Ezekiel

Chapter 20

1  God refuseth to be consulted by the elders of Israel.  5  He sheweth the story of their rebellions in Egypt,  10  in the wilderness,  27  and in the land.  33  He promiseth to gather them by the Gospel.  45  Under the name of a forest he sheweth the destruction of Jerusalem.

20:1 ¶ And it came to pass (1961) in the seventh {7637} year, {8141} in the fifth {2549} [month], the tenth {6218} [day] of the month, {2320} [that] certain [582] (376) of the elders {2205} (4480) of Israel {3478} came {935} <8804> to enquire {1875} <8800> (853) of the LORD, {3068} and sat {3427} <8799> before {6440} me.

20:2 Then came (1961) the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} unto (413) me, saying, {559} <8800>

20:3 Son {1121} of man, {120} speak {1696} <8761> (853) unto the elders {2205} of Israel, {3478} and say {559} <8804> unto (413) them, Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Are ye (859) come {935} <8802> to enquire {1875} <8800> of me? [As] I (589) live, {2416} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD, {3069} I will not (518) be enquired {1875} <8735> of by you.

20:4 Wilt thou judge {8199} <8799> them, son {1121} of man, {120} wilt thou judge {8199} <8799> [them]? cause them to know {3045} <8685> (853) the abominations {8441} of their fathers: {1}

20:5 ¶ And say {559} <8804> unto (413) them, Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} In the day {3117} when I chose {977} <8800> Israel, {3478} and lifted up {5375} <8799> mine hand {3027} unto the seed {2233} of the house {1004} of Jacob, {3290} and made myself known {3045} <8735> unto them in the land {776} of Egypt, {4714} when I lifted [5375] <8799> up (5375) mine hand {3027} unto them, saying, {559} <8800> I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} your God; {430}

20:6 In the day {3117} [that] I lifted up {5375} <8804> mine hand {3027} unto them, to bring them forth {3318} <8687> of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt {4714} into (413) a land {776} that (834) I had espied {8446} <8804> for them, flowing {2100} <8802> with milk {2461} and honey, {1706} which (1931) [is] the glory {6643} of all (3605) lands: {776}

20:7 Then said {559} <8799> I unto (413) them, Cast ye away {7993} <8685> every man {376} the abominations {8251} of his eyes, {5869} and defile [2930] <8691> not yourselves (2930) (408) with the idols {1544} of Egypt: {4714} I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} your God. {430}

20:8 But they rebelled {4784} <8686> against me, and would {14} <8804> not (3808) hearken {8085} <8800> unto (413) me: they did not (3808) every man {376} cast away {7993} <8689> (853) the abominations {8251} of their eyes, {5869} neither (3808) did they forsake {5800} <8804> the idols {1544} of Egypt: {4714} then I said, {559} <8799> I will pour out {8210} <8800> my fury {2534} upon (5921) them, to accomplish {3615} <8763> my anger {639} against them in the midst {8432} of the land {776} of Egypt. {4714}

20:9 But I wrought {6213} <8799> for my name's [8034] sake, (4616) (8034) that it should not (1115) be polluted {2490} <8736> before {5869} the heathen, {1471} among {8432} whom (834) they (1992) [were], in whose (834) sight {5869} I made myself known {3045} <8738> unto (413) them, in bringing them forth {3318} <8687> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt. {4714}

20:10 ¶ Wherefore I caused them to go (3318) forth [3318] <8686> out of the land {776} (4480) of Egypt, {4714} and brought {935} <8686> them into (413) the wilderness. {4057}

20:11 And I gave {5414} <8799> them (853) my statutes, {2708} and shewed {3045} <8689> them my judgments, {4941} which (834) [if] a man {120} do, {6213} <8799> (853) he shall even live [2425] <8804> (2421) in them.

20:12 Moreover also (1571) I gave {5414} <8804> them (853) my sabbaths, {7676} to be (1961) a sign {226} between (996) me and them, that they might know {3045} <8800> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} that sanctify {6942} <8764> them.

