Chapter 6

1  David fetcheth the Ark from Kirjath-jearim on a new cart.  6  Uzzah is smitten at Perez-uzzah.  11  God blesseth Obed-edom for the Ark.  12  David bringeth the Ark into Zion with sacrifices, danceth before it, for which Michal despiseth him.  17  He placeth it in a tabernacle with great joy and feasting.  20  Michal reproving David for his religious joy is childless to her death.

6:1 ¶ Again, (5750) David {1732} gathered together {622} <8799> q8676- [3254] <8686> (853) all (3605) [the] chosen {977} <8803> [men] of Israel, {3478} thirty {7970} thousand. {505}

6:2 And David {1732} arose, {6965} <8799> and went [3212] <8799> (1980) with all (3605) the people {5971} that (834) [were] with (854) him from Baale (4480) (1184) of Judah, [1184] (3063) to bring up {5927} <8687> from thence (4480) (8033) (853) the ark {727} of God, {430} whose (834) name {8034} is called {7121} <8738> by the name {8034} of the LORD {3068} of hosts {6635} that dwelleth {3427} <8802> (5921) [between] the cherubims. {3742}

6:3 And they set {7392} <8686> (853) the ark {727} of God {430} upon (413) a new {2319} cart, {5699} and brought {5375} <8799> it out of the house {1004} (4480) of Abinadab {41} that (834) [was] in Gibeah: {1390} and Uzzah {5798} and Ahio, {283} the sons {1121} of Abinadab, {41} drave {5090} <8802> (853) the new {2319} cart. {5699}

6:4 And they brought {5375} <8799> it out of the house {1004} (4480) of Abinadab {41} which (834) [was] at Gibeah, {1390} accompanying {5973} the ark {727} of God: {430} and Ahio {283} went {1980} <8802> before {6440} the ark. {727}

6:5 And David {1732} and all (3605) the house {1004} of Israel {3478} played {7832} <8764> before {6440} the LORD {3068} on all (3605) manner of [instruments made of] fir {1265} wood, {6086} even on harps, {3658} and on psalteries, {5035} and on timbrels, {8596} and on cornets, {4517} and on cymbals. {6767}

6:6 ¶ And when they came {935} <8799> to (5704) Nachon's {5225} threshingfloor, {1637} Uzzah {5798} put forth {7971} <8799> [his hand] to (413) the ark {727} of God, {430} and took hold {270} <8799> of it; for (3588) the oxen {1241} shook {8058} <8804> [it].

6:7 And the anger {639} of the LORD {3068} was kindled {2734} <8799> against Uzzah; {5798} and God {430} smote {5221} <8686> him there (8033) for (5921) [his] error; {7944} and there (8033) he died {4191} <8799> by (5973) the ark {727} of God. {430}

6:8 And David {1732} was displeased, {2734} <8799> because (5921) (834) the LORD {3068} had made {6555} <8804> a breach {6556} upon Uzzah: {5798} and he called [7121] <8799> the name (7121) of the (1931) place {4725} Perezuzzah {6560} to (5704) this (2088) day. {3117}

6:9 And David {1732} was afraid {3372} <8799> of (853) the LORD {3068} that (1931) day, {3117} and said, {559} <8799> How (349) shall the ark {727} of the LORD {3068} come {935} <8799> to (413) me?

6:10 So David {1732} would {14} <8804> not (3808) remove {5493} <8687> (853) the ark {727} of the LORD {3068} unto (413) him into (5921) the city {5892} of David: {1732} but David {1732} carried it aside {5186} <8686> into the house {1004} of Obededom {5654} the Gittite. {1663}

6:11 And the ark {727} of the LORD {3068} continued {3427} <8799> in the house {1004} of Obededom {5654} the Gittite {1663} three {7969} months: {2320} and the LORD {3068} blessed {1288} <8762> (853) Obededom, {5654} and all (3605) his household. {1004}

