Chapter 16

1  The Israelites come to Sin.  2  They murmur for want of bread.  4  God promiseth them bread from heaven.  11  Quails are sent,  14  and manna.  16  The ordering of manna.  25  It was not to be found on the Sabbath.  32  An omer of it is preserved.

16:1 ¶ And they took their journey {5265} <8799> from Elim, {362} (4480) and all (3605) the congregation {5712} of the children {1121} of Israel {3478} came {935} <8799> unto (413) the wilderness {4057} of Sin, {5512} which (834) [is] between (996) Elim {362} and Sinai, {5514} on the fifteenth {6240} [2568] (2508) day {3117} of the second {8145} month {2320} after their departing out {3318} <8800> of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt. {4714}

16:2 And the whole (3605) congregation {5712} of the children {1121} of Israel {3478} murmured {3885} <8735> against (5921) Moses {4872} and Aaron {175} in the wilderness: {4057}

16:3 And the children {1121} of Israel {3478} said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, Would to God {4310} {5414} <8799> we had died {4191} <8800> by the hand {3027} of the LORD {3068} in the land {776} of Egypt, {4714} when we sat {3427} <8800> by (5921) the flesh {1320} pots, {5518} [and] when we did eat {398} <8800> bread {3899} to the full; {7648} for (3588) ye have brought us forth {3318} <8689> (853) into (413) this (2088) wilderness, {4057} to kill {4191} <8687> (853) this (2088) whole (3605) assembly {6951} with hunger. {7458}

16:4 ¶ Then said {559} <8799> the LORD {3068} unto (413) Moses, {4872} Behold, (2009) I will rain {4305} <8688> bread {3899} from (4480) heaven {8064} for you; and the people {5971} shall go out {3318} <8804> and gather {3950} <8804> a certain rate [1697] every day, {3117} (1697) that (4616) I may prove {5254} <8762> them, whether they will walk [3212] <8799> (1980) in my law, {8451} or (518) no. (3808)

16:5 And it shall come to pass, (1961) that on the sixth {8345} day {3117} they shall prepare {3559} <8689> (853) [that] which {834} they bring in; {935} <8686> and it shall be (1961) twice {4932} as much as (5921) (834) they gather {3950} <8799> daily. {3117}

16:6 And Moses {4872} and Aaron {175} said {559} <8799> unto (413) all (3605) the children {1121} of Israel, {3478} At even, {6153} then ye shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) the LORD {3068} hath brought you out {3318} <8689> (853) from the land {776} (4480) of Egypt: {4714}

16:7 And in the morning, {1242} then ye shall see {7200} <8804> (853) the glory {3519} of the LORD; {3068} for that he heareth {8085} <8800> (853) your murmurings {8519} against (5921) the LORD: {3068} and what (4100) [are] we, {5168} that (3588) ye murmur {3885} <8686> k8675- <8735> against (5921) us?

16:8 And Moses {4872} said, {559} <8799> [This shall be], when the LORD {3068} shall give {5414} <8800> you in the evening {6153} flesh {1320} to eat, {398} <8800> and in the morning {1242} bread {3899} to the full; {7646} <8800> for that the LORD {3068} heareth {8085} <8800> (853) your murmurings {8519} which (834) ye (859) murmur {3885} <8688> against (5921) him: and what (4100) [are] we? {5168} your murmurings {8519} [are] not (3808) against (5921) us, but (3588) against (5921) the LORD. {3068}

16:9 ¶ And Moses {4872} spake {559} <8799> unto (413) Aaron, {175} Say {559} <8798> unto (413) all (3605) the congregation {5712} of the children {1121} of Israel, {3478} Come near {7126} <8798> before {6440} the LORD: {3068} for (3588) he hath heard {8085} <8804> (853) your murmurings. {8519}

16:10 And it came to pass, (1961) as Aaron {175} spake {1696} <8763> unto (413) the whole (3605) congregation {5712} of the children {1121} of Israel, {3478} that they looked {6437} <8799> toward (413) the wilderness, {4057} and, behold, (2009) the glory {3519} of the LORD {3068} appeared {7200} <8738> in the cloud. {6051}

16:11 ¶ And the LORD {3068} spake {1696} <8762> unto (413) Moses, {4872} saying, {559} <8800>

16:12 I have heard {8085} <8804> (853) the murmurings {8519} of the children {1121} of Israel: {3478} speak {1696} <8761> unto (413) them, saying, {559} <8800> At (996) even {6153} [996] ye shall eat {398} <8799> flesh, {1320} and in the morning {1242} ye shall be filled {7646} <8799> with bread; {3899} and ye shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} your God. {430}

16:13 And it came to pass, (1961) that at even {6153} the quails {7958} came up, {5927} <8799> and covered {3680} <8762> (853) the camp: {4264} and in the morning {1242} the dew {2919} lay {7902} (1961) round about {5439} the host. {4264}

16:14 And when the dew {2919} that lay {7902} was gone up, {5927} <8799> behold, (2009) upon (5921) the face {6440} of the wilderness {4057} [there lay] a small {1851} round thing, {2636} <8794> [as] small {1851} as the hoar frost {3713} on (5921) the ground. {776}

16:15 And when the children {1121} of Israel {3478} saw {7200} <8799> [it], they said {559} <8799> one {376} to (413) another, {251} It (1931) [is] manna: {4478} for (3588) they wist {3045} <8804> not (3808) what (4100) it (1931) [was]. And Moses {4872} said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, This (1931) [is] the bread {3899} which (834) the LORD {3068} hath given {5414} <8804> you to eat. {402}