20:13 But the house {1004} of Israel {3478} rebelled {4784} <8686> against me in the wilderness: {4057} they walked {1980} <8804> not (3808) in my statutes, {2708} and they despised {3988} <8804> my judgments, {4941} which (834) [if] a man {120} do, {6213} <8799> (853) he shall even live [2425] <8804> (2421) in them; and my sabbaths {7676} they greatly {3966} polluted: {2490} <8765> then I said, {559} <8799> I would pour out {8210} <8800> my fury {2534} upon (5921) them in the wilderness, {4057} to consume {3615} <8763> them.

20:14 But I wrought {6213} <8799> for my name's [8034] sake, (4616) (8034) that it should not (1115) be polluted {2490} <8736> before {5869} the heathen, {1471} in whose (834) sight {5869} I brought them out. {3318} <8689>

20:15 Yet also (1571) I (589) lifted up {5375} <8804> my hand {3027} unto them in the wilderness, {4057} that I would not (1115) bring {935} <8687> them into (413) the land {776} which (834) I had given {5414} <8804> [them], flowing {2100} <8802> with milk {2461} and honey, {1706} which (1931) [is] the glory {6643} of all (3605) lands; {776}

20:16 Because (3282) they despised {3988} <8804> my judgments, {4941} and walked {1980} <8804> not (3808) in my statutes, {2708} but polluted {2490} <8765> my sabbaths: {7676} for (3588) their heart {3820} went {1980} <8802> after {310} their idols. {1544}

20:17 Nevertheless mine eye {5869} spared {2347} <8799> (5921) them from destroying {7843} <8763> (4480) them, neither (3808) did I make {6213} <8804> an end {3617} of them in the wilderness. {4057}

20:18 But I said {559} <8799> unto (413) their children {1121} in the wilderness, {4057} Walk [3212] <8799> (1980) ye not (408) in the statutes {2706} of your fathers, {1} neither (408) observe {8104} <8799> their judgments, {4941} nor (408) defile [2930] <8691> yourselves (2930) with their idols: {1544}

20:19 I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} your God; {430} walk [3212] <8798> (1980) in my statutes, {2708} and keep {8104} <8798> my judgments, {4941} and do {6213} <8798> them;

20:20 And hallow {6942} <8761> my sabbaths; {7676} and they shall be (1961) a sign {226} between (996) me and you, that ye may know {3045} <8800> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} your God. {430}

20:21 Notwithstanding the children {1121} rebelled {4784} <8686> against me: they walked {1980} <8804> not (3808) in my statutes, {2708} neither (3808) kept {8104} <8804> my judgments {4941} to do {6213} <8800> them, which (834) [if] a man {120} do, {6213} <8799> (853) he shall even live [2425] <8804> (2421) in them; they polluted {2490} <8765> (853) my sabbaths: {7676} then I said, {559} <8799> I would pour out {8210} <8800> my fury {2534} upon (5921) them, to accomplish {3615} <8763> my anger {639} against them in the wilderness. {4057}

20:22 Nevertheless I withdrew {7725} <8689> (853) mine hand, {3027} and wrought {6213} <8799> for my name's [8034] sake, (4616) (8034) that it should not (1115) be polluted {2490} <8736> in the sight {5869} of the heathen, {1471} in whose (834) sight {5869} I brought them forth. {3318} <8689> (853)

20:23 I (589) lifted up {5375} <8804> (853) mine hand {3027} unto them also (1571) in the wilderness, {4057} that I would scatter {6327} <8687> them among the heathen, {1471} and disperse {2219} <8763> them through the countries; {776}

20:24 Because (3282) they had not (3808) executed {6213} <8804> my judgments, {4941} but had despised {3988} <8804> my statutes, {2708} and had polluted {2490} <8765> my sabbaths, {7676} and their eyes {5869} were (1961) after {310} their fathers' {1} idols. {1544}

