Ezekiel

Chapter 24

1  Under the parable of a boiling pot,  6  is shewed the irrevocable destruction of Jerusalem.  15  By the sign of Ezekiel not mourning for the death of his wife,  19  is shewed the calamity of the Jews to be beyond all sorrow.

24:1 ¶ Again in the ninth {8671} year, {8141} in the tenth {6224} month, {2320} in the tenth {6218} [day] of the month, {2320} the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} came (1961) unto (413) me, saying, {559} <8800>

24:2 Son {1121} of man, {120} write {3789} <8798> thee (853) the name {8034} of the day, {3117} (853) [even] of this (2088) same {6106} day: {3117} the king {4428} of Babylon {894} set {5564} <8804> himself against (413) Jerusalem {3389} this (2088) same {6106} day. {3117}

24:3 And utter {4911} <8798> a parable {4912} unto (413) the rebellious {4805} house, {1004} and say {559} <8804> unto (413) them, Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Set on {8239} <8798> a pot, {5518} set [it] on, {8239} <8798> and also (1571) pour {3332} <8798> water {4325} into it:

24:4 Gather {622} <8798> the pieces {5409} thereof into (413) it, [even] every (3605) good {2896} piece, {5409} the thigh, {3409} and the shoulder; {3802} fill {4390} <8761> [it] with the choice {4005} bones. {6106}

24:5 Take {3947} <8800> the choice {4005} of the flock, {6629} and burn [1754] (1752) also (1571) the bones {6106} under (8478) it, [and] make it boil {7570} <8761> well, {7571} and (1571) let them seethe {1310} <8804> the bones {6106} of it therein. {8432}

24:6 ¶ Wherefore (3651) thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Woe {188} to the bloody {1818} city, {5892} to the pot {5518} whose (834) scum {2457} [is] therein, and whose scum {2457} is not (3808) gone out {3318} <8804> of (4480) it! bring it out {3318} <8685> piece {5409} by piece; {5409} let no (3808) lot {1486} fall {5307} <8804> upon (5921) it.

24:7 For (3588) her blood {1818} is (1961) in the midst {8432} of her; she set {7760} <8804> it upon (5921) the top {6706} of a rock; {5553} she poured {8210} <8804> it not (3808) upon (5921) the ground, {776} to cover {3680} <8763> (5921) it with dust; {6083}

24:8 That it might cause fury {2534} to come up {5927} <8687> to take {5358} <8800> vengeance; {5359} I have set {5414} <8804> (853) her blood {1818} upon (5921) the top {6706} of a rock, {5553} that it should not (1115) be covered. {3680} <8736>

24:9 Therefore (3651) thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Woe {188} to the bloody {1818} city! {5892} I (589) will even (1571) make the pile [4071] for fire (4071) great. {1431} <8686>

24:10 Heap [7235] <8685> on (7235) wood, {6086} kindle {1814} <8687> the fire, {784} consume {8552} <8687> the flesh, {1320} and spice [7543] <8687> it well, {4841} (7543) and let the bones {6106} be burned. {2787} <8735>

24:11 Then set {5975} <8687> it empty {7386} upon (5921) the coals {1513} thereof, that (4616) the brass {5178} of it may be hot, [3179] <8799> (2552) and may burn, {2787} <8804> and [that] the filthiness {2932} of it may be molten {5413} <8738> in (8432) it, [8432] [that] the scum {2457} of it may be consumed. {8552} <8799>

24:12 She hath wearied {3811} <8689> [herself] with lies, {8383} and her great {7227} scum {2457} went not forth {3318} <8799> (3808) out of (4480) her: her scum {2457} [shall be] in the fire. {784}

24:13 In thy filthiness {2932} [is] lewdness: {2154} because (3282) I have purged {2891} <8765> thee, and thou wast not (3808) purged, {2891} <8804> thou shalt not (3808) be purged {2891} <8799> from thy filthiness {2932} (4480) any more, (5750) till (5704) I have caused (853) my fury {2534} to rest {5117} <8687> upon thee.

