Chapter 19

1  Jonathan discloseth his father's purpose to kill David.  4  He persuadeth his father to reconciliation.  8  By reason of David's good success in a new war, Saul's malicious rage breaketh out against him.  12  Michal deceiveth her father with an image in David's bed.  18  David cometh to Samuel in Naioth.  20  Saul's messengers sent to take David,  23  and Saul himself, prophesy.

19:1 ¶ And Saul {7586} spake {1696} <8762> to (413) Jonathan [3129] (3083) his son, {1121} and to (413) all (3605) his servants, {5650} that they should kill {4191} <8687> (853) David. {1732}

19:2 But Jonathan {3083} Saul's {7586} son {1121} delighted {2654} <8804> much {3966} in David: {1732} and Jonathan {3083} told {5046} <8686> David, {1732} saying, {559} <8800> Saul {7586} my father {1} seeketh {1245} <8764> to kill {4191} <8687> thee: now (6258) therefore, I pray thee, (4994) take heed [8104] <8734> to thyself (8104) until the morning, {1242} and abide {3427} <8804> in a secret {5643} [place], and hide [2244] <8738> thyself: (2244)

19:3 And I (589) will go out {3318} <8799> and stand {5975} <8804> beside {3027} my father {1} in the field {7704} where (834) (8033) thou (859) [art], and I (589) will commune {1696} <8762> with (413) my father {1} of thee; and what {4100} I see, {7200} <8804> that I will tell {5046} <8689> thee.

19:4 ¶ And Jonathan {3083} spake {1696} <8762> good {2896} of David {1732} unto (413) Saul {7586} his father, {1} and said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, Let not (408) the king {4428} sin {2398} <8799> against his servant, {5650} against David; {1732} because (3588) he hath not (3808) sinned {2398} <8804> against thee, and because (3588) his works {4639} [have been] to thee-ward very {3966} good: {2896}

19:5 For he did put {7760} <8799> (853) his life {5315} in his hand, {3709} and slew {5221} <8686> (853) the Philistine, {6430} and the LORD {3068} wrought {6213} <8799> a great {1419} salvation {8668} for all (3605) Israel: {3478} thou sawest {7200} <8804> [it], and didst rejoice: {8055} <8799> wherefore (4100) then wilt thou sin {2398} <8799> against innocent {5355} blood, {1818} to slay {4191} <8687> (853) David {1732} without a cause? {2600}

19:6 And Saul {7586} hearkened {8085} <8799> unto the voice {6963} of Jonathan: {3083} and Saul {7586} sware, {7650} <8735> [As] the LORD {3068} liveth, {2416} he shall not {518} be slain. {4191} <8714>

19:7 And Jonathan {3083} called {7121} <8799> David, {1732} and Jonathan {3083} shewed {5046} <8686> him (853) all (3605) those (428) things. {1697} And Jonathan {3083} brought {935} <8686> (853) David {1732} to (413) Saul, {7586} and he was (1961) in his presence, {6440} as in times past. {865} {8032}

19:8 ¶ And there was (1961) war {4421} again: {3254} <8686> and David {1732} went out, {3318} <8799> and fought {3898} <8735> with the Philistines, {6430} and slew {5221} <8686> them with a great {1419} slaughter; {4347} and they fled {5127} <8799> from {6440} (4480) him.

19:9 And the evil {7451} spirit {7307} from the LORD {3068} was (1961) upon (413) Saul, {7586} as he (1931) sat {3427} <8802> in his house {1004} with his javelin {2595} in his hand: {3027} and David {1732} played {5059} <8764> with [his] hand. {3027}

19:10 And Saul {7586} sought {1245} <8762> to smite {5221} <8687> David {1732} even to the wall {7023} with the javelin; {2595} but he slipped away {6362} <8799> out of Saul's [7586] presence, {6440} (4480) (7586) and he smote {5221} <8686> (853) the javelin {2595} into the wall: {7023} and David {1732} fled, {5127} <8804> and escaped {4422} <8735> that (1931) night. {3915}

19:11 Saul {7586} also sent {7971} <8799> messengers {4397} unto (413) David's {1732} house, {1004} to watch {8104} <8800> him, and to slay {4191} <8687> him in the morning: {1242} and Michal {4324} David's {1732} wife {802} told {5046} <8686> him, saying, {559} <8800> If (518) thou save {4422} <8764> not (369) (853) thy life {5315} to night, {3915} to morrow {4279} thou (859) shalt be slain. {4191} <8716>

