Chapter 33

1  The LORD refuseth to go as he had promised with the people.  4  The people murmur thereat.  7  The Tabernacle is removed out of the camp.  9  The LORD talketh familiarly with Moses.  12  Moses desireth to see the glory of God.

33:1 ¶ And the LORD {3068} said {1696} <8762> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Depart, [3212] <8798> (1980) [and] go up {5927} <8798> hence, (4480) (2088) thou (859) and the people {5971} which (834) thou hast brought up {5927} <8689> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} unto (413) the land {776} which (834) I sware {7650} <8738> unto Abraham, {85} to Isaac, {3327} and to Jacob, {3290} saying, {559} <8800> Unto thy seed {2233} will I give {5414} <8799> it:

33:2 And I will send {7971} <8804> an angel {4397} before {6440} thee; and I will drive out {1644} <8765> (853) the Canaanite, {3669} the Amorite, {567} and the Hittite, {2850} and the Perizzite, {6522} the Hivite, {2340} and the Jebusite: {2983}

33:3 Unto (413) a land {776} flowing {2100} <8802> with milk {2461} and honey: {1706} for (3588) I will not (3808) go up {5927} <8799> in the midst {7130} of thee; for (3588) thou (859) [art] a stiffnecked {7186} {6203} people: {5971} lest (6435) I consume {3615} <8762> thee in the way. {1870}

33:4 ¶ And when the people {5971} heard {8085} <8799> (853) these (2088) evil {7451} tidings, {1697} they mourned: {56} <8691> and no (3808) man {376} did put {7896} <8804> on (5921) him his ornaments. {5716}

33:5 For the LORD {3068} had said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Say {559} <8798> unto (413) the children {1121} of Israel, {3478} Ye (859) [are] a stiffnecked {7186} {6203} people: {5971} I will come up {5927} <8799> into the midst {7130} of thee in a {259} moment, {7281} and consume {3615} <8765> thee: therefore now (6258) put off {3381} <8685> thy ornaments {5716} from (4480) (5921) thee, that I may know {3045} <8799> what (4100) to do {6213} <8799> unto thee.

33:6 And the children {1121} of Israel {3478} stripped [5337] <8691> themselves (5337) of (853) their ornaments {5716} by the mount {2022} (4480) Horeb. {2722}

33:7 And Moses {4872} took {3947} <8799> (853) the tabernacle, {168} and pitched {5186} <8804> it without {2351} (4480) the camp, {4264} afar off {7368} <8687> from (4480) the camp, {4264} and called {7121} <8804> it the Tabernacle {168} of the congregation. {4150} And it came to pass, (1961) [that] every one (3605) which sought {1245} <8764> the LORD {3068} went out {3318} <8799> unto (413) the tabernacle {168} of the congregation, {4150} which (834) [was] without {2351} (4480) the camp. {4264}

33:8 And it came to pass, (1961) when Moses {4872} went out {3318} <8800> unto (413) the tabernacle, {168} [that] all (3605) the people {5971} rose up, {6965} <8799> and stood {5324} <8738> every man {376} [at] his tent {168} door, {6607} and looked {5027} <8689> after {310} Moses, {4872} until (5704) he was gone {935} <8800> into the tabernacle. {168}

33:9 And it came to pass, (1961) as Moses {4872} entered [935] <8800> into (935) the tabernacle, {168} the cloudy {6051} pillar {5982} descended, {3381} <8799> and stood {5975} <8804> [at] the door {6607} of the tabernacle, {168} and [the LORD] talked {1696} <8765> with (5973) Moses. {4872}

33:10 And all (3605) the people {5971} saw {7200} <8804> (853) the cloudy {6051} pillar {5982} stand {5975} <8802> [at] the tabernacle {168} door: {6607} and all (3605) the people {5971} rose up {6965} <8804> and worshipped, {7812} <8694> every man {376} [in] his tent {168} door. {6607}

