Deuteronomy

Chapter 13

1  Enticers to idolatry,  6  how near soever unto thee,  10  are to be stoned to death.  12  Idolatrous cities are not to be spared.

13:1 ¶ If (3588) there arise {6965} <8799> among {7130} you a prophet, {5030} or (176) a dreamer {2492} <8802> of dreams, {2472} and giveth {5414} <8804> (413) thee a sign {226} or (176) a wonder, {4159}

13:2 And the sign {226} or the wonder {4159} come to pass, {935} <8804> whereof (834) he spake {1696} <8765> unto (413) thee, saying, {559} <8800> Let us go [3212] <8799> (1980) after {310} other {312} gods, {430} which (834) thou hast not (3808) known, {3045} <8804> and let us serve {5647} <8714> them;

13:3 Thou shalt not (3808) hearken {8085} <8799> unto (413) the words {1697} of that (1931) prophet, {5030} or (176) that (1931) dreamer {2492} <8802> of dreams: {2472} for (3588) the LORD {3068} your God {430} proveth {5254} <8764> you, to know {3045} <8800> whether (3426) ye [3426] love {157} <8802> (853) the LORD {3068} your God {430} with all (3605) your heart {3824} and with all (3605) your soul. {5315}

13:4 Ye shall walk [3212] <8799> (1980) after {310} the LORD {3068} your God, {430} and fear {3372} <8799> him, and keep {8104} <8799> his commandments, {4687} and obey {8085} <8799> his voice, {6963} and ye shall serve {5647} <8799> him, and cleave {1692} <8799> unto him.

13:5 And that (1931) prophet, {5030} or (176) that (1931) dreamer {2492} <8802> of dreams, {2472} shall be put to death; {4191} <8714> because (3588) he hath spoken {1696} <8765> to turn [5627] [you] away (5627) from (5921) the LORD {3068} your God, {430} which brought you out {3318} <8688> (853) of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} and redeemed {6299} <8802> you out of the house {1004} (4480) of bondage, {5650} to thrust {5080} <8687> thee out of (4480) the way {1870} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} commanded {6680} <8765> thee to walk (1980) in. [3212] <8800> So shalt thou put [1197] <0> the evil [7451] away {1197} <8765> (7451) from the midst {7130} (4480) of thee.

13:6 ¶ If (3588) thy brother, {251} the son [1121] (121) of thy mother, {517} or (176) thy son, {1121} or (176) thy daughter, {1323} or (176) the wife {802} of thy bosom, {2436} or (176) thy friend, {7453} which (834) [is] as thine own soul, {5315} entice {5496} <8686> thee secretly, {5643} saying, {559} <8800> Let us go [3212] <8799> (1980) and serve {5647} <8799> other {312} gods, {430} which (834) thou hast not (3808) known, {3045} <8804> thou, (859) nor thy fathers; {1}

13:7 [Namely], of the gods {430} (4480) of the people {5971} which (834) [are] round about {5439} you, nigh {7138} unto (413) thee, or (176) far off {7350} from (4480) thee, from the [one] end {7097} (4480) of the earth {776} even unto (5704) the [other] end {7097} of the earth; {776}

13:8 Thou shalt not (3808) consent {14} <8799> unto him, nor (3808) hearken {8085} <8799> unto (413) him; neither (3808) shall thine eye {5869} pity {2347} <8799> (5921) him, neither (3808) shalt thou spare, {2550} <8799> neither (3808) shalt thou conceal {3680} <8762> (5921) him:

13:9 But (3588) thou shalt surely [2026] <8800> kill {2026} <8799> him; thine hand {3027} shall be (1961) first {7223} upon him to put him to death, {4191} <8687> and afterwards {314} the hand {3027} of all (3605) the people. {5971}

13:10 And thou shalt stone {5619} <8804> him with stones, {68} that he die; {4191} <8804> because (3588) he hath sought {1245} <8765> to thrust thee away {5080} <8687> from (4480) (5921) the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} which brought thee out {3318} <8688> of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} from the house {1004} (4480) of bondage. {5650}

13:11 And all (3605) Israel {3478} shall hear, {8085} <8799> and fear, {3372} <8799> and shall do {6213} <8800> no (3808) more {3254} <8686> any {1697} such wickedness {7451} as this (2088) is among {7130} you.

13:12 ¶ If (3588) thou shalt hear {8085} <8799> [say] in one {259} of thy cities, {5892} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath given {5414} <8802> thee to dwell {3427} <8800> there, (8033) saying, {559} <8800>

13:13 [Certain] men, [582] (376) the children {1121} of Belial, {1100} are gone out {3318} <8804> from among {7130} (4480) you, and have withdrawn {5080} <8686> (853) the inhabitants {3427} <8802> of their city, {5892} saying, {559} <8800> Let us go [3212] <8799> (1980) and serve {5647} <8799> other {312} gods, {430} which (834) ye have not (3808) known; {3045} <8804>

13:14 Then shalt thou enquire, {1875} <8804> and make search, {2713} <8804> and ask {7592} <8804> diligently; {3190} <8687> and, behold, (2009) [if it be] truth, {571} [and] the thing {1697} certain, {3559} <8737> [that] such {2063} abomination {8441} is wrought {6213} <8738> among {7130} you;

13:15 Thou shalt surely [5221] <8687> smite {5221} <8686> (853) the inhabitants {3427} <8802> of that (1931) city {5892} with the edge {6310} of the sword, {2719} destroying it utterly, {2763} <8685> (853) and all (3605) that (834) [is] therein, and the cattle {929} thereof, with the edge {6310} of the sword. {2719}

13:16 And thou shalt gather {6908} <8799> all (3605) the spoil {7998} of it into (413) the midst {8432} of the street {7339} thereof, and shalt burn {8313} <8804> with fire {784} (853) the city, {5892} and all (3605) the spoil {7998} thereof every whit, {3632} for the LORD {3068} thy God: {430} and it shall be (1961) an heap {8510} for ever; {5769} it shall not (3808) be built (1129) again. 13:17 And there shall cleave {1692} <8799> nought {3972} (3808) of (4480) the cursed thing {2764} to thine hand: {3027} that (4616) the LORD {3068} may turn {7725} <8799> from the fierceness {2740} (4480) of his anger, {639} and shew {5414} <8804> thee mercy, {7356} and have compassion {7355} <8765> upon thee, and multiply {7235} <8689> thee, as (834) he hath sworn {7650} <8738> unto thy fathers; {1}

13:18 When (3588) thou shalt hearken {8085} <8799> to the voice {6963} of the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} to keep {8104} <8800> (853) all (3605) his commandments {4687} which (834) I (595) command {6680} <8764> thee this day, {3117} to do {6213} <8800> [that which is] right {3477} in the eyes {5869} of the LORD {3068} thy God. {430}