20:25 Wherefore I (589) gave {5414} <8804> them also (1571) statutes {2706} [that were] not (3808) good, {2896} and judgments {4941} whereby they should not (3808) live; {2421} <8799>

20:26 And I polluted {2930} <8762> them in their own gifts, {4979} in that they caused to pass through {5674} <8687> [the fire] all (3605) that openeth {6363} the womb, {7356} that (4616) I might make them desolate, {8074} <8686> to the end (4616) that (834) they might know {3045} <8799> that (834) I (589) [am] the LORD. {3068}

20:27 ¶ Therefore, (3651) son {1121} of man, {120} speak {1696} <8761> unto (413) the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} and say {559} <8804> unto (413) them, Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Yet (5750) in this (2063) your fathers {1} have blasphemed {1442} <8765> me, in that they have committed {4603} <8800> a trespass {4604} against me.

20:28 [For] when I had brought {935} <8686> them into (413) the land, {776} [for] the which (834) I lifted up {5375} <8804> (853) mine hand {3027} to give {5414} <8800> it to them, then they saw {7200} <8799> every (3605) high {7311} <8802> hill, {1389} and all (3605) the thick {5687} trees, {6086} and they offered {2076} <8799> there (8033) (853) their sacrifices, {2077} and there (8033) they presented {5414} <8799> the provocation {3708} of their offering: {7133} there (8033) also they made {7760} <8799> their sweet {5207} savour, {7381} and poured out {5258} <8686> there (8033) (853) their drink offerings. {5262}

20:29 Then I said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, What (4100) [is] the high place {1116} whereunto (834) (8033) ye (859) go? {935} <8802> And the name {8034} thereof is called {7121} <8735> Bamah {1117} unto (5704) this (2088) day. {3117}

20:30 Wherefore (3651) say {559} <8798> unto (413) the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Are ye (859) polluted {2930} <8737> after the manner {1870} of your fathers? {1} and commit ye whoredom {2181} <8802> (859) after {310} their abominations? {8251}

20:31 For when ye offer {5375} <8800> your gifts, {4979} when ye make your sons {1121} to pass (5674) through [5674] <8687> the fire, {784} ye (859) pollute [2930] <8737> yourselves (2930) with all (3605) your idols, {1544} even unto (5704) this day: {3117} and shall I (589) be enquired [1875] <8735> of (1875) by you, O house {1004} of Israel? {3478} [As] I (589) live, {2416} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD, {3069} I will not (518) be enquired [1875] <8735> of (1875) by you.

20:32 And that which cometh {5927} <8802> into (5921) your mind {7307} shall not (3808) be at all, {1961} that (834) ye (859) say, {559} <8802> We will be {1961} <8799> as the heathen, {1471} as the families {4940} of the countries, {776} to serve {8334} <8763> wood {6086} and stone. {68}

20:33 ¶ [As] I (589) live, {2416} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD, {3069} surely (518) (3808) with a mighty {2389} hand, {3027} and with a stretched out {5186} <8803> arm, {2220} and with fury {2534} poured out, {8210} <8803> will I rule {4427} <8799> over (5921) you:

20:34 And I will bring you out {3318} <8689> (853) from (4480) the people, {5971} and will gather {6908} <8765> you out of (4480) the countries {776} wherein (834) ye are scattered, {6327} <8738> with a mighty {2389} hand, {3027} and with a stretched out {5186} <8803> arm, {2220} and with fury {2534} poured out. {8210} <8803>

20:35 And I will bring {935} <8689> you into (413) the wilderness {4057} of the people, {5971} and there (8033) will I plead {8199} <8738> with (854) you face {6440} to (413) face. {6440}

20:36 Like as (834) I pleaded {8199} <8738> with (854) your fathers {1} in the wilderness {4057} of the land {776} of Egypt, {4714} so (3651) will I plead {8199} <8735> with (854) you, saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD. {3069}

20:37 And I will cause you to pass {5674} <8689> under (8478) the rod, {7626} and I will bring {935} <8689> you into the bond {4562} of the covenant: {1285}

