Chapter 32

1  The people, in the absence of Moses, cause Aaron to make a calf.  7  God is angered thereby.  11  At the intreaty of Moses he is appeased.  19  He breaketh them.  20  He destroyeth the calf.  22  Aaron's excuse for himself.  25  Moses causeth the idolaters to be slain.  30  He prayeth for the people.

32:1 ¶ And when the people {5971} saw {7200} <8799> that (3588) Moses {4872} delayed {954} <8765> to come down {3381} <8800> out of (4480) the mount, {2022} the people {5971} gathered themselves together {6950} <8735> unto (5921) Aaron, {175} and said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, Up, {6965} <8798> make {6213} <8798> us gods, {430} which (834) shall go [3212] <8799> (1980) before {6440} us; for (3588) [as for] this (2088) Moses, {4872} the man {376} that (834) brought [5927] <8689> us up (5927) out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} we wot {3045} <8804> not (3808) what (4100) is become (1961) of him.

32:2 And Aaron {175} said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, Break off {6561} <8761> the golden {2091} earrings, {5141} which (834) [are] in the ears {241} of your wives, {802} of your sons, {1121} and of your daughters, {1323} and bring {935} <8685> [them] unto (413) me.

32:3 And all (3605) the people {5971} brake off {6561} <8691> (853) the golden {2091} earrings {5141} which (834) [were] in their ears, {241} and brought {935} <8686> [them] unto (413) Aaron. {175}

32:4 And he received {3947} <8799> [them] at their hand, {3027} (4480) and fashioned {6696} <8799> it with a graving tool, {2747} after he had made {6213} <8799> it a molten {4541} calf: {5695} and they said, {559} <8799> These (428) [be] thy gods, {430} O Israel, {3478} which (834) brought [5927] <8689> thee up (5927) out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt. {4714}

32:5 And when Aaron {175} saw {7200} <8799> [it], he built {1129} <8799> an altar {4196} before {6440} it; and Aaron {175} made proclamation, {7121} <8799> and said, {559} <8799> To morrow {4279} [is] a feast {2282} to the LORD. {3068}

32:6 And they rose up early {7925} <8686> on the morrow, {4283} (4480) and offered {5927} <8686> burnt offerings, {5930} and brought {5066} <8686> peace offerings; {8002} and the people {5971} sat [3427] <8799> down (3427) to eat {398} <8800> and to drink, {8354} <8800> and rose up {6965} <8799> to play. {6711} <8763>

32:7 ¶ And the LORD {3068} said {1696} <8762> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Go, [3212] <8798> (1980) get thee down; {3381} <8798> for (3588) thy people, {5971} which (834) thou broughtest {5927} <8689> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} have corrupted {7843} <8765> [themselves]:

32:8 They have turned [5493] <8804> aside (5493) quickly {4118} out of (4480) the way {1870} which (834) I commanded {6680} <8765> them: they have made {6213} <8804> them a molten {4541} calf, {5695} and have worshipped {7812} <8691> it, and have sacrificed {2076} <8799> thereunto, and said, {559} <8799> These (428) [be] thy gods, {430} O Israel, {3478} which (834) have brought thee up {5927} <8689> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt. {4714}

32:9 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} I have seen {7200} <8804> (853) this (2088) people, {5971} and, behold, (2009) it (1931) [is] a stiffnecked {7186} {6203} people: {5971}

32:10 Now (6258) therefore let me alone, [3240] <8685> (5117) that my wrath {639} may wax hot {2734} <8799> against them, and that I may consume {3615} <8762> them: and I will make {6213} <8799> of thee a great {1419} nation. {1471}

32:11 And Moses {4872} besought {2470} <8762> [6440] (853) the LORD {3068} his God, {430} and said, {559} <8799> LORD, {3068} why (4100) doth thy wrath {639} wax hot {2734} <8799> against thy people, {5971} which (834) thou hast brought forth {3318} <8689> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt {4714} with great {1419} power, {3581} and with a mighty {2389} hand? {3027}

