Chapter 19

1  The people come to Sinai.  3  God's message by Moses unto the people out of the mount.  8  The people's answer returned again.  10  The people are prepared against the third day.  12  The mountain must not be touched.  16  The fearful presence of God upon the mount.

19:1 ¶ In the third {7992} month, {2320} when the children {1121} of Israel {3478} were gone forth {3318} <8800> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} the same (2088) day {3117} came {935} <8804> they [into] the wilderness {4057} of Sinai. {5514}

19:2 For they were departed {5265} <8799> from Rephidim, {7508} (4480) and were come {935} <8799> [to] the desert {4057} of Sinai, {5514} and had pitched {2583} <8799> in the wilderness; {4057} and there (8033) Israel {3478} camped {2583} <8799> before (5048) the mount. {2022}

19:3 And Moses {4872} went up {5927} <8804> unto (413) God, {430} and the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8799> unto (413) him out of (4480) the mountain, {2022} saying, {559} <8800> Thus (3541) shalt thou say {559} <8799> to the house {1004} of Jacob, {3290} and tell {5046} <8686> the children {1121} of Israel; {3478}

19:4 Ye (859) have seen {7200} <8804> what (834) I did {6213} <8804> unto the Egyptians, {4714} and [how] I bare {5375} <8799> you on (5921) eagles' {5404} wings, {3671} and brought {935} <8686> you unto (413) myself.

19:5 Now (6258) therefore, if (518) ye will obey [8085] <8799> my voice [6963] indeed, {8085} <8800> (6963) and keep {8104} <8804> (853) my covenant, {1285} then ye shall be (1961) a peculiar treasure {5459} unto me above all (4480) (3605) people: {5971} for (3588) all (3605) the earth {776} [is] mine:

19:6 And ye (859) shall be (1961) unto me a kingdom {4467} of priests, {3548} and an holy {6918} nation. {1471} These (428) [are] the words {1697} which (834) thou shalt speak {1696} <8762> unto (413) the children {1121} of Israel. {3478}

19:7 ¶ And Moses {4872} came {935} <8799> and called {7121} <8799> for the elders {2205} of the people, {5971} and laid {7760} <8799> before their faces {6440} (853) all (3605) these (428) words {1697} which (834) the LORD {3068} commanded {6680} <8765> him.

19:8 And all (3605) the people {5971} answered {6030} <8799> together, {3162} and said, {559} <8799> All (3605) that (834) the LORD {3068} hath spoken {1696} <8765> we will do. {6213} <8799> And Moses {4872} returned {7725} <8686> (853) the words {1697} of the people {5971} unto (413) the LORD. {3068}

19:9 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Lo, (2009) I (595) come {935} <8802> unto (413) thee in a thick {5645} cloud, {6051} that (5668) the people {5971} may hear {8085} <8799> when I speak {1696} <8763> with (5973) thee, and believe {539} <8686> thee for ever. {5769} And Moses {4872} told {5046} <8686> (853) the words {1697} of the people {5971} unto (413) the LORD. {3068}

19:10 ¶ And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Go [3212] <8798> (1980) unto (413) the people, {5971} and sanctify {6942} <8765> them to day {3117} and to morrow, {4279} and let them wash {3526} <8765> their clothes, {8071}

19:11 And be (1961) ready {3559} <8737> against the third {7992} day: {3117} for (3588) the third {7992} day {3117} the LORD {3068} will come down {3381} <8799> in the sight {5869} of all (3605) the people {5971} upon (5921) mount {2022} Sinai. {5514}

19:12 And thou shalt set bounds {1379} <8689> (853) unto the people {5971} round about, {5439} saying, {559} <8800> Take heed {8104} <8734> to yourselves, [that ye] go [not] up {5927} <8800> into the mount, {2022} or touch {5060} <8800> the border {7097} of it: whosoever (3605) toucheth {5060} <8802> the mount {2022} shall be surely [4191] <8800> put to death: {4191} <8714>