19:12 ¶ So Michal {4324} let [3381] <0> David [1732] down {3381} <8686> (853) (1732) through (1157) a window: {2474} and he went, [3212] <8799> (1980) and fled, {1272} <8799> and escaped. {4422} <8735>

19:13 And Michal {4324} took {3947} <8799> (853) an image, {8655} and laid {7760} <8799> [it] in (413) the bed, {4296} and put {7760} <8804> a pillow {3523} of goats' {5795} [hair] for his bolster, {4763} and covered {3680} <8762> [it] with a cloth. {899}

19:14 And when Saul {7586} sent {7971} <8799> messengers {4397} to take {3947} <8800> (853) David, {1732} she said, {559} <8799> He (1931) [is] sick. {2470} <8802>

19:15 And Saul {7586} sent {7971} <8799> (853) the messengers {4397} [again] to see {7200} <8800> (853) David, {1732} saying, {559} <8800> Bring him up {5927} <8685> (853) to (413) me in the bed, {4296} that I may slay {4191} <8687> him.

19:16 And when the messengers {4397} were come in, {935} <8799> behold, (2009) [there was] an image {8655} in (413) the bed, {4296} with a pillow {3523} of goats' {5795} [hair] for his bolster. {4763}

19:17 And Saul {7586} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Michal, {4324} Why (4100) hast thou deceived (7411) me so, [7411] <8765> (3602) and sent away {7971} <8762> (853) mine enemy, {341} <8802> that he is escaped? {4422} <8735> And Michal {4324} answered {559} <8799> (413) Saul, {7586} He (1931) said {559} <8804> unto (413) me, Let me go; {7971} <8761> why (4100) should I kill {4191} <8686> thee?

19:18 ¶ So David {1732} fled, {1272} <8804> and escaped, {4422} <8735> and came {935} <8799> to (413) Samuel {8050} to Ramah, {7414} and told {5046} <8686> him (853) all (3605) that (834) Saul {7586} had done {6213} <8804> to him. And he (1931) and Samuel {8050} went [3212] <8799> (1980) and dwelt {3427} <8799> in Naioth. {5121}

19:19 And it was told {5046} <8714> Saul, {7586} saying, {559} <8800> Behold, (2009) David {1732} [is] at Naioth {5121} in Ramah. {7414}

19:20 And Saul {7586} sent {7971} <8799> messengers {4397} to take {3947} <8800> (853) David: {1732} and when they saw {7200} <8799> (853) the company {3862} of the prophets {5030} prophesying, {5012} <8737> and Samuel {8050} standing {5975} <8802> [as] appointed {5324} <8737> over (5921) them, the Spirit {7307} of God {430} was (1961) upon (5921) the messengers {4397} of Saul, {7586} and they (1992) also (1571) prophesied. {5012} <8691>

19:21 And when it was told {5046} <8686> Saul, {7586} he sent {7971} <8799> other {312} messengers, {4397} and they (1992) prophesied {5012} <8691> likewise. (1571) And Saul {7586} sent {7971} <8799> messengers {4397} again {3254} <8686> the third {7992} time, and they (1992) prophesied {5012} <8691> also. (1571)

19:22 Then went [3212] <8799> (1980) he (1931) also (1571) to Ramah, {7414} and came {935} <8799> to (5704) a great {1419} well {953} that (834) [is] in Sechu: {7906} and he asked {7592} <8799> and said, {559} <8799> Where {375} [are] Samuel {8050} and David? {1732} And [one] said, {559} <8799> Behold, (2009) [they be] at Naioth {5121} in Ramah. {7414}

19:23 And he went [3212] <8799> (1980) thither (8033) to (413) Naioth {5121} in Ramah: {7414} and the Spirit {7307} of God {430} was (1961) upon (5921) him (1931) also, (1571) and he went [3212] <8799> on, {1980} <8800> and prophesied, {5012} <8691> until (5704) he came {935} <8800> to Naioth {5121} in Ramah. {7414}

19:24 And he (1931) stripped off {6584} <8799> his clothes {899} also, {1571} and prophesied {5012} <8691> before {6440} Samuel {8050} in like manner, (1571) and lay down {5307} <8799> naked {6174} all (3605) that (1931) day {3117} and all (3605) that night. {3915} Wherefore (5921) (3651) they say, {559} <8799> [Is] Saul {7586} also (1571) among the prophets? {5030}
