Chapter 23

1  Who may not enter into the congregation.  9  Uncleanness to be avoided in the host.  15  Of the fugitive servant.  17  Of filthiness.  18  Of abominable sacrifices.  19  Of usury.  21  Of vows.  24  Of trespasses.

23:1 ¶ He that is wounded in the stones, {6481} {1795} <8803> or hath his privy member {8212} cut off, {3772} <8803> shall not (3808) enter {935} <8799> into the congregation {6951} of the LORD. {3068}

23:2 A bastard {4464} shall not (3808) enter {935} <8799> into the congregation {6951} of the LORD; {3068} even (1571) to his tenth {6224} generation {1755} shall he not (3808) enter {935} <8799> into the congregation {6951} of the LORD. {3068}

23:3 An Ammonite {5984} or Moabite {4125} shall not (3808) enter {935} <8799> into the congregation {6951} of the LORD; {3068} even (1571) to their tenth {6224} generation {1755} shall they not (3808) enter {935} <8799> into the congregation {6951} of the LORD {3068} for [5704] ever: {5769} (5704)

23:4 Because {1697} (5921) they (834) met {6923} <8765> you not (3808) with bread {3899} and with water {4325} in the way, {1870} when ye came forth {3318} <8800> out of Egypt; {4714} (4480) and because (834) they hired {7936} <8804> against (5921) thee (853) Balaam {1109} the son {1121} of Beor {1160} of Pethor {6604} (4480) of Mesopotamia, {763} to curse {7043} <8763> thee.

23:5 Nevertheless the LORD {3068} thy God {430} would {14} <8804> not (3808) hearken {8085} <8800> unto (413) Balaam; {1109} but the LORD {3068} thy God {430} turned {2015} <8799> (853) the curse {7045} into a blessing {1293} unto thee, because (3588) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} loved {157} <8804> thee.

23:6 Thou shalt not (3808) seek {1875} <8799> their peace {7965} nor their prosperity {2896} all (3605) thy days {3117} for ever. {5769}

23:7 ¶ Thou shalt not (3808) abhor {8581} <8762> an Edomite; {130} for (3588) he (1931) [is] thy brother: {251} thou shalt not (3808) abhor {8581} <8762> an Egyptian; {4713} because (3588) thou wast (1961) a stranger {1616} in his land. {776}

23:8 The children {1121} that (834) are begotten {3205} <8735> of them shall enter {935} <8799> into the congregation {6951} of the LORD {3068} in their third {7992} generation. {1755}

23:9 ¶ When (3588) the host {4264} goeth forth {3318} <8799> against (5921) thine enemies, {341} <8802> then keep [8104] <8738> thee (8104) from every (4480) (3605) wicked {7451} thing. {1697}

23:10 ¶ If (3588) there be (1961) among you any man, {376} that (834) is (1961) not (3808) clean {2889} by reason of uncleanness that chanceth {7137} (4480) him by night, {3915} then shall he go [3318] <8804> abroad [2351] (3318) out of (413) (4480) (2351) the camp, {4264} he shall not (3808) come {935} <8799> within {8432} (413) the camp: {4264}

23:11 But it shall be, (1961) when evening {6153} cometh on, {6437} <8800> he shall wash {7364} <8799> [himself] with water: {4325} and when the sun {8121} is down, {935} <8800> he shall come {935} <8799> into {8432} (413) the camp {4264} [again].

23:12 ¶ Thou shalt have (1961) a place (3027) also [3027] without {2351} (4480) the camp, {4264} whither (8033) thou shalt go forth {3318} <8804> abroad: {2351}

23:13 And thou shalt have (1961) a paddle {3489} upon (5921) thy weapon; {240} and it shall be, (1961) when thou wilt ease {3427} <8800> thyself abroad, {2351} thou shalt dig {2658} <8804> therewith, and shalt turn back {7725} <8804> and cover {3680} <8765> (853) that which cometh {6627} from thee:

23:14 For (3588) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} walketh {1980} <8693> in the midst {7130} of thy camp, {4264} to deliver {5337} <8687> thee, and to give up {5414} <8800> thine enemies {341} <8802> before {6440} thee; therefore shall thy camp {4264} be (1961) holy: {6918} that he see {7200} <8799> no (3808) unclean {6172} thing {1697} in thee, and turn away {7725} <8804> from (4480) (310) thee. 23:15 ¶ Thou shalt not (3808) deliver {5462} <8686> unto (413) his master {113} the servant {5650} which (834) is escaped {5337} <8735> from (4480) (5973) his master {113} unto (413) thee:

23:16 He shall dwell {3427} <8799> with (5973) thee, [even] among {7130} you, in that place {4725} which (834) he shall choose {977} <8799> in one {259} of thy gates, {8179} where it liketh him best: {2896} thou shalt not (3808) oppress {3238} <8686> him.

23:17 ¶ There shall be (1961) no (3808) whore {6948} of the daughters {1323} (4480) of Israel, {3478} nor (3808) a sodomite {6945} of the sons {1121} (4480) of Israel. {3478}

23:18 Thou shalt not (3808) bring {935} <8686> the hire {868} of a whore, {2181} <8802> or the price {4242} of a dog, {3611} into the house {1004} of the LORD {3068} thy God {430} for any (3605) vow: {5088} for (3588) even (1571) both {8147} these [are] abomination {8441} unto the LORD {3068} thy God. {430}

23:19 ¶ Thou shalt not (3808) lend upon usury {5391} <8686> to thy brother; {251} usury {5392} of money, {3701} usury {5392} of victuals, {400} usury {5392} of any (3605) thing {1697} that (834) is lent upon usury: {5391} <8799>

23:20 Unto a stranger {5237} thou mayest lend upon usury; {5391} <8686> but unto thy brother {251} thou shalt not (3808) lend upon usury: {5391} <8686> that (4616) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} may bless {1288} <8762> thee in all (3605) that thou settest {4916} thine hand {3027} to in (5921) the land {776} whither (834) (8033) thou (859) goest {935} <8802> to possess {3423} <8800> it.

23:21 ¶ When (3588) thou shalt vow {5087} <8799> a vow {5088} unto the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} thou shalt not (3808) slack {309} <8762> to pay {7999} <8763> it: for (3588) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} will surely [1875] <8800> require {1875} <8799> it of (4480) (5973) thee; and it would be (1961) sin {2399} in thee.

23:22 But if (3588) thou shalt forbear {2308} <8799> to vow, {5087} <8800> it shall be (1961) no (3808) sin {2399} in thee.

23:23 That which is gone out {4161} of thy lips {8193} thou shalt keep {8104} <8799> and perform; {6213} <8804> [even] a freewill offering, {5071} according as (834) thou hast vowed {5087} <8804> unto the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} which (834) thou hast promised {1696} <8765> with thy mouth. {6310}

23:24 ¶ When (3588) thou comest {935} <8799> into thy neighbour's {7453} vineyard, {3754} then thou mayest eat {398} <8804> grapes {6025} thy fill {7648} at thine own pleasure; {5315} but thou shalt not (3808) put {5414} <8799> [any] in (413) thy vessel. {3627}

23:25 When (3588) thou comest {935} <8799> into the standing corn {7054} of thy neighbour, {7453} then thou mayest pluck {6998} <8804> the ears {4425} with thine hand; {3027} but thou shalt not (3808) move {5130} <8686> a sickle {2770} unto (5921) thy neighbour's {7453} standing corn. {7054}
