Deuteronomy

Chapter 25

1  Stripes must not exceed forty.  4  The ox is not to be muzzled.  5  Of raising seed unto a brother.  11  Of the immodest woman.  13  Of unjust weights.  17  The memory of Amalek is to be blotted out.

25:1 ¶ If (3588) there be (1961) a controversy {7379} between (996) men, [582] (376) and they come {5066} <8738> unto (413) judgment, {4941} that [the judges] may judge {8199} <8804> them; then they shall justify {6663} <8689> (853) the righteous, {6662} and condemn {7561} <8689> (853) the wicked. {7563}

25:2 And it shall be, (1961) if (518) the wicked (7563) man [7563] [be] worthy [1121] to be beaten, {5221} <8687> (1121) that the judge {8199} <8802> shall cause him to lie down, {5307} <8689> and to be beaten {5221} <8689> before his face, {6440} according [1767] to (1767) his fault, {7564} by a certain number. {4557}

25:3 Forty {705} stripes [5221] <8686> he may give (5221) him, [and] not (3808) exceed: {3254} <8686> lest, (6435) [if] he should exceed, {3254} <8686> and beat {5221} <8687> him above (5921) these (428) with many {7227} stripes, {4347} then thy brother {251} should seem vile {7034} <8738> [5869] unto (5869) thee.

25:4 ¶ Thou shalt not (3808) muzzle {2629} <8799> the ox {7794} when he treadeth out [1778] <8800> (1758) [the corn].

25:5 ¶ If (3588) brethren {251} dwell {3427} <8799> together, {3162} and one {259} of (4480) them die, {4191} <8804> and have no (369) child, {1121} the wife {802} of the dead {4191} <8801> shall not (3808) marry (1961) without {2351} unto a stranger: {376} {2114} <8801> her husband's brother {2993} shall go in {935} <8799> unto (5921) her, and take {3947} <8804> her to him to wife, {802} and perform the duty of an husband's brother {2992} <8762> unto her.

25:6 And it shall be, (1961) [that] the firstborn {1060} which (834) she beareth {3205} <8799> shall succeed {6965} <8799> in (5921) the name {8034} of his brother {251} [which is] dead, {4191} <8801> that his name {8034} be not (3808) put out {4229} <8735> of Israel. {3478} (4480)

25:7 And if (518) the man {376} like {2654} <8799> not (3808) to take {3947} <8800> (853) his brother's wife, {2994} then let his brother's wife {2994} go up {5927} <8804> to the gate {8179} unto (413) the elders, {2205} and say, {559} <8804> My husband's brother {2993} refuseth {3985} <8765> to raise up {6965} <8687> unto his brother {251} a name {8034} in Israel, {3478} he will {14} <8804> not (3808) perform the duty of my husband's brother. {2992} <8763>

25:8 Then the elders {2205} of his city {5892} shall call {7121} <8804> him, and speak {1696} <8765> unto (413) him: and [if] he stand {5975} <8804> [to it], and say, {559} <8804> I like {2654} <8804> not (3808) to take {3947} <8800> her;

25:9 Then shall his brother's wife {2994} come {5066} <8738> unto (413) him in the presence {5869} of the elders, {2205} and loose {2502} <8804> his shoe {5275} from off (4480) (5921) his foot, {7272} and spit {3417} <8804> in his face, {6440} and shall answer {6030} <8804> and say, {559} <8804> So (3602) shall it be done {6213} <8735> unto that man {376} that (834) will not (3808) build up {1129} <8799> (853) his brother's {251} house. {1004}

25:10 And his name {8034} shall be called {7121} <8738> in Israel, {3478} The house {1004} of him that hath his shoe {5275} loosed. {2502} <8803>

25:11 ¶ When (3588) men [582] (376) strive {5327} <8735> together {3162} one (376) with another, {251} [376] and the wife {802} of the one {259} draweth near {7126} <8804> for to deliver {5337} <8687> (853) her husband {376} out of the hand {3027} (4480) of him that smiteth {5221} <8688> him, and putteth forth {7971} <8804> her hand, {3027} and taketh {2388} <8689> him by the secrets: {4016}

25:12 Then thou shalt cut off {7112} <8804> (853) her hand, {3709} thine eye {5869} shall not (3808) pity {2347} <8799> [her].

25:13 ¶ Thou shalt not (3808) have (1961) in thy bag {3599} divers weights, {68} a great {1419} and a small. {6996}

25:14 Thou shalt not (3808) have (1961) in thine house {1004} divers measures, {374} a great {1419} and a small. {6996}

25:15 [But] thou shalt have (1961) a perfect {8003} and just {6664} weight, {68} a perfect {8003} and just {6664} measure {374} shalt thou have: (1961) that (4616) thy days {3117} may be lengthened {748} <8686> in (5921) the land {127} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} giveth {5414} <8802> thee.

25:16 For (3588) all (3605) that do {6213} <8802> such things, {428} [and] all (3605) that do {6213} <8802> unrighteously, {5766} [are] an abomination {8441} unto the LORD {3068} thy God. {430}

25:17 ¶ Remember {2142} <8800> (853) what (834) Amalek {6002} did {6213} <8804> unto thee by the way, {1870} when ye were come forth {3318} <8800> out of Egypt; {4714} (4480)

25:18 How (834) he met {7136} <8804> thee by the way, {1870} and smote the hindmost {2179} <8762> of thee, [even] all (3605) [that were] feeble {2826} <8737> behind {310} thee, when thou (859) [wast] faint {5889} and weary; {3023} and he feared [3373] (3372) not (3808) God. {430}

25:19 Therefore it shall be, (1961) when the LORD {3068} thy God {430} hath given thee rest {5117} <8687> from all (4480) (3605) thine enemies {341} <8802> round about, {5439} (4480) in the land {776} which (834) the LORD {3068} thy God {430} giveth {5414} <8802> thee [for] an inheritance {5159} to possess {3423} <8800> it, [that] thou shalt blot out {4229} <8799> (853) the remembrance {2143} of Amalek {6002} from under (4480) (8478) heaven; {8064} thou shalt not (3808) forget {7911} <8799> [it].
