Chapter 30

1  The Amalekites spoil Ziklag.  4  David asking counsel is encouraged by God to pursue them.  11  By the means of a revived Egyptian he is brought to the enemies, and recovereth all the spoil.  22  David's law to divide the spoil equally between them that fight and them that keep the stuff.  26  He sendeth presents to his friends.

30:1 ¶ And it came to pass, (1961) when David {1732} and his men [582] (376) were come {935} <8800> to Ziklag {6860} on the third {7992} day, {3117} that the Amalekites {6003} had invaded {6584} <8804> (413) the south, {5045} and Ziklag, {6860} and smitten {5221} <8686> (853) Ziklag, {6860} and burned {8313} <8799> it with fire; {784}

30:2 And had taken the women [802] captives, {7617} <8799> (853) (802) that (834) [were] therein: they slew {4191} <8689> not (3808) any, {376} either (5704) great {1419} or small, {6996} (4480) but carried [them] away, {5090} <8799> and went [3212] <8799> (1980) on their way. {1870}

30:3 ¶ So David {1732} and his men [582] (376) came {935} <8799> to (413) the city, {5892} and, behold, (2009) [it was] burned {8313} <8803> with fire; {784} and their wives, {802} and their sons, {1121} and their daughters, {1323} were taken captives. {7617} <8738>

30:4 Then David {1732} and the people {5971} that (834) [were] with (854) him lifted up {5375} <8799> (853) their voice {6963} and wept, {1058} <8799> until (5704) (834) they had no more (369) power {3581} to weep. {1058} <8800>

30:5 And David's {1732} two {8147} wives {802} were taken captives, {7617} <8738> Ahinoam {293} the Jezreelitess, {3159} and Abigail {26} the wife {802} of Nabal {5037} the Carmelite. {3761}

30:6 And David {1732} was greatly {3966} distressed; {3334} <8799> for (3588) the people {5971} spake {559} <8804> of stoning {5619} <8800> him, because (3588) the soul {5315} of all (3605) the people {5971} was grieved, {4843} <8804> every man {376} for (5921) his sons {1121} and for (5921) his daughters: {1323} but David {1732} encouraged [2388] <8691> himself (2388) in the LORD {3068} his God. {430}

30:7 And David {1732} said {559} <8799> to (413) Abiathar {54} the priest, {3548} Ahimelech's {288} son, {1121} I pray thee, (4994) bring me hither {5066} <8685> the ephod. {646} And Abiathar {54} brought {5066} <8686> thither (853) the ephod {646} to (413) David. {1732}

30:8 And David {1732} enquired {7592} <8799> at the LORD, {3068} saying, {559} <8800> Shall I pursue {7291} <8799> after {310} this (2088) troop? {1416} shall I overtake {5381} <8686> them? And he answered {559} <8799> him, Pursue: {7291} <8798> for (3588) thou shalt surely [5381] <8687> overtake {5381} <8686> [them], and without fail [5337] <8687> recover {5337} <8686> [all].

30:9 So David {1732} went, [3212] <8799> (1980) he (1931) and the six {8337} hundred {3967} men {376} that (834) [were] with (854) him, and came {935} <8799> to (5704) the brook {5158} Besor, {1308} where those that were left behind {3498} <8737> stayed. {5975} <8804>

30:10 But David {1732} pursued, {7291} <8799> he (1931) and four {702} hundred {3967} men: {376} for two hundred {3967} (376) abode behind, {5975} <8799> which (834) were so faint {6296} <8765> that they could not go over {5674} <8800> (4480) (853) the brook {5158} Besor. {1308}

30:11 ¶ And they found {4672} <8799> an Egyptian {376} {4713} in the field, {7704} and brought {3947} <8799> him to (413) David, {1732} and gave {5414} <8799> him bread, {3899} and he did eat; {398} <8799> and they made him drink {8248} <8686> water; {4325}

30:12 And they gave {5414} <8799> him a piece {6400} of a cake [1690] of figs, (1690) and two {8147} clusters of raisins: {6778} and when he had eaten, {398} <8799> his spirit {7307} came again {7725} <8799> to (413) him: for (3588) he had eaten {398} <8804> no (3808) bread, {3899} nor (3808) drunk {8354} <8804> [any] water, {4325} three {7969} days {3117} and three {7969} nights. {3915}

30:13 And David {1732} said {559} <8799> unto him, To whom (4310) [belongest] thou? (859) and whence (335) (4480) (2088) [art] thou? (859) And he said, {559} <8799> I (595) [am] a young man {5288} of Egypt, {4713} servant {5650} to an Amalekite; {376} {6003} and my master {113} left {5800} <8799> me, because (3588) three {7969} days {3117} agone I fell sick. {2470} <8804>

30:14 We (587) made an invasion {6584} <8804> [upon] the south {5045} of the Cherethites, {3774} and upon (5921) [the coast] which (834) [belongeth] to Judah, {3063} and upon (5921) the south {5045} of Caleb; {3612} and we burned {8313} <8804> Ziklag {6860} with fire. {784}

30:15 And David {1732} said {559} <8799> to (413) him, Canst thou bring me down {3381} <8686> to (413) this (2088) company? {1416} And he said, {559} <8799> Swear {7650} <8734> unto me by God, {430} that thou wilt neither (518) kill {4191} <8686> me, nor {518} deliver {5462} <8686> me into the hands {3027} of my master, {113} and I will bring thee down {3381} <8686> to (413) this (2088) company. {1416}

