Chapter 5

1  The Covenant in Horeb.  6  The Ten Commandments.  22  At the people's request Moses receiveth the Law from God.

5:1 ¶ And Moses {4872} called {7121} <8799> (413) all (3605) Israel, {3478} and said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, Hear, {8085} <8798> O Israel, {3478} (853) the statutes {2706} and judgments {4941} which (834) I (595) speak {1696} <8802> in your ears {241} this day, {3117} that ye may learn {3925} <8804> them, and keep, {8104} <8804> and do {6213} <8800> them.

5:2 The LORD {3068} our God {430} made {3772} <8804> a covenant {1285} with (5973) us in Horeb. {2722}

5:3 The LORD {3068} made {3772} <8804> not (3808) (853) this (2063) covenant {1285} with (854) our fathers, {1} but (3588) with (854) us, [587] [even] us, (587) who (428) [are] all (3605) of us [428] here (6311) alive {2416} this day. {3117}

5:4 The LORD {3068} talked {1696} <8765> with (5973) you face [6440] to face {6440} in the mount {2022} out of the midst {8432} (4480) of the fire, {784}

5:5 (I (595) stood {5975} <8802> between (996) the LORD {3068} and you at that (1931) time, {6256} to shew {5046} <8687> you (853) the word {1697} of the LORD: {3068} for (3588) ye were afraid {3372} <8804> by reason [6440] of (4480) (6440) the fire, {784} and went not up {5927} <8804> (3808) into the mount;) {2022} saying, {559} <8800>

5:6 ¶ I (595) [am] the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} which (834) brought (3318) thee out [3318] <8689> of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} from the house {1004} (4480) of bondage. {5650}

5:7 Thou shalt have (1961) none (3808) other {312} gods {430} before {6440} (5921) me.

5:8 Thou shalt not (3808) make {6213} <8799> thee [any] graven image, {6459} [or] any (3605) likeness {8544} [of any thing] that (834) [is] in heaven {8064} above, {4605} (4480) or that (834) [is] in the earth {776} beneath, (4480) (8478) or that (834) [is] in the waters {4325} beneath (4480) (8478) the earth: {776}

5:9 Thou shalt not (3808) bow down [7812] <8691> thyself (7812) unto them, nor (3808) serve {5647} <8714> them: for (3588) I (595) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} [am] a jealous {7067} God, {410} visiting {6485} <8802> the iniquity {5771} of the fathers {1} upon (5921) the children {1121} unto (5921) the third {8029} and fourth {7256} [generation] of them that hate {8130} <8802> me,

5:10 And shewing {6213} <8802> mercy {2617} unto thousands {505} of them that love {157} <8802> me and keep {8104} <8802> my commandments. {4687}

5:11 Thou shalt not (3808) take {5375} <8799> (853) the name {8034} of the LORD {3068} thy God {430} in vain: {7723} for (3588) the LORD {3068} will not (3808) hold [him] guiltless {5352} <8762> (853) that (834) taketh {5375} <8799> (853) his name {8034} in vain. {7723}

5:12 Keep {8104} <8800> (853) the sabbath {7676} day {3117} to sanctify {6942} <8763> it, as (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath commanded {6680} <8765> thee.

5:13 Six {8337} days {3117} thou shalt labour, {5647} <8799> and do {6213} <8804> all (3605) thy work: {4399}

5:14 But the seventh {7637} day {3117} [is] the sabbath {7676} of the LORD {3068} thy God: {430} [in it] thou shalt not (3808) do {6213} <8799> any (3605) work, {4399} thou, (859) nor thy son, {1121} nor thy daughter, {1323} nor thy manservant, {5650} nor thy maidservant, {519} nor thine ox, {7794} nor thine ass, {2543} nor any (3605) of thy cattle, {929} nor thy stranger {1616} that (834) [is] within thy gates; {8179} that (4616) thy manservant {5650} and thy maidservant {519} may rest {5117} <8799> as well as thou.

5:15 And remember {2142} <8804> that (3588) thou wast (1961) a servant {5650} in the land {776} of Egypt, {4714} and [that] the LORD {3068} thy God {430} brought [3318] <8686> thee out (3318) thence (4480) (8033) through a mighty {2389} hand {3027} and by a stretched out {5186} <8803> arm: {2220} therefore (5921) (3651) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} commanded {6680} <8765> thee to keep {6213} <8800> (853) the sabbath {7676} day. {3117}

5:16 ¶ Honour {3513} <8761> (853) thy father {1} and thy mother, {517} as (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath commanded {6680} <8765> thee; that (4416) thy days {3117} may be prolonged, {748} <8686> and that (4616) it may go well {3190} <8799> with thee, in (5921) the land {127} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} giveth {5414} <8802> thee.

