Deuteronomy

Chapter 14

1  God's children are not to disfigure themselves in mourning.  3  What may, and what may not be eaten,  4  of beasts,  9  of fishes,  11  of fowls.  21  That which dieth of itself may not be eaten.  22  Tithes of divine service.  23  Tithes and firstlings of rejoicing before the LORD.  28  The third year's tithe of alms and charity.

14:1 ¶ Ye (859) [are] the children {1121} of the LORD {3068} your God: {430} ye shall not (3808) cut [1413] <8704> yourselves, (1413) nor (3808) make {7760} <8799> any baldness {7144} between (996) your eyes {5869} for the dead. {4191} <8801>

14:2 For (3588) thou (859) [art] an holy {6918} people {5971} unto the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} and the LORD {3068} hath chosen {977} <8804> thee to be (1961) a peculiar {5459} people {5971} unto himself, above all (4480) (3605) the nations {5971} that (834) [are] upon {6440} (5921) the earth. {127}

14:3 ¶ Thou shalt not (3808) eat {398} <8799> any (3605) abominable thing. {8441}

14:4 These (2063) [are] the beasts {929} which (834) ye shall eat: {398} <8799> the ox, {7794} the sheep, {7716} {3775} and the goat, {5795} (7716)

14:5 The hart, {354} and the roebuck, {6643} and the fallow deer, {3180} and the wild goat, {689} and the pygarg, {1788} and the wild ox, {8377} and the chamois. {2169}

14:6 And every (3605) beast {929} that parteth {6536} <8688> the hoof, {6541} and cleaveth [8157] (8156) the cleft [8156] <8802> (8157) into two {8147} claws, {6541} [and] cheweth {5927} <8688> the cud {1625} among the beasts, {929} that ye shall eat. {398} <8799>

14:7 Nevertheless (389) (853) these (2088) ye shall not (3808) eat {398} <8799> of them that chew {5927} <8688> (4480) the cud, {1625} or of them that divide {6536} <8688> (4480) the cloven {8156} <8803> hoof; {6541} [as] (853) the camel, {1581} and the hare, {768} and the coney: {8227} for (3588) they (1992) chew {5927} <8688> the cud, {1625} but divide {6536} <8689> not (3808) the hoof; {6541} [therefore] they (1992) [are] unclean {2931} unto you.

14:8 And the swine, {2386} because (3588) it (1931) divideth {6536} <8688> the hoof, {6541} yet cheweth not (3808) the cud, {1625} it (1931) [is] unclean {2931} unto you: ye shall not (3808) eat {398} <8799> of their flesh, {1320} (4480) nor (3808) touch {5060} <8799> their dead carcase. {5038}

14:9 ¶ (853) These (2088) ye shall eat {398} <8799> of all (4480) (3605) that (834) [are] in the waters: {4325} all (3605) that (834) have fins {5579} and scales {7193} shall ye eat: {398} <8799>

14:10 And whatsoever (3605) (834) hath not (369) fins {5579} and scales {7193} ye may not (3808) eat; {398} <8799> it (1931) [is] unclean {2931} unto you.

14:11 ¶ [Of] all (3605) clean {2889} birds {6833} ye shall eat. {398} <8799>

14:12 But these (2088) [are they] of which (834) ye shall not (3808) eat: {398} <8799> the eagle, {5404} and the ossifrage, {6538} and the ospray, {5822}

14:13 And the glede, {7201} and the kite, {344} and the vulture {1772} after his kind, {4327}

14:14 And every (3605) raven {6158} after his kind, {4327}

14:15 And the owl, {1323} {3284} and the night hawk, {8464} and the cuckow, {7828} and the hawk {5322} after his kind, {4327}

14:16 (853) The little owl, {3563} and the great owl, {3244} and the swan, {8580}

14:17 And the pelican, {6893} and the gier eagle, {7360} and the cormorant, {7994}

14:18 And the stork, {2624} and the heron {601} after her kind, {4327} and the lapwing, {1744} and the bat. {5847}

14:19 And every (3605) creeping thing {8318} that flieth {5775} [is] unclean {2931} unto you: they shall not (3808) be eaten. {398} <8735>

14:20 [But of] all (3605) clean {2889} fowls {5775} ye may eat. {398} <8799>

14:21 ¶ Ye shall not (3808) eat {398} <8799> [of] any (3605) thing that dieth of itself: {5038} thou shalt give {5414} <8799> it unto the stranger {1616} that (834) [is] in thy gates, {8179} that he may eat {398} <8804> it; or (176) thou mayest sell {4376} <8800> it unto an alien: {5237} for (3588) thou (859) [art] an holy {6918} people {5971} unto the LORD {3068} thy God. {430} Thou shalt not (3808) seethe {1310} <8762> a kid {1423} in his mother's {517} milk. {2461}

14:22 Thou shalt truly [6237] <8763> tithe {6237} <8762> (853) all (3605) the increase {8393} of thy seed, {2233} that the field {7704} bringeth forth {3318} <8802> year {8141} by year. {8141}

14:23 And thou shalt eat {398} <8804> before {6440} the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} in the place {4725} which (834) he shall choose {977} <8799> to place {7931} <8763> his name {8034} there, (8033) the tithe {4643} of thy corn, {1715} of thy wine, {8492} and of thine oil, {3323} and the firstlings {1062} of thy herds {1241} and of thy flocks; {6629} that (4616) thou mayest learn {3925} <8799> to fear {3372} <8800> (853) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} always. {3117} (3605)

14:24 And if (3588) the way {1870} be too long {7235} <8799> for (4480) thee, so that {3588} thou art not able {3201} <8799> (3808) to carry {5375} <8800> it; [or] if (3588) the place {4725} be too far {7368} <8799> from (4480) thee, which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} shall choose {977} <8799> to set {7760} <8800> his name {8034} there, (8033) when (3588) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath blessed {1288} <8762> thee:

14:25 Then shalt thou turn {5414} <8804> [it] into money, {3701} and bind up {6696} <8804> the money {3701} in thine hand, {3027} and shalt go {1980} <8804> unto (413) the place {4725} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} shall choose: {977} <8799>

14:26 And thou shalt bestow {5414} <8804> that money {3701} for whatsoever (3605) (834) thy soul {5315} lusteth after, {183} <8762> for oxen, {1241} or for sheep, {6629} or for wine, {3196} or for strong drink, {7941} or for whatsoever (3605) (834) thy soul {5315} desireth: {7592} <8799> and thou shalt eat {398} <8804> there (8033) before {6440} the LORD {3068} thy God, {430} and thou shalt rejoice, {8055} <8804> thou, (859) and thine household, {1004}

14:27 And the Levite {3881} that (834) [is] within thy gates; {8179} thou shalt not (3808) forsake {5800} <8799> him; for (3588) he hath no (369) part {2506} nor inheritance {5159} with (5973) thee.

14:28 ¶ At the end {7097} (4480) of three {7969} years {8141} thou shalt bring forth {3318} <8686> (853) all (3605) the tithe {4643} of thine increase {8393} the same (1931) year, {8141} and shalt lay [it] up [3240] <8689> (5117) within thy gates: {8179}

14:29 And the Levite, {3881} (because (3588) he hath no (369) part {2506} nor inheritance {5159} with (5973) thee,) and the stranger, {1616} and the fatherless, {3490} and the widow, {490} which (834) [are] within thy gates, {8179} shall come, {935} <8804> and shall eat {398} <8804> and be satisfied; {7646} <8804> that (4616) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} may bless {1288} <8762> thee in all (3605) the work {4639} of thine hand {3027} which (834) thou doest. {6213} <8799>