19:13 There shall not (3808) an hand {3027} touch {5060} <8799> it, but (3588) he shall surely [5619] <8800> be stoned, {5619} <8735> or {176} shot [3384] <8735> through; {3384} <8800> whether (518) [it be] beast {929} or {518} man, {376} it shall not (3808) live: {2421} <8799> when the trumpet {3104} soundeth long, {4900} <8800> they (1992) shall come up {5927} <8799> to the mount. {2022}

19:14 ¶ And Moses {4872} went down {3381} <8799> from (4480) the mount {2022} unto (413) the people, {5971} and sanctified {6942} <8762> (853) the people; {5971} and they washed {3526} <8762> their clothes. {8071}

19:15 And he said {559} <8799> unto (413) the people, {5971} Be {1961} <8798> ready {3559} <8737> against the third {7969} day: {3117} come {5066} <8799> not (408) at (413) [your] wives. {802}

19:16 ¶ And it came to pass (1961) on the third {7992} day {3117} in the morning, {1242} that there were (1961) thunders {6963} and lightnings, {1300} and a thick {3515} cloud {6051} upon (5921) the mount, {2022} and the voice {6963} of the trumpet {7782} exceeding {3966} loud; {2389} so that all (3605) the people {5971} that (834) [was] in the camp {4264} trembled. {2729} <8799>

19:17 And Moses {4872} brought forth {3318} <8686> (853) the people {5971} out of (4480) the camp {4264} to meet {7125} <8800> with God; {430} and they stood {3320} <8691> at the nether [8482] part (8482) of the mount. {2022}

19:18 And mount {2022} Sinai {5514} was altogether (3605) on a smoke, {6225} <8804> because {6440} {834} (4480) the LORD {3068} descended {3381} <8804> upon (5921) it in fire: {784} and the smoke {6227} thereof ascended {5927} <8799> as the smoke {6227} of a furnace, {3536} and the whole (3605) mount {2022} quaked {2729} <8799> greatly. {3966}

19:19 And when (1961) the voice {6963} of the trumpet {7782} sounded [6963] long, {1980} <8802> and waxed louder [2390] and louder, {3966} (2388) Moses {4872} spake, {1696} <8762> and God {430} answered {6030} <8799> him by a voice. {6963}

19:20 And the LORD {3068} came down {3381} <8799> upon (5921) mount {2022} Sinai, {5514} on (413) the top {7218} of the mount: {2022} and the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8799> Moses {4872} [up] to {413} the top {7218} of the mount; {2022} and Moses {4872} went up. {5927} <8799>

19:21 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Go down, {3381} <8798> charge {5749} <8685> the people, {5971} lest (6435) they break through {2040} <8799> unto (413) the LORD {3068} to gaze, {7200} <8800> and many {7227} of (4480) them perish. {5307} <8804>

19:22 And let the priests {3548} also, (1571) which come near {5066} <8737> to (413) the LORD, {3068} sanctify [6942] <8691> themselves, (6942) lest (6435) the LORD {3068} break forth {6555} <8799> upon them.

19:23 And Moses {4872} said {559} <8799> unto (413) the LORD, {3068} The people {5971} cannot {3201} <8799> (3808) come up {5927} <8800> to (413) mount {2022} Sinai: {5514} for (3588) thou (859) chargedst {5749} <8689> us, saying, {559} <8800> Set bounds {1379} <8685> (853) about the mount, {2022} and sanctify {6942} <8765> it.

19:24 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, Away, [3212] <8798> (1980) get thee down, {3381} <8798> and thou shalt come up, {5927} <8804> thou, (859) and Aaron {175} with (5973) thee: but let not (408) the priests {3548} and the people {5971} break through {2040} <8799> to come up {5927} <8800> unto (413) the LORD, {3068} lest (6435) he break forth {6555} <8799> upon them.

19:25 So Moses {4872} went down {3381} <8799> unto (413) the people, {5971} and spake {559} <8799> unto (413) them.
