Charles < < Chapter XXIII / Chapter 23 > > Laurence

XXIII. THE FIRE THAT DEALS WITH THE LUMINARIES OF HEAVEN.

XXIII

1,2From thence I went to another place to the west of the ends of the earth. And I saw a burning 3fire which ran without resting, and paused not from its course day or night but [ran] regularly. And 4I asked saying: 'What is this which rests not?' Then Raguel, one of the holy angels who was with me, answered me and said unto me: 'This course of fire which thou hast seen is the fire in the west which persecutes all the luminaries of heaven.'

23

23:1 From there I went to another place, towards the west, unto the extremities of the earth.

23:2 Where I beheld a fire blazing and running along without cessation, which intermitted its course neither by day nor by night; but continued always the same.

23:3 I inquired, saying, What is this, which never ceases?

23:4 Then Raguel, one of the holy angels who were with me, answered,

23:5 And said, This blazing fire, which you behold running towards the west, is [that of] all the luminaries of heaven.
