (4480) following {310} the sheep, {6629} that thou shouldest be (1961) ruler {5057} over (5921) my people {5971} Israel: {3478}

17:8 And I have been (1961) with (5973) thee whithersoever (3605) (834) thou hast walked, {1980} <8804> and have cut off {3772} <8686> (853) all (3605) thine enemies {341} <8802> from before {6440} (4480) thee, and have made {6213} <8804> thee a name {8034} like the name {8034} of the great men {1419} that (834) [are] in the earth. {776}

17:9 Also I will ordain {7760} <8804> a place {4725} for my people {5971} Israel, {3478} and will plant {5193} <8804> them, and they shall dwell {7931} <8804> in their place, (8478) and shall be moved {7264} <8799> no (3808) more; (5750) neither (3808) shall the children {1121} of wickedness {5766} waste {1086} <8763> them any more, {3254} <8686> as (834) at the beginning, {7223}

17:10 And since the time {3117} (4480) that (834) I commanded {6680} <8765> judges {8199} <8802> [to be] over (5921) my people {5971} Israel. {3478} Moreover I will subdue {3665} <8689> (853) all (3605) thine enemies. {341} <8802> Furthermore I tell {5046} <8686> thee that the LORD {3068} will build {1129} <8799> thee an house. {1004}

17:11 ¶ And it shall come to pass, (1961) when (3588) thy days {3117} be expired {4390} <8804> that thou must go [3212] <8800> (1980) [to be] with (5973) thy fathers, {1} that I will raise up {6965} <8689> (853) thy seed {2233} after {310} thee, which (834) shall be (1961) of thy sons; {1121} (4480) and I will establish {3559} <8689> (853) his kingdom. {4438}

17:12 He (1931) shall build {1129} <8799> me an house, {1004} and I will stablish {3559} <8790> (853) his throne {3678} for [5704] ever. {5769} (5704)

17:13 I (589) will be (1961) his father, {1} and he (1931) shall be (1961) my son: {1121} and I will not (3808) take [5493] <0> my mercy [2617] away {5493} <8686> (2617) from (4480) (5973) him, as (834) I took {5493} <8689> [it] from [him] that (4480) (834) was (1961) before {6440} thee:

17:14 But I will settle {5975} <8689> him in mine house {1004} and in my kingdom {4438} for ever: {5769} (5704) and his throne {3678} shall be (1961) established {3559} <8737> for [5704] evermore. {5769} (5704)

17:15 According to all (3605) these (428) words, {1697} and according to all (3605) this (2088) vision, {2377} so (3651) did Nathan {5416} speak {1696} <8765> unto (413) David. {1732}

17:16 ¶ And David {1732} the king {4428} came {935} <8799> and sat {3427} <8799> before {6440} the LORD, {3068} and said, {559} <8799> Who (4310) [am] I, (589) O LORD {3068} God, {430} and what (4310) [is] mine house, {1004} that (3588) thou hast brought {935} <8689> me hitherto? {1988} (5704)

17:17 And [yet] this (2063) was a small thing {6994} <8799> in thine eyes, {5869} O God; {430} for thou hast [also] spoken {1696} <8762> of (5921) thy servant's {5650} house {1004} for a great while to come, {7350} (4480) and hast regarded {7200} <8804> me according to the estate {8448} of a man {120} of high degree, {4609} O LORD {3068} God. {430}

17:18 What (4100) can [3254] <0> David {1732} [speak] more {3254} <8686> (5750) to (413) thee for the honour {3519} of (853) thy servant? {5650} for thou (859) knowest {3045} <8804> (853) thy servant. {5650}

17:19 O LORD, {3068} for thy servant's [5650] sake, (5668) (5650) and according to thine own heart, {3820} hast thou done {6213} <8804> (853) all (3605) this (2063) greatness, {1420} in making known {3045} <8687> (853) all (3605) [these] great things. {1420}

17:20 O LORD, {3068} [there is] none (369) like thee, (3644) neither (369) [is there any] God {430} beside {2108} thee, according to all (3605) that (834) we have heard {8085} <8804> with our ears. {241}

17:21 And what (4310) one {259} nation {1471} in the earth {776} [is] like thy people {5971} Israel, {3478} whom (834) God {430} went {1980} <8804> to redeem {6299} <8800> [to be] his own people, {5971} to make {7760} <8800> thee a name {8034} of greatness {1420} and terribleness, {3372} <8737> by driving out {1644} <8763> nations {1471} from before {6440} (4480) thy people, {5971} whom (834) thou hast redeemed {6299} <8804> out of Egypt? {4714} (4480)

17:22 For (853) thy people {5971} Israel {3478} didst thou make {5414} <8799> thine own people {5971} for [5704] ever; {5769} (5704) and thou, (859) LORD, {3068} becamest (1961) their God. {430}

17:23 Therefore now, (6258) LORD, {3068} let the thing {1697} that (834) thou hast spoken {1696} <8765> concerning (5921) thy servant {5650} and concerning (5921) his house {1004} be established {539} <8735> for [5704] ever, {5769} (5704) and do {6213} <8798> as (834) thou hast said. {1696} <8765>

17:24 Let it even be established, {539} <8735> that thy name {8034} may be magnified {1431} <8799> for [5704] ever, {5769} (5704) saying, {559} <8800> The LORD {3068} of hosts {6635} [is] the God {430} of Israel, {3478} [even] a God {430} to Israel: {3478} and [let] the house {1004} of David {1732} thy servant {5650} [be] established {3559} <8737> before {6440} thee.

17:25 For (3588) thou, (859) O my God, {430} hast told {1540} {241} <8804> (853) thy servant {5650} that thou wilt build {1129} <8800> him an house: {1004} therefore (5921) (3651) thy servant {5650} hath found {4672} <8804> [in his heart] to pray {6419} <8692> before {6440} thee.

17:26 And now, (6258) LORD, {3068} thou (859) art God, {430} and hast promised {1696} <8762> this (2063) goodness {2896} unto (5921) thy servant: {5650}

17:27 Now (6258) therefore let it please {2974} <8689> thee to bless {1288} <8763> (853) the house {1004} of thy servant, {5650} that it may be (1961) before {6440} thee for ever: {5769} for (3588) thou (859) blessest, {1288} <8765> O LORD, {3068} and [it shall be] blessed {1288} <8794> for ever. {5769}