33:11 And the LORD {3068} spake {1696} <8765> unto (413) Moses {4872} face {6440} to (413) face, {6440} as (834) a man {376} speaketh {1696} <8762> unto (413) his friend. {7453} And he turned again {7725} <8804> into (413) the camp: {4264} but his servant {8334} <8764> Joshua, {3091} the son {1121} of Nun, {5126} a young man, {5288} departed {4185} <8686> not (3808) out [8432] of (4480) (8432) the tabernacle. {168}

33:12 ¶ And Moses {4872} said {559} <8799> unto (413) the LORD, {3068} See, {7200} <8798> thou (859) sayest {559} <8802> unto (413) me, Bring up {5927} <8685> (853) this (2088) people: {5971} and thou (859) hast not (3808) let me know {3045} <8689> (853) whom (834) thou wilt send {7971} <8799> with (5973) me. Yet thou (859) hast said, {559} <8804> I know {3045} <8804> thee by name, {8034} and thou hast also (1571) found {4672} <8804> grace {2580} in my sight. {5869}

33:13 Now (6258) therefore, I pray thee, (4994) if (518) I have found {4672} <8804> grace {2580} in thy sight, {5869} shew {3045} <8685> me now (4994) (853) thy way, {1870} that (4616) I may know {3045} <8799> thee, that I may find {4672} <8799> grace {2580} in thy sight: {5869} and consider {7200} <8798> that (3588) this (2088) nation {1471} [is] thy people. {5971}

33:14 And he said, {559} <8799> My presence {6440} shall go [3212] <8799> (1980) [with thee], and I will give thee rest. {5117} <8689>

33:15 And he said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, If (518) thy presence {6440} go {1980} <8802> not (369) [with me], carry us not up {5927} <8686> (408) hence. (4480) (2088)

33:16 For wherein (4100) shall it be known {3045} <8735> here {645} that (3588) I (589) and thy people {5971} have found {4672} <8804> grace {2580} in thy sight? {5869} [is it] not (3808) in that thou goest [3212] <8800> (1980) with (5973) us? so shall we be separated, {6395} <8738> I (589) and thy people, {5971} from all (4480) (3605) the people {5971} that (834) [are] upon (5921) the face {6440} of the earth. {127}

33:17 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} I will do {6213} <8799> (853) this (2088) thing {1697} also (1571) that (834) thou hast spoken: {1696} <8765> for (3588) thou hast found {4672} <8804> grace {2580} in my sight, {5869} and I know {3045} <8799> thee by name. {8034}

33:18 And he said, {559} <8799> I beseech thee, {4994} shew {7200} <8685> me (853) thy glory. {3519}

33:19 And he said, {559} <8799> I (589) will make all (3605) my goodness {2898} pass {5674} <8686> before (5921) (6440) thee, and I will proclaim {7121} <8804> the name {8034} of the LORD {3068} before {6440} thee; and will be gracious {2603} <8804> (853) to whom (834) I will be gracious, {2603} <8799> and will shew mercy {7355} <8765> (853) on whom (834) I will shew mercy. {7355} <8762>

33:20 And he said, {559} <8799> Thou canst {3201} <8799> not (3808) see {7200} <8800> (853) my face: {6440} for (3588) there shall no (3808) man {120} see {7200} <8799> me, and live. {2425} <8804>

33:21 And the LORD {3068} said, {559} <8799> Behold, (2009) [there is] a place {4725} by (854) me, and thou shalt stand {5324} <8738> upon (5921) a rock: {6697}

33:22 And it shall come to pass, (1961) while my glory {3519} passeth by, {5674} <8800> that I will put {7760} <8804> thee in a clift {5366} of the rock, {6697} and will cover {5526} <8804> (5921) thee with my hand {3709} while {5704} I pass by: {5674} <8800>

33:23 And I will take [5493] <8689> away (5493) (853) mine hand, {3709} and thou shalt see {7200} <8804> (853) my back parts: {268} but my face {6440} shall not (3808) be seen. {7200} <8735>