20:38 And I will purge out {1305} <8804> from (4480) among you the rebels, {4775} <8802> and them that transgress {6586} <8802> against me: I will bring them forth {3318} <8686> (853) out of the country {776} (4480) where they sojourn, {4033} and they shall not (3808) enter {935} <8799> into (413) the land {127} of Israel: {3478} and ye shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD. {3068}

20:39 As for you, (859) O house {1004} of Israel, {3478} thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Go [3212] <8798> (1980) ye, serve {5647} <8798> ye every one {376} his idols, {1544} and hereafter {310} [also], if (518) ye will not (369) hearken {8085} <8802> unto (413) me: but pollute {2490} <8762> ye my holy {6944} name {8034} no (3808) more (5750) with your gifts, {4979} and with your idols. {1544}

20:40 For (3588) in mine holy {6944} mountain, {2022} in the mountain {2022} of the height {4791} of Israel, {3478} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD, {3069} there (8033) shall all (3605) the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} all (3605) of them in the land, {776} serve {5647} <8799> me: there (8033) will I accept {7521} <8799> them, and there (8033) will I require {1875} <8799> (853) your offerings, {8641} and the firstfruits {7225} of your oblations, {4864} with all (3605) your holy things. {6944}

20:41 I will accept {7521} <8799> you with your sweet {5207} savour, {7381} when I bring you out {3318} <8687> (853) from (4480) the people, {5971} and gather {6908} <8765> you out of (4480) the countries {776} wherein (834) ye have been scattered; {6327} <8738> and I will be sanctified {6942} <8738> in you before {5869} the heathen. {1471}

20:42 And ye shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD, {3068} when I shall bring {935} <8687> you into (413) the land {127} of Israel, {3478} into (413) the country {776} [for] the which (834) I lifted up {5375} <8804> (853) mine hand {3027} to give {5414} <8800> it to your fathers. {1}

20:43 And there (8033) shall ye remember {2142} <8804> (853) your ways, {1870} and all (3605) your doings, {5949} wherein (834) ye have been defiled; {2930} <8738> and ye shall lothe [6962] <8738> yourselves (6962) in your own sight {6440} for all (3605) your evils {7451} that (834) ye have committed. {6213} <8804>

20:44 And ye shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD, {3068} when I have wrought {6213} <8800> with (854) you for my name's [8034] sake, (4616) (8034) not (3808) according to your wicked {7451} ways, {1870} nor according to your corrupt {7843} <8737> doings, {5949} O ye house {1004} of Israel, {3478} saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD. {3069}

20:45 ¶ Moreover the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} came (1961) unto (413) me, saying, {559} <8800>

20:46 Son {1121} of man, {120} set {7760} <8798> thy face {6440} toward {1870} the south, {8486} and drop {5197} <8685> [thy word] toward (413) the south, {1864} and prophesy {5012} <8734> against (413) the forest {3293} of the south {5045} field; {7704}

20:47 And say {559} <8804> to the forest {3293} of the south, {5045} Hear {8085} <8798> the word {1697} of the LORD; {3068} Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Behold, (2009) I will kindle {3341} <8688> a fire {784} in thee, and it shall devour {398} <8804> every (3605) green {3892} tree {6086} in thee, and every (3605) dry {3002} tree: {6086} the flaming {3852} flame {7957} shall not (3808) be quenched, {3518} <8799> and all (3605) faces {6440} from the south {5045} (4480) to the north {6828} shall be burned {6866} <8738> therein.

20:48 And all (3605) flesh {1320} shall see {7200} <8804> that (3588) I (589) the LORD {3068} have kindled {1197} <8765> it: it shall not (3808) be quenched. {3518} <8799>

20:49 Then said {559} <8799> I, Ah {162} Lord {136} GOD! {3069} they (1992) say {559} <8802> of me, Doth he (1931) not (3808) speak {4911} <8764> parables? {4912}
