Chapter 3

1  The story of the conquest of Og king of Bashan.  11  The bigness of his bed.  12  The distribution of those lands to the two tribes and half.  23  Moses' prayer to enter into the land.  26  He is permitted to see it.

3:1 ¶ Then we turned, {6437} <8799> and went up {5927} <8799> the way {1870} to Bashan: {1316} and Og {5747} the king {4428} of Bashan {1316} came out {3318} <8799> against {7125} <8800> us, he (1931) and all (3605) his people, {5971} to battle {4421} at Edrei. {154}

3:2 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) me, Fear {3372} <8799> him not: (408) for (3588) I will deliver {5414} <8804> him, and all (3605) his people, {5971} and his land, {776} into thy hand; {3027} and thou shalt do {6213} <8804> unto him as (834) thou didst {6213} <8804> unto Sihon {5511} king {4428} of the Amorites, {567} which (834) dwelt {3427} <8802> at Heshbon. {2809}

3:3 So the LORD {3068} our God {430} delivered {5414} <8799> into our hands {3027} (853) Og {5747} also, (1571) the king {4428} of Bashan, {1316} and all (3605) his people: {5971} and we smote {5221} <8686> him until (5704) none (1115) was left {7604} <8689> to him remaining. {8300}

3:4 And we took {3920} <8799> (853) all (3605) his cities {5892} at that (1931) time, {6256} there was (1961) not (3808) a city {7151} which (834) we took {3947} <8804> not (3808) from (4480) (854) them, threescore {8346} cities, {5892} all (3605) the region {2256} of Argob, {709} the kingdom {4467} of Og {5747} in Bashan. {1316}

3:5 All (3605) these (428) cities {5892} [were] fenced {1219} <8803> with high {1364} walls, {2346} gates, {1817} and bars; {1280} beside (905) unwalled {6521} towns {5892} (4480) a great {3966} many. {7235} <8687>

3:6 And we utterly destroyed {2763} <8686> them, as (834) we did {6213} <8804> unto Sihon {5511} king {4428} of Heshbon, {2809} utterly destroying {2763} <8687> the men, {4962} women, {802} and children, {2945} of every (3605) city. {5892}

3:7 But all (3605) the cattle, {929} and the spoil {7998} of the cities, {5892} we took for a prey {962} <8804> to ourselves.

3:8 And we took {3947} <0> at that (1931) time {6256} out [3947] <8799> of the hand {3027} (4480) of the two {8147} kings {4428} of the Amorites {567} (853) the land {776} that (834) [was] on this side {5676} Jordan, {3383} from the river {5158} (4480) of Arnon {769} unto (5704) mount {2022} Hermon; {2768}

3:9 ([Which] Hermon {2768} the Sidonians {6722} call {7121} <8799> Sirion; {8303} and the Amorites {567} call {7121} <8799> it Shenir;) {8149}

3:10 All (3605) the cities {5892} of the plain, {4334} and all (3605) Gilead, {1568} and all (3605) Bashan, {1316} unto (5704) Salchah {5548} and Edrei, {154} cities {5892} of the kingdom {4467} of Og {5747} in Bashan. {1316}

3:11 For (3588) only (7535) Og {5747} king {4428} of Bashan {1316} remained {7604} <8738> of the remnant {3499} (4480) of giants; {7497} behold, (2009) his bedstead {6210} [was] a bedstead {6210} of iron; {1270} [is] it (1931) not {3808} in Rabbath {7237} of the children {1121} of Ammon? {5983} nine {8672} cubits {520} [was] the length {753} thereof, and four {702} cubits {520} the breadth {7341} of it, after the cubit {520} of a man. {376}

3:12 And this (2063) land, {776} [which] we possessed {3423} <8804> at that (1931) time, {6256} from Aroer, {6177} (4480) which (834) [is] by (5921) the river {5158} Arnon, {769} and half {2677} mount {2022} Gilead, {1568} and the cities {5892} thereof, gave {5414} <8804> I unto the Reubenites {7206} and to the Gadites. {1425}

3:13 And the rest {3499} of Gilead, {1568} and all (3605) Bashan, {1316} [being] the kingdom {4467} of Og, {5747} gave {5414} <8804> I unto the half {2677} tribe {7626} of Manasseh; {4519} all (3605) the region {2256} of Argob, {709} with all (3605) Bashan, {1316} which {1931} was called {7121} <8735> the land {776} of giants. {7497}

3:14 Jair {2971} the son {1121} of Manasseh {4519} took {3947} <8804> (853) all (3605) the country {2256} of Argob {709} unto (5704) the coasts {1366} of Geshuri {1651} and Maachathi; {4602} and called {7121} <8799> them after (5921) his own name, {8034} (853) Bashanhavothjair, {1316} {2334} unto (5704) this (2088) day. {3117}

