Ezekiel

Chapter 18

1  God reproveth the unjust parable of sour grapes.  5  He sheweth how he dealeth with a just father:  10  with a wicked son of a just father:  14  with a just son of a wicked father:  19  with a wicked man repenting:  24  with a just man revolting.  25  He defendeth his justice,  31  and exhorteth to repentance.

18:1 ¶ The word {1697} of the LORD {3068} came (1961) unto (413) me again, saying, {559} <8800>

18:2 What (4100) mean ye, that ye (859) use {4911} <8802> this (2088) (853) proverb {4912} concerning (5921) the land {127} of Israel, {3478} saying, {559} <8800> The fathers {1} have eaten {398} <8799> sour grapes, {1155} and the children's {1121} teeth {8127} are set on edge? {6949} <8799>

18:3 [As] I (589) live, {2416} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD, {3069} ye shall not (518) have (1961) [occasion] any more (5750) to use {4911} <8800> this (2088) proverb {4912} in Israel. {3478}

18:4 Behold, (2005) all (3605) souls {5315} are mine; as the soul {5315} of the father, {1} so also the soul {5315} of the son {1121} is mine: the soul {5315} that sinneth, {2398} <8802> it (1931) shall die. {4191} <8799>

18:5 ¶ But if (3588) a man {376} be (1961) just, {6662} and do {6213} <8804> that which is lawful {4941} and right, {6666}

18:6 [And] hath not (3808) eaten {398} <8804> upon (413) the mountains, {2022} neither (3808) hath lifted up {5375} <8804> his eyes {5869} to (413) the idols {1544} of the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} neither (3808) hath defiled {2930} <8765> his neighbour's {7453} wife, {802} neither (3808) hath come near {7126} <8799> to (413) a menstruous {5079} woman, {802}

18:7 And hath not (3808) oppressed {3238} <8686> any, {376} [but] hath restored {7725} <8686> to the debtor {2326} his pledge, {2258} hath spoiled {1497} <8799> none (3808) by violence, {1500} hath given {5414} <8799> his bread {3899} to the hungry, {7457} and hath covered {3680} <8762> the naked {5903} with a garment; {899}

18:8 He [that] hath not (3808) given forth {5414} <8799> upon usury, {5392} neither (3808) hath taken {3947} <8799> any increase, {8636} [that] hath withdrawn {7725} <8686> his hand {3027} from iniquity, {5766} (4480) hath executed {6213} <8799> true {571} judgment {4941} between (996) man {376} and man, {376}

18:9 Hath walked {1980} <8762> in my statutes, {2708} and hath kept {8104} <8804> my judgments, {4941} to deal {6213} <8800> truly; {571} he (1931) [is] just, {6662} he shall surely [2421] <8800> live, {2421} <8799> saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD. {3069}

18:10 ¶ If he beget {3205} <8689> a son {1121} [that is] a robber, {6530} a shedder {8210} <8802> of blood, {1818} and [that] doeth {6213} <8804> the like {251} to [any] one {259} (4480) of these (4480) (428) [things],

18:11 And that (1931) doeth {6213} <8804> not (3808) (853) any (3605) of those (428) [duties], but (3588) even (1571) hath eaten {398} <8804> upon (413) the mountains, {2022} and defiled {2930} <8765> his neighbour's {7453} wife, {802}

18:12 Hath oppressed {3238} <8689> the poor {6041} and needy, {34} hath spoiled {1497} <8804> by violence, {1500} hath not (3808) restored {7725} <8686> the pledge, {2258} and hath lifted up {5375} <8804> his eyes {5869} to (413) the idols, {1544} hath committed {6213} <8804> abomination, {8441}

18:13 Hath given forth {5414} <8804> upon usury, {5392} and hath taken {3947} <8804> increase: {8636} shall he then live? [2425] <8804> (2421) he shall not (3808) live: {2421} <8799> he hath done {6213} <8804> (853) all (3605) these (428) abominations; {8441} he shall surely [4191] <8800> die; {4191} <8714> his blood {1818} shall be (1961) upon him.

18:14 ¶ Now, lo, (2009) [if] he beget {3205} <8689> a son, {1121} that seeth {7200} <8799> (853) all (3605) his father's {1} sins {2403} which (834) he hath done, {6213} <8804> and considereth, {7200} <8799> and doeth {6213} <8799> not (3808) such like, [2004]

18:15 [That] hath not (3808) eaten {398} <8804> upon (5921) the mountains, {2022} neither (3808) hath lifted up {5375} <8804> his eyes {5869} to (413) the idols {1544} of the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} hath not (3808) defiled {2930} <8765> his neighbour's {7453} (853) wife, {802}

18:16 Neither (3808) hath oppressed {3238} <8689> any, {376} hath not (3808) withholden {2254} <8804> the pledge, {2258} neither (3808) hath spoiled {1497} <8804> by violence, {1500} [but] hath given {5414} <8804> his bread {3899} to the hungry, {7457} and hath covered {3680} <8765> the naked {5903} with a garment, {899}

18:17 [That] hath taken off {7725} <8689> his hand {3027} from the poor, {6041} (4480) [that] hath not (3808) received {3947} <8804> usury {5392} nor increase, {8636} hath executed {6213} <8804> my judgments, {4941} hath walked {1980} <8804> in my statutes; {2708} he (1931) shall not (3808) die {4191} <8799> for the iniquity {5771} of his father, {1} he shall surely [2421] <8800> live. {2421} <8799>