32:12 Wherefore (4100) should the Egyptians {4714} speak, {559} <8799> and say, {559} <8800> For mischief {7451} did he bring [3318] <8689> them out, (3318) to slay {2026} <8800> them in the mountains, {2022} and to consume {3615} <8763> them from (4480) (5921) the face {6440} of the earth? {127} Turn {7725} <8798> from thy fierce [2740] wrath, {639} (4480) (2740) and repent {5162} <8734> of (5921) this evil {7451} against thy people. {5971}

32:13 Remember {2142} <8798> Abraham, {85} Isaac, {3327} and Israel, {3478} thy servants, {5650} to whom (834) thou swarest {7650} <8738> by thine own self, and saidst {1696} <8762> unto (413) them, I will multiply {7235} <8686> (853) your seed {2233} as the stars {3556} of heaven, {8064} and all (3605) this (2063) land {776} that (834) I have spoken {559} <8804> of will I give {5414} <8799> unto your seed, {2233} and they shall inherit {5157} <8804> [it] for ever. {5769}

32:14 And the LORD {3068} repented {5162} <8735> of (5921) the evil {7451} which (834) he thought {1696} <8765> to do {6213} <8800> unto his people. {5971}

32:15 ¶ And Moses {4872} turned, {6437} <8799> and went down {3381} <8799> from (4480) the mount, {2022} and the two {8147} tables {3871} of the testimony {5715} [were] in his hand: {3027} the tables {3871} [were] written {3789} <8803> on both {8147} (4480) their sides; {5676} on the one side (4480) (2088) and on the other (4480) (2088) [were] they (1992) written. {3789} <8803>

32:16 And the tables {3871} [were] the work {4639} of God, {430} and the writing {4385} [was] the writing {4385} of God, {430} graven {2801} <8803> upon (5921) the tables. {3871}

32:17 And when Joshua {3091} heard {8085} <8799> (853) the noise {6963} of the people {5971} as they shouted, {7452} he said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} [There is] a noise {6963} of war {4421} in the camp. {4264}

32:18 And he said, {559} <8799> [It is] not (369) the voice {6963} of [them that] shout {6030} <8800> for mastery, {1369} neither (369) [is it] the voice {6963} of [them that] cry {6030} <8800> for being overcome: {2476} [but] the noise {6963} of [them that] sing {6031} <8763> do I (595) hear. {8085} <8802>

32:19 ¶ And it came to pass, (1961) as soon as (834) he came nigh {7126} <8804> unto (413) the camp, {4264} that he saw {7200} <8799> (853) the calf, {5695} and the dancing: {4246} and Moses' {4872} anger {639} waxed hot, {2734} <8799> and he cast {7993} <8686> (853) the tables {3871} out of his hands, {3027} (4480) and brake {7665} <8762> them beneath {8478} the mount. {2022}

32:20 And he took {3947} <8799> (853) the calf {5695} which (834) they had made, {6213} <8804> and burnt {8313} <8799> [it] in the fire, {784} and ground {2912} <8799> [it] to (5704) powder, {1854} <8804> (834) and strawed {2219} <8799> [it] upon {6440} (5921) the water, {4325} and made (853) the children {1121} of Israel {3478} drink {8248} <8686> [of it].

32:21 And Moses {4872} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Aaron, {175} What (4100) did {6213} <8804> this (2088) people {5971} unto thee, that (3588) thou hast brought {935} <8689> so great {1419} a sin {2401} upon (5921) them?

32:22 And Aaron {175} said, {559} <8799> Let not (408) the anger {639} of my lord {113} wax hot: {2734} <8799> thou (859) knowest {3045} <8804> (853) the people, {5971} that (3588) they (1931) [are set] on mischief. {7451}

32:23 For they said {559} <8799> unto me, Make {6213} <8798> us gods, {430} which (834) shall go [3212] <8799> (1980) before {6440} us: for (3588) [as for] this (2088) Moses, {4872} the man {376} that (834) brought us up {5927} <8689> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} we wot {3045} <8804> not (3808) what (4100) is become (1961) of him.

