1 Samuel

Chapter 9

1  Saul despairing to find his father's asses,  6  by the counsel of his servant,  11  and direction of young maidens,  15  according to God's revelation,  18  cometh to Samuel.  19  Samuel entertaineth Saul at the feast.  25  Samuel, after secret communication, bringeth Saul on his way.

        9:1 ¶ Now there was 1961x a man 376 of Benjamin, 1144 4480x whose name 8034 [was] Kish, 7027 the son 1121 of Abiel, 22 the son 1121 of Zeror, 6872 the son 1121 of Bechorath, 1064 the son 1121 of Aphiah, 647 a Benjamite, 1145 a mighty 1368y man 376y 1368x of power. 2428

        9:2 And he had 1961x a son, 1121 whose name 8034 [was] Saul, 7586 a choice young man, 970 and a goodly: 2896 and [there was] not 369x among the children 1121 4480x of Israel 3478 a goodlier 2896 person 376 than 4480x he: from his shoulders 7926 4480x and upward 4605 [he was] higher 1364 than any 4480x 3605x of the people. 5971

        9:3 And the asses 860 of Kish 7027 Saul's 7586 father 1 were lost. 6 8799z And Kish 7027 said 559 8799z to 413x Saul 7586 his son, 1121 Take 3947 8798z now 4994x 853x one 259 of the servants 5288 4480x with 854x thee, and arise, 6965 8798z go 3212y 8798z 1980x seek 1245 8761z 853x the asses. 860

        9:4 And he passed through 5674 8799z mount 2022 Ephraim, 669 and passed through 5674 8799z the land 776 of Shalisha, 8031 but they found 4672 8804z [them] not: 3808x then they passed through 5674 8799z the land 776 of Shalim, 8171 and [there they were] not: 369x and he passed through 5674 8799z the land 776 of the Benjamites, 1145 but they found 4672 8804z [them] not. 3808x

        9:5 [And] when they 1992x were come 935 8804z to the land 776 of Zuph, 6689 Saul 7586 said 559 8804z to his servant 5288 that 834x [was] with 5973x him, Come, 3212y 8798z 1980x and let us return; 7725 8799z lest 6435x my father 1 leave 2308 8799z [caring] for 4480x the asses, 860 and take thought 1672 8804z for us.

        9:6 And he said 559 8799z unto him, Behold 2009x now, 4994x [there is] in this 2063x city 5892 a man 376 of God, 430 and [he is] an honourable 3513 8737z man; 376 all 3605x that 834x he saith 1696 8762z cometh 935y 8799z surely to pass: 935 8800z now 4994x let us go 3212y 8799z 1980x thither; 8033x peradventure 194x he can shew 5046 8686z us 853x our way 1870 that 834x 5921x we should go. 1980 8804z

        9:7 Then said 559 8799z Saul 7586 to his servant, 5288 But, behold, 2009x [if] we go, 3212y 8799z 1980x what 4100x shall we bring 935 8686z the man? 376 for 3588x the bread 3899 is spent 235 8804z in our vessels, 3627 4480x and [there is] not 369x a present 8670 to bring 935 8687z to the man 376 of God: 430 what 4100x have we?

        9:8 And the servant 5288 answered 6030 8800z 853x Saul 7586 again, 3254 8686z and said, 559 8799z Behold, 2009x I have 4672y 8738z here 4672x at hand 3027 the fourth part 7253 of a shekel 8255 of silver: 3701 [that] will I give 5414 8804z to the man 376 of God, 430 to tell 5046 8689z us 853x our way. 1870

        9:9 (Beforetime 6440 in Israel, 3478 when a man 376 went 3212y 8800z 1980x to enquire 1875 8800z of God, 430 thus 3541x he spake, 559 8804z Come, 3212y 8798z 1980x and let us go 3212y 8799z 1980x to 5704x the seer: 7200 8802z for 3588x [he that is] now 3117 [called] a Prophet 5030 was beforetime 6440 called 7121 8735z a Seer.) 7200 8802z

        9:10 Then said 1697y 559x Saul 7586 to his servant, 5288 Well 2896 said; 559y 8799z 1697x come, 3212y 8798z 1980x let us go. 3212y 8799z 1980x So they went 3212y 8799z 1980x unto 413x the city 5892 where 834x 8033x the man 376 of God 430 [was].

        9:11 ¶ [And] as they 1992x went up 5927 8802z the hill 4608 to the city, 5892 they 1992x found 4672 8804z young maidens 5291 going out 3318 8802z to draw 7579 8800z water, 4325 and said 559 8799z unto them, Is 3426 the seer 7200 8802z here? 2088x

        9:12 And they answered 6030 8799z them, and said, 559 8799z He is; 3426 behold, 2009x [he is] before 6440 you: make haste 4116 8761z now, 6258x for 3588x he came 935 8804z to day 3117 to the city; 5892 for 3588x [there is] a sacrifice 2077 of the people 5971 to day 3117 in the high place: 1116

        9:13 As soon as ye be come 935 8800z into the city, 5892 ye shall straightway 3651 find 4672 8799z him, before 2962x he go up 5927 8799z to the high place 1116 to eat: 398 8800z for 3588x the people 5971 will not 3808x eat 398 8799z until 5704x he come, 935 8800z because 3588x he 1931x doth bless 1288 8762z the sacrifice; 2077 [and] afterwards 310 3651 they eat 398 8799z that be bidden. 7121 8803z Now 6258x therefore get you up; 5927 8798z for 3588x about this time 3117 ye shall find 4672 8799z him.

