Chapter 15

1  God encourageth Abram.  2  Abram complaineth for want of an heir.  4  God promiseth him a son, and a multiplying of his seed.  6  Abram is justified by faith.  7  Canaan is promised again, and confirmed by a sign,  12  and a vision.

15:1 ¶ After {310} these (428) things {1697} the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} came {1961} <8804> unto (413) Abram {87} in a vision, {4236} saying, {559} <8800> Fear {3372} <8799> not, (408) Abram: {87} I (595) [am] thy shield, {4043} [and] thy exceeding {3966} great {7235} <8687> reward. {7939}

15:2 And Abram {87} said, {559} <8799> Lord {136} GOD, {3069} what (4100) wilt thou give {5414} <8799> me, seeing I (595) go {1980} <8802> childless, {6185} and the steward {1121} {4943} of my house {1004} [is] this {1931} Eliezer {461} of Damascus? {1834}

15:3 And Abram {87} said, {559} <8799> Behold, (2005) to me thou hast given {5414} <8804> no {3808} seed: {2233} and, lo, (2009) one born {1121} in my house {1004} is mine heir. {3423} <8802>

15:4 And, behold, (2009) the word {1697} of the LORD {3068} [came] unto (413) him, saying, {559} <8800> This (2088) shall not (3808) be thine heir; {3423} <8799> but (3588) (518) he that (834) shall come forth {3318} <8799> out of thine own bowels {4578} (4480) shall be thine heir. {3423} <8799>

15:5 And he brought him forth {3318} <8686> (853) abroad, {2351} and said, {559} <8799> Look {5027} <8685> now (4994) toward heaven, {8064} and tell {5608} <8798> the stars, {3556} if (518) thou be able {3201} <8799> to number {5608} <8800> them: and he said {559} <8799> unto him, So {3541} shall thy seed {2233} be. (1961)

15:6 And he believed {539} <8689> in the LORD; {3068} and he counted {2803} <8799> it to him for righteousness. {6666}

15:7 And he said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} that (834) brought (3318) thee out [3318] <8689> of Ur {218} (4480) of the Chaldees, {3778} to give {5414} <8800> thee (853) this (2063) land {776} to inherit {3423} <8800> it.

15:8 And he said, {559} <8799> Lord {136} GOD, {3069} whereby {4100} shall I know {3045} <8799> that (3588) I shall inherit (3423) it? [3423] <8799>

15:9 And he said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, Take {3947} <8798> me an heifer {5697} of three years old, {8027} <8794> and a she goat {5795} of three years old, {8027} <8794> and a ram {352} of three years old, {8027} <8794> and a turtledove, {8449} and a young pigeon. {1469}

15:10 And he took {3947} <8799> unto him (853) all (3605) these, (428) and divided {1334} <8762> them in the midst, {8432} and laid {5414} <8799> each {376} piece {1335} one against {7125} <8800> another: {7453} but the birds {6833} divided {1334} <8804> he not. (3808)

15:11 And when the fowls {5861} came down {3381} <8799> upon (5921) the carcases, {6297} Abram {87} drove them away. {5380} <8686> (853)

15:12 And when the sun {8121} was going down, {935} <8800> a deep sleep {8639} fell {5307} <8804> upon (5921) Abram; {87} and, lo, (2009) an horror {367} of great {1419} darkness {2825} fell {5307} <8802> upon (5921) him.

15:13 And he said {559} <8799> unto Abram, {87} Know [3045] <8799> of a surety {3045} <8800> that (3588) thy seed {2233} shall be (1961) a stranger {1616} in a land {776} [that is] not (3808) theirs, and shall serve {5647} <8804> them; and they shall afflict {6031} <8765> them four {702} hundred {3967} years; {8141}

15:14 And also (1571) (853) that nation, {1471} whom (834) they shall serve, {5647} <8799> will I (595) judge: {1777} <8802> and afterward {310} {3651} shall they come out {3318} <8799> with great {1419} substance. {7399}

15:15 And thou (859) shalt go {935} <8799> to (413) thy fathers {1} in peace; {7965} thou shalt be buried {6912} <8735> in a good {2896} old age. {7872}

15:16 But in the fourth {7243} generation {1755} they shall come hither [2008] again: {7725} <8799> (2008) for (3588) the iniquity {5771} of the Amorites {567} [is] not (3808) yet {2008} (5704) full. {8003}

15:17 And it came to pass, (1961) that, when the sun {8121} went down, {935} <8804> and it was (1961) dark, {5939} behold (2009) a smoking {6227} furnace, {8574} and a burning {784} lamp {3940} that (834) passed {5674} <8804> between {996} those (428) pieces. {1506}

15:18 In the same {1931} day {3117} the LORD {3068} made {3772} <8804> a covenant {1285} with (854) Abram, {87} saying, {559} <8800> Unto thy seed {2233} have I given {5414} <8804> this (2063) (853) land, {776} from the river {5104} (4480) of Egypt {4714} unto (5704) the great {1419} river, {5104} the river {5104} Euphrates: {6578}

15:19 (853) The Kenites, {7017} and the Kenizzites, {7074} and the Kadmonites, {6935}

15:20 And the Hittites, {2850} and the Perizzites, {6522} and the Rephaims, {7497}

15:21 And the Amorites, {567} and the Canaanites, {3669} and the Girgashites, {1622} and the Jebusites. {2983}