32:24 And I said {559} <8799> unto them, Whosoever (4310) hath any gold, {2091} let them break [6561] <8690> [it] off. (6561) So they gave {5414} <8799> [it] me: then I cast {7993} <8686> it into the fire, {784} and there came out {3318} <8799> this (2088) calf. {5695}

32:25 ¶ And when Moses {4872} saw {7200} <8799> that (3588) (853) the people {5971} [were] naked; {6544} <8803> (for (3588) Aaron {175} had made them naked {6544} <8804> unto [their] shame {8103} among their enemies:) {6965} <8801>

32:26 Then Moses {4872} stood {5975} <8799> in the gate {8179} of the camp, {4264} and said, {559} <8799> Who (4310) [is] on the LORD'S {3068} side? [let him come] unto (413) me. And all (3605) the sons {1121} of Levi {3878} gathered [622] <8735> themselves together (622) unto (413) him.

32:27 And he said {559} <8799> unto them, Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the LORD {3068} God {430} of Israel, {3478} Put {7760} <8798> every man {376} his sword {2719} by (5921) his side, {3409} [and] go [5674] <8798> in (5674) and out {7725} <8798> from gate {8179} (4480) to gate {8179} throughout the camp, {4264} and slay {2026} <8798> every man {376} (853) his brother, {251} and every man {376} (853) his companion, {7453} and every man {376} (853) his neighbour. {7138}

32:28 And the children {1121} of Levi {3878} did {6213} <8799> according to the word {1697} of Moses: {4872} and there fell {5307} <8799> of (4480) the people {5971} that (1931) day {3117} about three {7969} thousand {505} men. {376}

32:29 For Moses {4872} had said, {559} <8799> Consecrate (4390) (3027) yourselves [4390] <8798> [3027] to day {3117} to the LORD, {3068} even {3588} every man {376} upon his son, {1121} and upon his brother; {251} that he may bestow {5414} <8800> upon (5921) you a blessing {1293} this day. {3117}

32:30 ¶ And it came to pass (1961) on the morrow, {4283} (4480) that Moses {4872} said {559} <8799> unto (413) the people, {5971} Ye (859) have sinned {2398} <8804> a great {1419} sin: {2401} and now (6258) I will go up {5927} <8799> unto (413) the LORD; {3068} peradventure {194} I shall make an atonement {3722} <8762> for {1157} your sin. {2403}

32:31 And Moses {4872} returned {7725} <8799> unto (413) the LORD, {3068} and said, {559} <8799> Oh, {577} this (2088) people {5971} have sinned {2398} <8804> a great {1419} sin, {2401} and have made {6213} <8799> them gods {430} of gold. {2091}

32:32 Yet now, (6258) if (518) thou wilt forgive {5375} <8799> their sin--; {2403} and if (518) not, (369) blot {4229} <8798> me, I pray thee, (4994) out of thy book {5612} (4480) which (834) thou hast written. {3789} <8804>

32:33 And the LORD {3068} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Moses, {4872} Whosoever {834} (4310) hath sinned {2398} <8804> against me, him will I blot out {4229} <8799> of my book. {5612} (4480)

32:34 Therefore now (6258) go, [3212] <8798> (1980) lead {5148} <8798> (853) the people {5971} unto (413) [the place] of which (834) I have spoken {1696} <8765> unto thee: behold, (2009) mine Angel {4397} shall go [3212] <8799> (1980) before {6440} thee: nevertheless in the day {3117} when I visit {6485} <8800> I will visit {6485} <8804> their sin {2403} upon (5921) them.

32:35 And the LORD {3068} plagued {5062} <8799> (853) the people, {5971} because {834} (5921) they made {6213} <8804> (853) the calf, {5695} which {834} Aaron {175} made. {6213} <8804>