        9:14 And they went up 5927 8799z into 8432y the city: 5892 [and] when they 1992x were come 935 8802z into 8432x the city, 5892 behold, 2009x Samuel 8050 came out 3318 8802z against 7125 8800z them, for to go up 5927 8800z to the high place. 1116

        9:15 ¶ Now the LORD 3068 had told 1540 8804z Samuel 8050 in 854x his ear 241 a 259 day 3117 before 6440 Saul 7586 came, 935 8800z saying, 559 8800z

        9:16 To morrow 4279 about this time 6256 I will send 7971 8799z thee a man 376 out of the land 776 4480x of Benjamin, 1144 and thou shalt anoint 4886 8804z him [to be] captain 5057 over 5921x my people 5971 Israel, 3478 that he may save 3467 8689z 853x my people 5971 out of the hand 3027 4480x of the Philistines: 6430 for 3588x I have looked 7200y 8804z upon 7200x 853x my people, 5971 because 3588x their cry 6818 is come 935 8804z unto me. 413x

        9:17 And when Samuel 8050 saw 7200 8804z 853x Saul, 7586 the LORD 3068 said 6030 8804z unto him, Behold 2009x the man 376 whom 834x I spake 559 8804z to 413x thee of! this same 2088x shall reign 6113 8799z over my people. 5971

        9:18 Then Saul 7586 drew near 5066 8799z to 853x Samuel 8050 in 8432 the gate, 8179 and said, 559 8799z Tell 5046 8685z me, I pray thee, 4994x where 335 2088x the seer's 7200 8802z house 1004 [is].

        9:19 And Samuel 8050 answered 6030 8799z 853x Saul, 7586 and said, 559 8799z I 595x [am] the seer: 7200 8802z go up 5927 8798z before 6440 me unto the high place; 1116 for ye shall eat 398 8804z with 5973x me to day, 3117 and to morrow 1242 I will let thee go, 7971 8765z and will tell 5046 8686z thee all 3605x that 834x [is] in thine heart. 3824

        9:20 And as for thine asses 860 that were lost 6 8802z three 7969 days 3117 ago, 3117 set 7760 8799z not 408x 853x thy mind 3820 on them; for 3588x they are found. 4672 8738z And on whom 4310x [is] all 3605x the desire 2532 of Israel? 3478 [Is it] not 3808x on thee, and on all 3605x thy father's 1 house? 1004

        9:21 And Saul 7586 answered 6030 8799z and said, 559 8799z [Am] not 3808x I 595x a Benjamite, 1145 of the smallest 6996 4480x of the tribes 7626 of Israel? 3478 and my family 4940 the least 6810 of all 4480x 3605x the families 4940 of the tribe 7626 of Benjamin? 1144 wherefore 4100x then speakest 1696 8765z thou so 1697 2088x to 413x me?

        9:22 And Samuel 8050 took 3947 8799z 853x Saul 7586 and his servant, 5288 and brought 935 8686z them into the parlour, 3957 and made them sit 5414 8799z in the chiefest 7218 place 4725 among them that were bidden, 7121 8803z which 1992x [were] about thirty 7970 persons. 376

        9:23 And Samuel 8050 said 559 8799z unto the cook, 2876 Bring 5414 8798z 853x the portion 4490 which 834x I gave 5414 8804z thee, of which 834x I said 559 8804z unto 413x thee, Set 7760 8798z it by 5973x thee.

        9:24 And the cook 2876 took up 7311 8686z 853x the shoulder, 7785 and [that] which [was] upon 5921x it, and set 7760 8799z [it] before 6440 Saul. 7586 And [Samuel] said, 559 8799z Behold 2009x that which is left! 7604 8737z set 7760 8798z [it] before 6440 thee, [and] eat: 398 8798z for 3588x unto this time 4150 hath it been kept 8104 8803z for thee since I said, 559 8800z I have invited 7121 8804z the people. 5971 So Saul 7586 did eat 398 8799z with 5973x Samuel 8050 that 1931x day. 3117

        9:25 ¶ And when they were come down 3381 8799z from the high place 1116 4480x into the city, 5892 [Samuel] communed 1696 8762z with 5973x Saul 7586 upon 5921x the top of the house. 1406

        9:26 And they arose early: 7925 8686z and it came to pass 1961x about the spring 5927 8800z of the day, 7837 that Samuel 8050 called 7121 8799z 413x Saul 7586 to the top of the house, 1406 saying, 559 8800z Up, 6965 8798z that I may send thee away. 7971 8762z And Saul 7586 arose, 6965 8799z and they went out 3318 8799z both 8147 of them, he 1931x and Samuel, 8050 abroad. 2351

        9:27 [And] as they 1992x were going down 3381 8802z to the end 7097 of the city, 5892 Samuel 8050 said 559 8804z to 413x Saul, 7586 Bid 559 8798z the servant 5288 pass on 5674 8799z before 6440 us, (and he passed on,) 5674 8798z but stand 5975y 8798z thou still 5975x 859x a while, 3117 that I may shew 8085 8686z thee 853x the word 1697 of God. 430