18:18 [As for] his father, {1} because (3588) he cruelly [6233] oppressed, {6231} <8804> (6233) spoiled {1497} <8804> his brother {251} by violence, {1499} and did {6213} <8804> [that] which (834) [is] not (3808) good {2896} among {8432} his people, {5971} lo, (2009) even he shall die {4191} <8801> in his iniquity. {5771}

18:19 ¶ Yet say {559} <8804> ye, Why? (4069) doth not (3808) the son {1121} bear {5375} <8804> the iniquity {5771} of the father? {1} When the son {1121} hath done {6213} <8804> that which is lawful {4941} and right, {6666} [and] hath kept {8104} <8804> (853) all (3605) my statutes, {2708} and hath done {6213} <8799> them, he shall surely [2421] <8800> live. {2421} <8799>

18:20 The soul {5315} that sinneth, {2398} <8802> it (1931) shall die. {4191} <8799> The son {1121} shall not (3808) bear {5375} <8799> the iniquity {5771} of the father, {1} neither (3808) shall the father {1} bear {5375} <8799> the iniquity {5771} of the son: {1121} the righteousness {6666} of the righteous {6662} shall be (1961) upon (5921) him, and the wickedness {7564} of the wicked {7563} shall be (1961) upon (5921) him.

18:21 But if (3588) the wicked {7563} will turn {7725} <8799> from all (4480) (3605) his sins {2403} that (834) he hath committed, {6213} <8804> and keep {8104} <8804> (853) all (3605) my statutes, {2708} and do {6213} <8804> that which is lawful {4941} and right, {6666} he shall surely [2421] <8800> live, {2421} <8799> he shall not (3808) die. {4191} <8799>

18:22 All (3605) his transgressions {6588} that (834) he hath committed, {6213} <8804> they shall not (3808) be mentioned {2142} <8735> unto him: in his righteousness {6666} that (834) he hath done {6213} <8804> he shall live. {2421} <8799>

18:23 Have I any pleasure [2654] <8799> at all {2654} <8800> that the wicked {7563} should die? {4194} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD: {3069} [and] not (3808) that he should return {7725} <8800> from his ways, {1870} (4480) and live? {2421} <8804>

18:24 ¶ But when the righteous {6662} turneth away {7725} <8800> from his righteousness, {6666} (4480) and committeth {6213} <8804> iniquity, {5766} [and] doeth {6213} <8799> according to all (3605) the abominations {8441} that (834) the wicked {7563} [man] doeth, {6213} <8804> shall he live? [2425] <8804> (2421) All (3605) his righteousness {6666} that (834) he hath done {6213} <8804> shall not (3808) be mentioned: {2142} <8735> in his trespass [4603] <8804> (4604) that (834) he hath trespassed, [4604] (4603) and in his sin {2403} that (834) he hath sinned, {2398} <8804> in them shall he die. {4191} <8799>

18:25 ¶ Yet ye say, {559} <8804> The way {1870} of the Lord {136} is not equal. {8505} <8735> (3808) Hear {8085} <8798> now, (4994) O house {1004} of Israel; {3478} Is not (3808) my way {1870} equal? {8505} <8735> are not (3808) your ways {1870} unequal? {8505} <8735> (3808)

18:26 When a righteous {6662} [man] turneth away {7725} <8800> from his righteousness, {6666} (4480) and committeth {6213} <8804> iniquity, {5766} and dieth {4191} <8804> in (5921) them; for his iniquity {5766} that (834) he hath done {6213} <8804> shall he die. {4191} <8799>

18:27 Again, when the wicked {7563} [man] turneth away {7725} <8800> from his wickedness {7564} (4480) that (834) he hath committed, {6213} <8804> and doeth {6213} <8799> that which is lawful {4941} and right, {6666} he (1931) shall save [2421] <0> his soul [5315] alive. {2421} <8762> (853) (5315)

18:28 Because he considereth, {7200} <8799> and turneth away {7725} <8799> from all (4480) (3605) his transgressions {6588} that (834) he hath committed, {6213} <8804> he shall surely [2421] <8800> live, {2421} <8799> he shall not (3808) die. {4191} <8799>

18:29 Yet saith {559} <8804> the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} The way {1870} of the Lord {136} is not equal. {8505} <8735> (3808) O house {1004} of Israel, {3478} are not (3808) my ways {1870} equal? {8505} <8735> are not (3808) your ways {1870} unequal? {8505} <8735> (3808)

18:30 Therefore (3651) I will judge {8199} <8799> you, O house {1004} of Israel, {3478} every one {376} according to his ways, {1870} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD. {3069} Repent, {7725} <8798> and turn {7725} <8685> [yourselves] from all (4480) (3605) your transgressions; {6588} so iniquity {5771} shall not (3808) be (1961) your ruin. {4383}

18:31 ¶ Cast away {7993} <8685> from (4480) (5921) you (853) all (3605) your transgressions, {6588} whereby (834) ye have transgressed; {6586} <8804> and make {6213} <8798> you a new {2319} heart {3820} and a new {2319} spirit: {7307} for why (4100) will ye die, {4191} <8799> O house {1004} of Israel? {3478}

18:32 For (3588) I have no pleasure {2654} <8799> (3808) in the death {4194} of him that dieth, {4191} <8801> saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD: {3069} wherefore turn {7725} <8685> [yourselves], and live {2421} <8798> ye.
