Deuteronomy

Chapter 12

1  Monuments of idolatry are to be destroyed.  5  The place of God's service is to be kept.  16, 23  Blood is forbidden.  17, 20, 26  Holy things must be eaten in the holy place.  19  The Levite is not to be forsaken.  29  Idolatry is not to be enquired after.

12:1 ¶ These (428) [are] the statutes {2706} and judgments, {4941} which (834) ye shall observe {8104} <8799> to do {6213} <8800> in the land, {776} which (834) the LORD {3068} God {430} of thy fathers {1} giveth {5414} <8804> thee to possess {3423} <8800> it, all (3605) the days {3117} that (834) ye (859) live {2416} upon (5921) the earth. {127}

12:2 Ye shall utterly {6} <8763> destroy {6} <8762> (853) all (3605) the places, {4725} wherein (834) (8033) the nations {1471} which {834} (853) ye (859) shall possess {3423} <8802> served {5647} <8804> (853) their gods, {430} upon (5921) the high {7311} <8802> mountains, {2022} and upon (5921) the hills, {1389} and under (8478) every (3605) green {7488} tree: {6086}

12:3 And ye shall overthrow {5422} <8765> (853) their altars, {4196} and break {7665} <8765> (853) their pillars, {4676} and burn {8313} <8799> their groves {842} with fire; {784} and ye shall hew down {1438} <8762> the graven images {6456} of their gods, {430} and destroy {6} <8765> (853) the names {8034} of them out of (4480) that (1931) place. {4725}

12:4 Ye shall not (3808) do (6213) so [6213] <8799> (3651) unto the LORD {3068} your God. {430}

12:5 But (3588) (518) unto (413) the place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} shall choose {977} <8799> out of all (4480) (3605) your tribes {7626} to put {7760} <8800> (853) his name {8034} there, (8033) [even] unto his habitation {7933} shall ye seek, {1875} <8799> and thither (8033) thou shalt come: {935} <8804>

12:6 And thither (8033) ye shall bring {935} <8689> your burnt offerings, {5930} and your sacrifices, {2077} and your tithes, {4643} and (853) heave offerings {8641} of your hand, {3027} and your vows, {5088} and your freewill offerings, {5071} and the firstlings {1062} of your herds {1241} and of your flocks: {6629}

12:7 And there (8033) ye shall eat {398} <8804> before {6440} the LORD {3068} your God, {430} and ye shall rejoice {8055} <8804> in all (3605) that ye put {4916} your hand {3027} unto, ye (859) and your households, {1004} wherein (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath blessed {1288} <8765> thee.

12:8 Ye shall not (3808) do {6213} <8799> after all (3605) [the things] that (834) we (587) do {6213} <8802> here (6311) this day, {3117} every man {376} whatsoever (3605) [is] right {3477} in his own eyes. {5869}

12:9 For (3588) ye are not (3808) as yet (5704) (6258) come {935} <8804> to (413) the rest {4496} and to (413) the inheritance, {5159} which (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} giveth {5414} <8802> you.

12:10 But [when] ye go over {5674} <8804> (853) Jordan, {3383} and dwell {3427} <8804> in the land {776} which (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} giveth you to inherit, {5157} <8688> (853) and [when] he giveth you rest {5117} <8689> from all (4480) (3605) your enemies {341} <8802> round about, {5439} (4480) so that ye dwell {3427} <8804> in safety; {983}

12:11 Then there shall be (1961) a place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} shall choose {977} <8799> to cause his name {8034} to dwell {7931} <8763> there; (8033) thither (8033) shall ye bring {935} <8686> (853) all (3605) that (834) I (595) command {6680} <8764> you; your burnt offerings, {5930} and your sacrifices, {2077} your tithes, {4643} and the heave offering {8641} of your hand, {3027} and all (3605) your choice {4005} vows {5088} which (834) ye vow {5087} <8799> unto the LORD: {3068}

12:12 And ye shall rejoice {8055} <8804> before {6440} the LORD {3068} your God, {430} ye, (859) and your sons, {1121} and your daughters, {1323} and your menservants, {5650} and your maidservants, {519} and the Levite {3881} that (834) [is] within your gates; {8179} forasmuch {3588} as he hath no (369) part {2506} nor inheritance {5159} with (854) you.

12:13 Take heed {8104} <8734> to thyself that (6435) thou offer {5927} <8686> not thy burnt offerings {5930} in every (3605) place {4725} that (834) thou seest: {7200} <8799>

12:14 But (3588) (518) in the place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} shall choose {977} <8799> in one {259} of thy tribes, {7626} there (8033) thou shalt offer {5927} <8686> thy burnt offerings, {5930} and there (8033) thou shalt do {6213} <8799> all (3605) that (834) I (595) command {6680} <8764> thee.