16:16 ¶ This (2088) [is] the thing {1697} which {834} the LORD {3068} hath commanded, {6680} <8765> Gather {3950} <8798> of (4480) it every man {376} according [6310] to (6310) his eating, {400} an omer {6016} for every man, {1538} [according to] the number {4557} of your persons; {5315} take {3947} <8799> ye every man {376} for [them] which (834) [are] in his tents. {168}

16:17 And the children {1121} of Israel {3478} did {6213} <8799> so, (3651) and gathered, {3950} <8799> some more, {7235} <8688> some less. {4591} <8688>

16:18 And when they did mete {4058} <8799> [it] with an omer, {6016} he that gathered much {7235} <8688> had nothing over, {5736} <8689> (3808) and he that gathered little {4591} <8688> had no (3808) lack; {2637} <8689> they gathered {3950} <8804> every man {376} according [6310] to (6310) his eating. {400}

16:19 And Moses {4872} said, {559} <8799> Let no (408) man {376} leave {3498} <8686> of (4480) it till (5704) the morning. {1242}

16:20 Notwithstanding they hearkened {8085} <8804> not (3808) unto (413) Moses; {4872} but some [582] (376) of them left {3498} <8686> of (4480) it until (5704) the morning, {1242} and it bred {7311} <8799> worms, {8438} and stank: {887} <8799> and Moses {4872} was wroth {7107} <8799> with (5921) them.

16:21 And they gathered {3950} <8799> it every morning, {1242} every man {376} according [6310] to (6310) his eating: {400} and when the sun {8121} waxed hot, {2552} <8804> it melted. {4549} <8738>

16:22 ¶ And it came to pass, (1961) [that] on the sixth {8345} day {3117} they gathered {3950} <8804> twice [4932] as much (4932) bread, {3899} two {8147} omers {6016} for one {259} [man]: and all (3605) the rulers {5387} of the congregation {5712} came {935} <8799> and told {5046} <8686> Moses. {4872}

16:23 And he said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, This (1931) [is that] which (834) the LORD {3068} hath said, {1696} <8765> To morrow {4279} [is] the rest {7677} of the holy {6944} sabbath {7676} unto the LORD: {3068} bake {644} <8798> [that] (853) which (834) ye will bake {644} <8799> [to day], and seethe {1310} <8761> that (834) ye will seethe; {1310} <8762> and that which {3605} remaineth over {5736} <8802> lay up [3240] <8685> (5117) for you to be kept {4931} until (5704) the morning. {1242}

16:24 And they laid it up [3240] <8686> (5117) (853) till (5704) the morning, {1242} as (834) Moses {4872} bade: {6680} <8765> and it did not (3808) stink, {887} <8689> neither (3808) was (1961) there any worm {7415} therein.

16:25 And Moses {4872} said, {559} <8799> Eat {398} <8798> that to day; {3117} for (3588) to day {3117} [is] a sabbath {7676} unto the LORD: {3068} to day {3117} ye shall not (3808) find {4672} <8799> it in the field. {7704}

16:26 Six {8337} days {3117} ye shall gather {3950} <8799> it; but on the seventh {7637} day, {3117} [which is] the sabbath, {7676} in it there shall be (1961) none. (3808)

16:27 ¶ And it came to pass, (1961) [that] there went out {3318} <8804> [some] of (4480) the people {5971} on the seventh {7637} day {3117} for to gather, {3950} <8800> and they found {4672} <8804> none. (3808)

16:28 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} How long (5704) (575) refuse {3985} <8765> ye to keep {8104} <8800> my commandments {4687} and my laws? {8451}

16:29 See, {7200} <8798> for (3588) that the LORD {3068} hath given {5414} <8804> you the sabbath, {7676} therefore (5921) (3651) he (1931) giveth {5414} <8802> you on the sixth {8345} day {3117} the bread {3899} of two days; {3117} abide {3427} <8798> ye every man {376} in his place, (8478) let no (408) man {376} go out {3318} <8799> of his place {4725} (4480) on the seventh {7637} day. {3117}

16:30 So the people {5971} rested {7673} <8799> on the seventh {7637} day. {3117}

16:31 And the house {1004} of Israel {3478} called {7121} <8799> (853) the name {8034} thereof Manna: {4478} and it (1931) [was] like coriander {1407} seed, {2233} white; {3836} and the taste {2940} of it [was] like wafers {6838} [made] with honey. {1706}

16:32 ¶ And Moses {4872} said, {559} <8799> This (2088) [is] the thing {1697} which (834) the LORD {3068} commandeth, {6680} <8765> Fill {4393} an omer {6016} of (4480) it to be kept {4931} for your generations; {1755} that (4616) they may see {7200} <8799> (853) the bread {3899} wherewith (834) I have fed {398} <8689> you in the wilderness, {4057} when I brought you forth {3318} <8687> (853) from the land {776} (4480) of Egypt. {4714}

16:33 And Moses {4872} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Aaron, {175} Take {3947} <8798> a {259} pot, {6803} and put {5414} <8798> an omer {6016} full {4393} of manna {4478} therein, (8033) and lay it up [3240] <8685> (5117) (853) before {6440} the LORD, {3068} to be kept {4931} for your generations. {1755}

16:34 As (834) the LORD {3068} commanded {6680} <8765> (413) Moses, {4872} so Aaron {175} laid it up [3240] <8686> (5117) before {6440} the Testimony, {5715} to be kept. {4931}

16:35 And the children {1121} of Israel {3478} did eat {398} <8804> (853) manna {4478} forty {705} years, {8141} until (5704) they came {935} <8800> to (413) a land {776} inhabited; {3427} <8737> they did eat {398} <8804> (853) manna, {4478} until (5704) they came {935} <8800> unto (413) the borders {7097} of the land {776} of Canaan. {3667}

16:36 Now an omer {6016} [is] the tenth {6224} [part] of an ephah. {374}
