Chapter 11

1  Rehoboam raising an army to subdue Israel, is forbidden by Shemaiah.  5  He strengtheneth his kingdom with forts and provision.  13  The priests and Levites, and such as feared God, forsaken by Jeroboam, strengthen the kingdom of Judah.  18  The wives and children of Rehoboam.

        11:1 ¶ And when Rehoboam 7346 was come 935 8799z to Jerusalem, 3389 he gathered 6950 8686z 853x of the house 1004 of Judah 3063 and Benjamin 1144 an hundred 3967 and fourscore 8084 thousand 505 chosen 977 8803z [men], which were warriors, 6213 4421 8802z to fight 3898 8736z against 5973x Israel, 3478 that he might bring 7725 0z 853x the kingdom 4467 again 7725y 8687z to Rehoboam. 7346

        11:2 But the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 came 1961x to 413x Shemaiah 8098 the man 376 of God, 430 saying, 559 8800z

        11:3 Speak 559 8798z unto 413x Rehoboam 7346 the son 1121 of Solomon, 8010 king 4428 of Judah, 3063 and to 413x all 3605x Israel 3478 in Judah 3063 and Benjamin, 1144 saying, 559 8800z

        11:4 Thus 3541x saith 559 8804z the LORD, 3068 Ye shall not 3808x go up, 5927 8799z nor 3808x fight 3898 8735z against 5973x your brethren: 251 return 7725 8798z every man 376 to his house: 1004 for 3588x this 2088x thing 1697 is done 1961 8738z of 4480x 854x me. And they obeyed 8085 8799z 853x the words 1697 of the LORD, 3068 and returned 7725 8799z from going 3212y 8800z 4480x 1980x against 413x Jeroboam. 3379

        11:5 ¶ And Rehoboam 7346 dwelt 3427 8799z in Jerusalem, 3389 and built 1129 8799z cities 5892 for defence 4692 in Judah. 3063

        11:6 He built 1129 8799z even 853x Bethlehem, 1035 and Etam, 5862 and Tekoa, 8620

        11:7 And Bethzur, 1049 and Shoco, 7755 and Adullam, 5725

        11:8 And Gath, 1661 and Mareshah, 4762 and Ziph, 2128

        11:9 And Adoraim, 115 and Lachish, 3923 and Azekah, 5825

        11:10 And Zorah, 6881y 6681x and Aijalon, 357 and Hebron, 2275 which 834x [are] in Judah 3063 and in Benjamin 1144 fenced 4694 cities. 5892

        11:11 And he fortified 2388 8762z 853x the strong holds, 4694 and put 5414 8799z captains 5057 in them, and store 214 of victual, 3978 and of oil 8081 and wine. 3196

        11:12 And in every 3605x several city 5892 [he put] shields 6793 and spears, 7420 and made them exceeding 7235y 8687z 3966y strong, 2388 8762z 7235x 3966x having 1961x Judah 3063 and Benjamin 1144 on his side.

        11:13 ¶ And the priests 3548 and the Levites 3881 that 834x [were] in all 3605x Israel 3478 resorted 3320 8694z to 5921x him out of all 4480x 3605x their coasts. 1366

        11:14 For 3588x the Levites 3881 left 5800 8804z 853x their suburbs 4054 and their possession, 272 and came 3212y 8799z 1980x to Judah 3063 and Jerusalem: 3389 for 3588x Jeroboam 3379 and his sons 1121 had cast them off 2186 8689z from executing the priest's office 3547 8763z 4480x unto the LORD: 3068

        11:15 And he ordained 5975 8686z him priests 3548 for the high places, 1116 and for the devils, 8163 and for the calves 5695 which 834x he had made. 6213 8804z

        11:16 And after 310 them out of all 4480x 3605x the tribes 7626 of Israel 3478 such as set 5414 8802z 853x their hearts 3824 to seek 1245 8763z 853x the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478 came 935 8804z to Jerusalem, 3389 to sacrifice 2076 8800z unto the LORD 3068 God 430 of their fathers. 1

        11:17 So they strengthened 2388 8762z 853x the kingdom 4438 of Judah, 3063 and made 853x Rehoboam 7346 the son 1121 of Solomon 8010 strong, 553 8762z three 7969 years: 8141 for 3588x three 7969 years 8141 they walked 1980 8804z in the way 1870 of David 1732 and Solomon. 8010

        11:18 ¶ And Rehoboam 7346 took 3947 8799z him 853x Mahalath 4258 the daughter 1323 8675z 1121y of Jerimoth 3406 the son 1121 of David 1732 to wife, 802 [and] Abihail 32 the daughter 1323 of Eliab 446 the son 1121 of Jesse; 3448

        11:19 Which bare 3205 8799z him children; 1121 853x Jeush, 3266 and Shamariah, 8114 and Zaham. 2093

        11:20 And after 310 her he took 3947 8804z 853x Maachah 4601 the daughter 1323 of Absalom; 53 which bare 3205 8799z him 853x Abijah, 29 and Attai, 6262 and Ziza, 2124 and Shelomith. 8019

        11:21 And Rehoboam 7346 loved 157 8799z 853x Maachah 4601 the daughter 1323 of Absalom 53 above all 4480x 3605x his wives 802 and his concubines: 6370 (for 3588x he took 5375 8804z eighteen 8083 6240 wives, 802 and threescore 8346 concubines; 6370 and begat 3205 8686z twenty 6242 and eight 8083 sons, 1121 and threescore 8346 daughters.) 1323

        11:22 And Rehoboam 7346 made 5975 8686z 853x Abijah 29 the son 1121 of Maachah 4601 the chief, 7218 [to be] ruler 5057 among his brethren: 251 for 3588x [he thought] to make him king. 4427 8687z

        11:23 And he dealt wisely, 995 8799z and dispersed 6555 8799z of all 4480x 3605x his children 1121 throughout all 3605x the countries 776 of Judah 3063 and Benjamin, 1144 unto every 3605x fenced 4694 city: 5892 and he gave 5414 8799z them victual 4202 in abundance. 7230 And he desired 7592 8799z many 1995 wives. 802