12:15 Notwithstanding (7535) thou mayest kill {2076} <8799> and eat {398} <8804> flesh {1320} in all (3605) thy gates, {8179} whatsoever (3605) thy soul {5315} lusteth after, {185} according to the blessing {1293} of the LORD {3068} thy God {430} which (834) he hath given {5414} <8804> thee: the unclean {2931} and the clean {2889} may eat {398} <8799> thereof, as of the roebuck, {6643} and as of the hart. {354}

12:16 Only (7535) ye shall not (3808) eat {398} <8799> the blood; {1818} ye shall pour {8210} <8799> it upon (5921) the earth {776} as water. {4325}

12:17 ¶ Thou mayest {3201} <8799> not (3808) eat {398} <8800> within thy gates {8179} the tithe {4643} of thy corn, {1715} or of thy wine, {8492} or of thy oil, {3323} or the firstlings {1062} of thy herds {1241} or of thy flock, {6629} nor any (3605) of thy vows {5088} which (834) thou vowest, {5087} <8799> nor thy freewill offerings, {5071} or heave offering {8641} of thine hand: {3027}

12:18 But (3588) (518) thou must eat {398} <8799> them before {6440} the LORD {3068} thy God {430} in the place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} shall choose, {977} <8799> thou, (859) and thy son, {1121} and thy daughter, {1323} and thy manservant, {5650} and thy maidservant, {519} and the Levite {3881} that (834) [is] within thy gates: {8179} and thou shalt rejoice {8055} <8804> before {6440} the LORD {3068} thy God {430} in all (3605) that thou puttest {4916} thine hands {3027} unto.

12:19 Take heed {8104} <8734> to thyself that thou forsake [5800] <8799> not (6435) (5800) (853) the Levite {3881} as long as thou livest {3117} (3605) upon (5921) the earth. {127}

12:20 ¶ When (3588) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} shall enlarge {7337} <8686> (853) thy border, {1366} as (834) he hath promised {1696} <8765> thee, and thou shalt say, {559} <8804> I will eat {398} <8799> flesh, {1320} because (3588) thy soul {5315} longeth {183} <8762> to eat {398} <8800> flesh; {1320} thou mayest eat {398} <8799> flesh, {1320} whatsoever (3605) thy soul {5315} lusteth after. {185}

12:21 If (3588) the place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath chosen {977} <8799> to put {7760} <8800> his name {8034} there (8033) be too far {7368} <8799> from (4480) thee, then thou shalt kill {2076} <8804> of thy herd {1241} (4480) and of thy flock, {6629} (4480) which (834) the LORD {3068} hath given {5414} <8804> thee, as (834) I have commanded {6680} <8765> thee, and thou shalt eat {398} <8804> in thy gates {8179} whatsoever (3605) thy soul {5315} lusteth after. {185}

12:22 Even (389) as (834) (853) the roebuck {6643} and the hart {354} is eaten, {398} <8735> so (3651) thou shalt eat {398} <8799> them: the unclean {2931} and the clean {2889} shall eat {398} <8799> [of] them alike. {3162}

12:23 Only (7535) be sure {2388} <8798> that thou eat {398} <8800> not (1115) the blood: {1818} for (3588) the blood {1818} [is] the life; {5315} and thou mayest not (3808) eat {398} <8799> the life {5315} with (5973) the flesh. {1320}

12:24 Thou shalt not (3808) eat {398} <8799> it; thou shalt pour {8210} <8799> it upon (5921) the earth {776} as water. {4325}

12:25 Thou shalt not (3808) eat {398} <8799> it; that (4616) it may go well {3190} <8799> with thee, and with thy children {1121} after {310} thee, when (3588) thou shalt do {6213} <8799> [that which is] right {3477} in the sight {5869} of the LORD. {3068}

12:26 Only (7535) thy holy things {6944} which (834) thou hast, (1961) and thy vows, {5088} thou shalt take, {5375} <8799> and go {935} <8804> unto (413) the place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} shall choose: {977} <8799>

12:27 And thou shalt offer {6213} <8804> thy burnt offerings, {5930} the flesh {1320} and the blood, {1818} upon (5921) the altar {4196} of the LORD {3068} thy God: {430} and the blood {1818} of thy sacrifices {2077} shall be poured out {8210} <8735> upon (5921) the altar {4196} of the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} and thou shalt eat {398} <8799> the flesh. {1320}

12:28 Observe {8104} <8798> and hear {8085} <8804> (853) all (3605) these (428) words {1697} which (834) I (595) command {6680} <8764> thee, that (4616) it may go well {3190} <8799> with thee, and with thy children {1121} after {310} thee for [5704] ever, {5769} (5704) when (3588) thou doest {6213} <8799> [that which is] good {2896} and right {3477} in the sight {5869} of the LORD {3068} thy God. {430}

12:29 ¶ When (3588) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} shall cut off {3772} <8686> (853) the nations {1471} from before {6440} (4480) thee, whither (834) (8033) thou (859) goest {935} <8802> to possess {3423} <8800> them, and thou succeedest {3423} <8804> them, and dwellest {3427} <8804> in their land; {776}

12:30 Take heed {8104} <8734> to thyself that (6435) thou be not snared {5367} <8735> by following {310} them, after [310] that (310) they be destroyed {8045} <8736> from before {6440} (4480) thee; and that (6435) thou enquire {1875} <8799> not after their gods, {430} saying, {559} <8800> How (349) did these (428) nations {1471} serve {5647} <8799> (853) their gods? {430} even so (3651) will I (589) do {6213} <8799> likewise. {1571}

12:31 Thou shalt not (3808) do {6213} <8799> so (3651) unto the LORD {3068} thy God: {430} for (3588) every (3605) abomination {8441} to the LORD, {3068} which (834) he hateth, {8130} <8804> have they done {6213} <8804> unto their gods; {430} for (3588) even (1571) (853) their sons {1121} and their daughters {1323} they have burnt {8313} <8799> in the fire {784} to their gods. {430}

12:32 (853) What thing [1697] soever (3605) (1697) (834) I (595) command {6680} <8764> you, observe {8104} <8799> to do {6213} <8800> it: thou shalt not (3808) add {3254} <8686> thereto, (5921) nor (3808) diminish {1639} <8799> from (4480) it.