3:15 And I gave {5414} <8804> (853) Gilead {1568} unto Machir. {4353}

3:16 And unto the Reubenites {7206} and unto the Gadites {1425} I gave {5414} <8804> from (4480) Gilead {1568} even unto (5704) the river {5158} Arnon {769} half {8432} the valley, {5158} and the border {1366} even unto (5704) the river {5158} Jabbok, {2999} [which is] the border {1366} of the children {1121} of Ammon; {5983}

3:17 The plain {6160} also, and Jordan, {3383} and the coast {1366} [thereof], from Chinnereth {3672} (4480) even unto (5704) the sea {3220} of the plain, {6160} [even] the salt {4417} sea, {3220} under (8478) Ashdothpisgah {798} q8676- [794] (6449) eastward. {4217}

3:18 ¶ And I commanded {6680} <8762> you at that (1931) time, {6256} saying, {559} <8800> The LORD {3068} your God {430} hath given {5414} <8804> you (853) this (2063) land {776} to possess {3423} <8800> it: ye shall pass over {5674} <8799> armed {2502} <8803> before {6440} your brethren {251} the children {1121} of Israel, {3478} all (3605) [that are] meet [1121] for the war. 3:19 But (7535) your wives, {802} and your little ones, {2945} and your cattle, {4735} ([for] I know {3045} <8804> that (3588) ye have much {7227} cattle,) {4735} shall abide {3427} <8799> in your cities {5892} which (834) I have given {5414} <8804> you;

3:20 Until (5704) (834) the LORD {3068} have given rest {5117} <8686> unto your brethren, {251} as well as unto you, and [until] they (1992) also (1571) possess {3423} <8804> (853) the land {776} which (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} hath given {5414} <8802> them beyond {5676} Jordan: {3383} and [then] shall ye return {7725} <8804> every man {376} unto his possession, {3425} which (834) I have given {5414} <8804> you.

3:21 ¶ And I commanded {6680} <8765> Joshua {3091} at that (1931) time, {6256} saying, {559} <8800> Thine eyes {5869} have seen {7200} <8802> (853) all (3605) that (834) the LORD {3068} your God {430} hath done {6213} <8804> unto these (428) two {8147} kings: {4428} so (3651) shall the LORD {3068} do {6213} <8799> unto all (3605) the kingdoms {4467} whither (834) (8033) thou (859) passest. {5674} <8802>

3:22 Ye shall not (3808) fear {3372} <8799> them: for (3588) the LORD {3068} your God {430} he (1931) shall fight {3898} <8737> for you.

3:23 And I besought {2603} <8691> (413) the LORD {3068} at that (1931) time, {6256} saying, {559} <8800>

3:24 O Lord {136} GOD, {3069} thou (859) hast begun {2490} <8689> to shew {7200} <8687> (853) thy servant {5650} (853) thy greatness, {1433} and thy mighty {2389} hand: {3027} for (834) what (4310) God {410} [is there] in heaven {8064} or in earth, {776} that (834) can do {6213} <8799> according to thy works, {4639} and according to thy might? {1369}

3:25 I pray thee, (4994) let me go over, {5674} <8799> and see {7200} <8799> (853) the good {2896} land {776} that (834) [is] beyond {5676} Jordan, {3383} that (2088) goodly {2896} mountain, {2022} and Lebanon. {3844}

3:26 But the LORD {3068} was wroth {5674} <8691> with me for your sakes, (4616) and would not (3808) hear {8085} <8804> (413) me: and the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) me, Let it suffice {7227} thee; speak {1696} <8763> no (408) more {3254} <8686> (5750) unto (413) me of this (2088) matter. {1697}

3:27 Get thee up {5927} <8798> into the top {7218} of Pisgah, {6449} and lift up {5375} <8798> thine eyes {5869} westward, {3220} and northward, {6828} and southward, {8486} and eastward, {4217} and behold {7200} <8798> [it] with thine eyes: {5869} for (3588) thou shalt not (3808) go over {5674} <8799> (853) this (2088) Jordan. {3383}

3:28 But charge {6680} <8761> (853) Joshua, {3091} and encourage {2388} <8761> him, and strengthen {553} <8761> him: for (3588) he (1931) shall go over {5674} <8799> before {6440} this (2088) people, {5971} and he (1931) shall cause them to inherit {5157} <8686> (853) the land {776} which (834) thou shalt see. {7200} <8799>

3:29 So we abode {3427} <8799> in the valley {1516} over against {4136} Bethpeor. {1047}