30:16 ¶ And when he had brought him down, {3381} <8686> behold, (2009) [they were] spread abroad {5203} <8803> upon (5921) (6440) all [6440] (3605) the earth, {776} eating {398} <8802> and drinking, {8354} <8802> and dancing, {2287} <8802> because of all (3605) the great {1419} spoil {7998} that (834) they had taken {3947} <8804> out of the land {776} (4480) of the Philistines, {6430} and out of the land {776} (4480) of Judah. {3063}

30:17 And David {1732} smote {5221} <8686> them from the twilight {5399} (4480) even unto (5704) the evening {6153} of the next day: {4283} and there escaped {4422} <8738> not (3808) a man {376} of them, save (3588) (518) four {702} hundred {3967} young {5288} men, {376} which (834) rode {7392} <8804> upon (5921) camels, {1581} and fled. {5127} <8799>

30:18 And David {1732} recovered {5337} <8686> (853) all (3605) that (834) the Amalekites {6002} had carried away: {3947} <8804> and David {1732} rescued {5337} <8689> his two {8147} wives. {802}

30:19 And there was nothing (3808) lacking {5737} <8738> to them, neither {4480} small {6996} nor (5704) great, {1419} neither (5704) sons {1121} nor daughters, {1323} neither spoil, {7998} (4480) nor (5704) any (3605) [thing] that (834) they had taken {3947} <8804> to them: David {1732} recovered {7725} <8689> all. (3605)

30:20 And David {1732} took {3947} <8799> (853) all (3605) the flocks {6629} and the herds, {1241} [which] they drave {5090} <8804> before {6440} those {1931} [other] cattle, {4735} and said, {559} <8799> This (2088) [is] David's {1732} spoil. {7998}

30:21 ¶ And David {1732} came {935} <8799> to (413) the two hundred {3967} men, [582] (376) which (834) were so faint {6296} <8765> that they could not follow {310} [3212] <8800> (1980) David, {1732} whom they had made also to abide {3427} <8686> at the brook {5158} Besor: {1308} and they went forth {3318} <8799> to meet {7125} <8800> David, {1732} and to meet {7125} <8800> the people {5971} that (834) [were] with (854) him: and when David {1732} came near {5066} <8799> to (853) the people, {5971} he saluted {7592} {7965} <8799> them.

30:22 Then answered {6030} <8799> all (3605) the wicked {7451} men {376} and [men] of Belial, {1100} of those [582] (4480) (376) that (834) went {1980} <8804> with (5973) David, {1732} and said, {559} <8799> Because (3282) (834) they went {1980} <8804> not (3808) with (5973) us, we will not (3808) give {5414} <8799> them [ought] of the spoil {7998} (4480) that (834) we have recovered, {5337} <8689> save (3588) (518) to every man {376} (853) his wife {802} and his children, {1121} that they may lead [them] away, {5090} <8799> and depart. [3212] <8799> (1980)

30:23 Then said {559} <8799> David, {1732} Ye shall not (3808) do (6213) so, [6213] <8799> (3651) my brethren, {251} with (854) that which (834) the LORD {3068} hath given {5414} <8804> us, who hath preserved {8104} <8799> us, and delivered {5414} <8799> (853) the company {1416} that came {935} <8802> against (5921) us into our hand. {3027}

30:24 For who (4310) will hearken {8085} <8799> unto you in this (2088) matter? {1697} but (3588) as his part {2506} [is] that goeth down {3381} <8802> k8675- <8717> to the battle, {4421} so [shall] his part {2506} [be] that tarrieth {3427} <8802> by (5921) the stuff: {3627} they shall part {2505} <8799> alike. {3162}

30:25 And it was (1961) [so] from that day {3117} (4480) (1931) forward, {4605} that he made {7760} <8799> it a statute {2706} and an ordinance {4941} for Israel {3478} unto (5704) this (2088) day. {3117}

30:26 ¶ And when David {1732} came {935} <8799> to (413) Ziklag, {6860} he sent {7971} <8762> of the spoil {7998} (4480) unto the elders {2205} of Judah, {3063} [even] to his friends, {7453} saying, {559} <8800> Behold (2009) a present {1293} for you of the spoil {7998} (4480) of the enemies {341} <8802> of the LORD; {3068}

30:27 To [them] [834] which (834) [were] in Bethel, {1008} and to [them] which (834) [were] in south {5045} Ramoth, {7418} and to [them] which (834) [were] in Jattir, {3492}

30:28 And to [them] which (834) [were] in Aroer, {6177} and to [them] which (834) [were] in Siphmoth, {8224} and to [them] which (834) [were] in Eshtemoa, {851}

30:29 And to [them] which (834) [were] in Rachal, {7403} and to [them] which (834) [were] in the cities {5892} of the Jerahmeelites, {3397} and to [them] which (834) [were] in the cities {5892} of the Kenites, {7017}

30:30 And to [them] which (834) [were] in Hormah, {2767} and to [them] which (834) [were] in Chorashan, {3565} and to [them] which (834) [were] in Athach, {6269}

30:31 And to [them] which (834) [were] in Hebron, {2275} and to all (3605) the places {4725} where (834) (8033) David {1732} himself (1931) and his men [582] (376) were wont to haunt. {1980} <8694>