24:14 I (589) the LORD {3068} have spoken {1696} <8765> [it]: it shall come to pass, {935} <8802> and I will do {6213} <8804> [it]; I will not (3808) go back, {6544} <8799> neither (3808) will I spare, {2347} <8799> neither (3808) will I repent; {5162} <8735> according to thy ways, {1870} and according to thy doings, {5949} shall they judge {8199} <8804> thee, saith {5002} <8803> the Lord {136} GOD. {3069}

24:15 ¶ Also the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} came (1961) unto (413) me, saying, {559} <8800>

24:16 Son {1121} of man, {120} behold, (2009) I take away {3947} <8802> from (4480) thee (853) the desire {4261} of thine eyes {5869} with a stroke: {4046} yet neither (3808) shalt thou mourn {5594} <8799> nor (3808) weep, {1058} <8799> neither (3808) shall thy tears {1832} run down. {935} <8799>

24:17 Forbear {1826} <8798> to cry, {602} <8736> make {6213} <8799> no (3808) mourning {60} for the dead, {4191} <8801> bind {2280} <8798> the tire of thine head {6287} upon (5921) thee, and put on {7760} <8799> thy shoes {5275} upon thy feet, {7272} and cover {5844} <8799> not (3808) [thy] lips, {8222} and eat {398} <8799> not (3808) the bread {3899} of men. 24:18 So I spake {1696} <8762> unto (413) the people {5971} in the morning: {1242} and at even {6153} my wife {802} died; {4191} <8799> and I did {6213} <8799> in the morning {1242} as (834) I was commanded. {6680} <8795>

24:19 ¶ And the people {5971} said {559} <8799> unto (413) me, Wilt thou not (3808) tell {5046} <8686> us what (4100) these (428) [things are] to us, that (3588) thou (859) doest {6213} <8802> [so]?

24:20 Then I answered {559} <8799> (413) them, The word {1697} of the LORD {3068} came (1961) unto (413) me, saying, {559} <8800>

24:21 Speak {559} <8798> unto the house {1004} of Israel, {3478} Thus (3541) saith {559} <8804> the Lord {136} GOD; {3069} Behold, (2009) I will profane {2490} <8764> (853) my sanctuary, {4720} the excellency {1347} of your strength, {5797} the desire {4261} of your eyes, {5869} and that which your soul {5315} pitieth; {4263} and your sons {1121} and your daughters {1323} whom (834) ye have left {5800} <8804> shall fall {5307} <8799> by the sword. {2719}

24:22 And ye shall do {6213} <8804> as (834) I have done: {6213} <8804> ye shall not (3808) cover {5844} <8799> (5921) [your] lips, {8222} nor (3808) eat {398} <8799> the bread {3899} of men. [582] (376)

24:23 And your tires {6287} [shall be] upon (5921) your heads, {7218} and your shoes {5275} upon your feet: {7272} ye shall not (3808) mourn {5594} <8799> nor (3808) weep; {1058} <8799> but ye shall pine away {4743} <8738> for your iniquities, {5771} and mourn {5098} <8804> one {376} toward (413) another. {251}

24:24 Thus Ezekiel {3168} is (1961) unto you a sign: {4159} according to all (3605) that (834) he hath done {6213} <8804> shall ye do: {6213} <8799> and when this cometh, {935} <8800> ye shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) I (589) [am] the Lord {136} GOD. {3069}

24:25 Also, thou (859) son {1121} of man, {120} [shall it] not (3808) [be] in the day {3117} when I take {3947} <8800> from (4480) them (853) their strength, {4581} the joy {4885} of their glory, {8597} (853) the desire {4261} of their eyes, {5869} and that whereupon they set {4853} their minds, {5315} their sons {1121} and their daughters, {1323}

24:26 [That] he that escapeth {6412} in that (1931) day {3117} shall come {935} <8799> unto (413) thee, to cause [thee] to hear {2045} [it] with [thine] ears? {241}

24:27 In that (1931) day {3117} shall thy mouth {6310} be opened {6605} <8735> (853) to him which is escaped, {6412} and thou shalt speak, {1696} <8762> and be no more dumb: {481} <8735> (3808) (5750) and thou shalt be (1961) a sign {4159} unto them; and they shall know {3045} <8804> that (3588) I (589) [am] the LORD. {3068}
