1 Samuel

Chapter 3

1  How the Word of the LORD was first revealed to Samuel.  11  God telleth Samuel the destruction of Eli's house.  15  Samuel, though loth, telleth Eli the vision.  19  Samuel groweth in credit.

3:1 ¶ And the child {5288} Samuel {8050} ministered {8334} <8764> unto (853) the LORD {3068} before {6440} Eli. {5941} And the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} was (1961) precious {3368} in those (1992) days; {3117} [there was] no (369) open {6555} <8737> vision. {2377}

3:2 And it came to pass (1961) at that time, {3117} when (1931) Eli {5941} [was] laid down {7901} <8802> in his place, {4725} and his eyes {5869} began {2490} <8689> to wax dim, {3544} [that] he could {3201} <8799> not (3808) see; {7200} <8800>

3:3 And ere (2962) the lamp {5216} of God {430} went out {3518} <8799> in the temple {1964} of the LORD, {3068} where (834) (8033) the ark {727} of God {430} [was], and Samuel {8050} was laid down {7901} <8802> [to sleep];

3:4 That the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8799> (413) Samuel: {8050} and he answered, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I.

3:5 And he ran {7323} <8799> unto (413) Eli, {5941} and said, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I; [2009] for (3588) thou calledst {7121} <8804> me. And he said, {559} <8799> I called {7121} <8804> not; (3808) lie down {7901} <8798> again. {7725} <8798> And he went [3212] <8799> (1980) and lay down. {7901} <8799>

3:6 And the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8800> yet (5750) again, {3254} <8686> Samuel. {8050} And Samuel {8050} arose {6965} <8799> and went [3212] <8799> (1980) to (413) Eli, {5941} and said, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I; for (3588) thou didst call {7121} <8804> me. And he answered, {559} <8799> I called {7121} <8804> not, (3808) my son; {1121} lie down {7901} <8798> again. {7725} <8798>

3:7 Now Samuel {8050} did not yet {2962} know {3045} <8804> (853) the LORD, {3068} neither was the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} yet (2962) revealed {1540} <8735> unto (413) him.

3:8 And the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8800> Samuel {8050} again {3254} <8686> the third (7992) time. [7992] And he arose {6965} <8799> and went [3212] <8799> (1980) to (413) Eli, {5941} and said, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I; for (3588) thou didst call {7121} <8804> me. And Eli {5941} perceived {995} <8799> that (3588) the LORD {3068} had called {7121} <8802> the child. {5288}

3:9 Therefore Eli {5941} said {559} <8799> unto Samuel, {8050} Go, [3212] <8798> (1980) lie down: {7901} <8798> and it shall be, (1961) if (518) he call {7121} <8799> (413) thee, that thou shalt say, {559} <8804> Speak, {1696} <8761> LORD; {3068} for (3588) thy servant {5650} heareth. {8085} <8802> So Samuel {8050} went [3212] <8799> (1980) and lay down {7901} <8799> in his place. {4725}

3:10 And the LORD {3068} came, {935} <8799> and stood, {3320} <8691> and called {7121} <8799> as at other times, {6471} Samuel, {8050} Samuel. {8050} Then Samuel {8050} answered, {559} <8799> Speak; {1696} <8761> for (3588) thy servant {5650} heareth. {8085} <8802>

3:11 ¶ And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> to (413) Samuel, {8050} Behold, (2009) I (595) will do {6213} <8802> a thing {1697} in Israel, {3478} at which (834) both {8147} the ears {241} of every one (3605) that heareth {8085} <8802> it shall tingle. {6750} <8799>

3:12 In that (1931) day {3117} I will perform {6965} <8686> against (413) Eli {5941} (853) all (3605) [things] which (834) I have spoken {1696} <8765> concerning {413} his house: {1004} when I begin, {2490} <8687> I will also make an end. {3615} <8763>

3:13 For I have told {5046} <8689> him that (3588) I (589) will judge {8199} <8802> (853) his house {1004} for [5704] ever {5769} (5704) for the iniquity {5771} which (834) he knoweth; {3045} <8804> because (3588) his sons {1121} made themselves vile, {7043} <8764> and he restrained {3543} <8765> them not. (3808)

3:14 And therefore (3651) I have sworn {7650} <8738> unto the house {1004} of Eli, {5941} that the iniquity {5771} of Eli's {5941} house {1004} shall not (518) be purged {3722} <8691> with sacrifice {2077} nor offering {4503} for [5704] ever. {5769} (5704)

3:15 ¶ And Samuel {8050} lay {7901} <8799> until (5704) the morning, {1242} and opened {6605} <8799> (853) the doors {1817} of the house {1004} of the LORD. {3068} And Samuel {8050} feared {3372} <8804> to shew {5046} <8687> (4480) (413) Eli {5941} (853) the vision. {4759}

3:16 Then Eli {5941} called {7121} <8799> (853) Samuel, {8050} and said, {559} <8799> Samuel, {8050} my son. {1121} And he answered, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I.

3:17 And he said, {559} <8799> What (4100) [is] the thing {1697} that (834) [the LORD] hath said {1696} <8765> unto (413) thee? I pray thee (4994) hide {3582} <8762> [it] not (408) from (4480) me: God {430} do (6213) so [6213] <8799> (3541) to thee, and more (3254) also, [3254] <8686> (3541) if (518) thou hide {3582} <8762> [any] thing {1697} from (4480) me of all (4480) (3605) the things {1697} that (834) he said {1696} <8765> unto (413) thee.

3:18 And Samuel {8050} told {5046} <8686> him (853) every (3605) whit, {1697} and hid {3582} <8765> nothing (3808) from (4480) him. And he said, {559} <8799> It (1931) [is] the LORD: {3068} let him do {6213} <8799> what seemeth {5869} him good. {2896}

3:19 ¶ And Samuel {8050} grew, {1431} <8799> and the LORD {3068} was (1961) with (5973) him, and did let none (3808) (4480) (3605) of his words {1697} fall {5307} <8689> to the ground. {776}

3:20 And all (3605) Israel {3478} from Dan {1835} (4480) even to (5704) Beersheba {884} knew {3045} <8799> that (3588) Samuel {8050} [was] established {539} <8737> [to be] a prophet {5030} of the LORD. {3068}

3:21 And the LORD {3068} appeared {7200} <8736> again {3254} <8686> in Shiloh: {7887} for (3588) the LORD {3068} revealed [1540] <8738> himself (1540) to (413) Samuel {8050} in Shiloh {7887} by the word {1697} of the LORD. {3068}