6:12 ¶ And it was told {5046} <8714> king {4428} David, {1732} saying, {559} <8800> The LORD {3068} hath blessed {1288} <8765> (853) the house {1004} of Obededom, {5654} and all (3605) that (834) [pertaineth] unto him, because (5668) of the ark {727} of God. {430} So David {1732} went [3212] <8799> (1980) and brought up {5927} <8686> (853) the ark {727} of God {430} from the house {1004} (4480) of Obededom {5654} into the city {5892} of David {1732} with gladness. {8057}

6:13 And it was (1961) [so], that when (3588) they that bare {5375} <8802> the ark {727} of the LORD {3068} had gone {6805} <8804> six {8337} paces, {6806} he sacrificed {2076} <8799> oxen {7794} and fatlings. {4806}

6:14 And David {1732} danced {3769} <8772> before {6440} the LORD {3068} with all (3605) [his] might; {5797} and David {1732} [was] girded {2296} <8803> with a linen {906} ephod. {646}

6:15 So David {1732} and all (3605) the house {1004} of Israel {3478} brought up {5927} <8688> (853) the ark {727} of the LORD {3068} with shouting, {8643} and with the sound {6963} of the trumpet. {7782}

6:16 And as (1961) the ark {727} of the LORD {3068} came {935} <8802> into the city {5892} of David, {1732} Michal {4324} Saul's {7586} daughter {1323} looked {8259} <8738> through (1157) a window, {2474} and saw {7200} <8799> (853) king {4428} David {1732} leaping {6339} <8764> and dancing {3769} <8772> before {6440} the LORD; {3068} and she despised {959} <8799> him in her heart. {3820}

6:17 ¶ And they brought [935] <8686> in (935) (853) the ark {727} of the LORD, {3068} and set {3322} <8686> it in his place, {4725} in the midst {8432} of the tabernacle {168} that (834) David {1732} had pitched {5186} <8804> for it: and David {1732} offered {5927} <8686> burnt offerings {5930} and peace offerings {8002} before {6440} the LORD. {3068}

6:18 And as soon as David {1732} had made an end {3615} <8762> of offering {5927} <8687> (4480) burnt offerings {5930} and peace offerings, {8002} he blessed {1288} <8762> (853) the people {5971} in the name {8034} of the LORD {3068} of hosts. {6635}

6:19 And he dealt {2505} <8762> among all (3605) the people, {5971} [even] among the whole (3605) multitude {1995} of Israel, {3478} as well to (5704) the women {802} as men, {376} (4480) to every one {376} a {259} cake {2471} of bread, {3899} and a (259) good piece {829} [of flesh], and a (259) flagon {809} [of wine]. So all (3605) the people {5971} departed [3212] <8799> (1980) every one {376} to his house. {1004}

6:20 ¶ Then David {1732} returned {7725} <8799> to bless {1288} <8763> (853) his household. {1004} And Michal {4324} the daughter {1323} of Saul {7586} came out {3318} <8799> to meet {7125} <8800> David, {1732} and said, {559} <8799> How (4100) glorious {3513} <8738> was the king {4428} of Israel {3478} to day, {3117} who (834) uncovered [1540] <8738> himself (1540) to day {3117} in the eyes {5869} of the handmaids {519} of his servants, {5650} as one {259} of the vain fellows {7386} shamelessly [1540] <8736> uncovereth [1540] <8736> himself! {1540}

6:21 And David {1732} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Michal, {4324} [It was] before {6440} the LORD, {3068} which (834) chose {977} <8804> me before thy father, {1} (4480) and before all (4480) (3605) his house, {1004} to appoint {6680} <8763> me ruler {5057} over (5921) the people {5971} of the LORD, {3068} over (5921) Israel: {3478} therefore will I play {7832} <8765> before {6440} the LORD. {3068}

6:22 And I will yet (5750) be more vile {7043} <8738> than thus, {2063} (4480) and will be (1961) base {8217} in mine own sight: {5869} and of (5973) the maidservants {519} which (834) thou hast spoken {559} <8804> of, of them shall I be had in honour. {3513} <8735>

6:23 Therefore Michal {4324} the daughter {1323} of Saul {7586} had (1961) no (3808) child {3206} [2056] k8675- unto (5704) the day {3117} of her death. {4194}