5:17 Thou shalt not (3808) kill. {7523} <8799>

5:18 Neither (3808) shalt thou commit adultery. {5003} <8799>

5:19 Neither (3808) shalt thou steal. {1589} <8799>

5:20 Neither (3808) shalt thou bear {6030} <8799> false {7723} witness {5707} against thy neighbour. {7453}

5:21 Neither (3808) shalt thou desire {2530} <8799> thy neighbour's {7453} wife, {802} neither (3808) shalt thou covet {183} <8691> thy neighbour's {7453} house, {1004} his field, {7704} or his manservant, {5650} or his maidservant, {519} his ox, {7794} or his ass, {2543} or any (3605) [thing] that (834) [is] thy neighbour's. {7453}

5:22 ¶ (853) These (428) words {1697} the LORD {3068} spake {1696} <8765> unto (413) all (3605) your assembly {6951} in the mount {2022} out of the midst {8432} (4480) of the fire, {784} of the cloud, {6051} and of the thick darkness, {6205} with a great {1419} voice: {6963} and he added no more. {3254} <8804> (3808) And he wrote {3789} <8799> them in (5921) two {8147} tables {3871} of stone, {68} and delivered {5414} <8799> them unto (413) me.

5:23 And it came to pass, (1961) when ye heard {8085} <8800> (853) the voice {6963} out of the midst {8432} (4480) of the darkness, {2822} (for the mountain {2022} did burn {1197} <8802> with fire,) {784} that ye came near {7126} <8799> unto (413) me, [even] all (3605) the heads {7218} of your tribes, {7626} and your elders; {2205}

5:24 And ye said, {559} <8799> Behold, (2005) the LORD {3068} our God {430} hath shewed {7200} <8689> us (853) his glory {3519} and his greatness, {1433} and we have heard {8085} <8804> his voice {6963} out of the midst {8432} (4480) of the fire: {784} we have seen {7200} <8804> this (2088) day {3117} that (3588) God {430} doth talk {1696} <8762> with (854) man, {120} and he liveth. {2425} <8804>

5:25 Now (6258) therefore why (4100) should we die? {4191} <8799> for (3588) this (2063) great {1419} fire {784} will consume {398} <8799> us: if (518) we (587) hear {8085} <8800> (853) the voice {6963} of the LORD {3068} our God {430} any more, {3254} <8802> (5750) then we shall die. {4191} <8804>

5:26 For (3588) who (4310) [is there of] all (3605) flesh, {1320} that (834) hath heard {8085} <8804> the voice {6963} of the living {2416} God {430} speaking {1696} <8764> out of the midst {8432} (4480) of the fire, {784} as we (3644) [have], and lived? {2421} <8799>

5:27 Go thou near, {7126} <8798> (859) and hear {8085} <8798> (853) all (3605) that (834) the LORD {3068} our God {430} shall say: {559} <8799> and speak {1696} <8762> thou (859) unto (413) us (853) all (3605) that (834) the LORD {3068} our God {430} shall speak {1696} <8762> unto (413) thee; and we will hear {8085} <8804> [it], and do {6213} <8804> [it].

5:28 And the LORD {3068} heard {8085} <8799> (853) the voice {6963} of your words, {1697} when ye spake {1696} <8763> unto (413) me; and the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) me, I have heard {8085} <8804> (853) the voice {6963} of the words {1697} of this (2088) people, {5971} which (834) they have spoken {1696} <8765> unto (413) thee: they have well [3190] <8689> said (3190) all (3605) that (834) they have spoken. {1696} <8765>

5:29 O that (4310) (5414) there were (1961) such {2088} an [4310] heart {3824} in them, [5414] <8799> that they would fear {3372} <8800> me, and keep {8104} <8800> (853) all (3605) my commandments {4687} always, {3117} (3605) that (4616) it might be well {3190} <8799> with them, and with their children {1121} for ever! {5769}

5:30 Go [3212] <8798> (1980) say {559} <8798> to them, Get {7725} <0> you into your tents {168} again. [7725] <8798>

5:31 But as for thee, (859) stand {5975} <8798> thou here (6311) by (5978) me, [5978] and I will speak {1696} <8762> unto (413) thee (853) all (3605) the commandments, {4687} and the statutes, {2706} and the judgments, {4941} which (834) thou shalt teach {3925} <8762> them, that they may do {6213} <8804> [them] in the land {776} which (834) I (595) give {5414} <8802> them to possess {3423} <8800> it.

5:32 Ye shall observe {8104} <8804> to do {6213} <8800> therefore as (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} hath commanded {6680} <8765> you: ye shall not (3808) turn aside {5493} <8799> to the right hand {3225} or to the left. {8040}

5:33 Ye shall walk [3212] <8799> (1980) in all (3605) the ways {1870} which (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} hath commanded {6680} <8765> you, that (4616) ye may live, {2421} <8799> and [that it may be] well {2895} <8804> with you, and [that] ye may prolong {748} <8689> [your] days {3117} in the land {776} which (834) ye shall possess. {3423} <8799>
