Chapter 22

1  Abraham is tempted to offer Isaac.  3  He giveth proof of his faith and obedience.  11  The angel stayeth him.  13  Isaac is exchanged with a ram.  14  The place is called JEHOVAH-jireh.  15  Abraham is blessed again.  20  The generation of Nahor unto Rebekah.

22:1 ¶ And it came to pass (1961) after {310} these (428) things, {1697} that God {430} did tempt {5254} <8765> (853) Abraham, {85} and said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, Abraham: {85} and he said, {559} <8799> Behold, (2009) [here] I [am].

22:2 And he said, {559} <8799> Take (3947) now [3947] <8798> (4994) (853) thy son, {1121} (853) thine only {3173} [son] (853) Isaac, {3327} whom (834) thou lovest, {157} <8804> and get (1980) thee [3212] <8798> into (413) the land {776} of Moriah; {4179} and offer (5927) him [5927] <8685> there (8033) for a burnt offering {5930} upon (5921) one {259} of the mountains {2022} which (834) I will tell {559} <8799> thee of. (413)

22:3 ¶ And Abraham {85} rose up early {7925} <8686> in the morning, {1242} and saddled {2280} <8799> (853) his ass, {2543} and took {3947} <8799> (853) two {8147} of his young men {5288} with (854) him, and Isaac {3327} his son, {1121} and clave {1234} <8762> the wood {6086} for the burnt offering, {5930} and rose up, {6965} <8799> and went [3212] <8799> (1980) unto (413) the place {4725} of which (834) God {430} had told {559} <8804> him.

22:4 Then on the third {7992} day {3117} Abraham {85} lifted up {5375} <8799> (853) his eyes, {5869} and saw {7200} <8799> (853) the place {4725} afar off. {7350} (4480)

22:5 And Abraham {85} said {559} <8799> unto (413) his young men, {5288} Abide {3427} <8798> ye here (6311) with (5973) the ass; {2543} and I (589) and the lad {5288} will go [3212] <8799> (1980) yonder {3541} (5704) and worship, {7812} <8691> and come again {7725} <8799> to (413) you.

22:6 And Abraham {85} took {3947} <8799> (853) the wood {6086} of the burnt offering, {5930} and laid {7760} <8799> [it] upon (5921) Isaac {3327} his son; {1121} and he took {3947} <8799> (853) the fire {784} in his hand, {3027} and a knife; {3979} and they went [3212] <8799> (1980) both {8147} of them together. {3162}

22:7 And Isaac {3327} spake {559} <8799> unto (413) Abraham {85} his father, {1} and said, {559} <8799> My father: {1} and he said, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I, my son. {1121} And he said, {559} <8799> Behold (2009) the fire {784} and the wood: {6086} but where (346) [is] the lamb {7716} for a burnt offering? {5930}

22:8 And Abraham {85} said, {559} <8799> My son, {1121} God {430} will provide {7200} <8799> himself a lamb {7716} for a burnt offering: {5930} so they went [3212] <8799> (1980) both (8147) of them [8147] together. {3162}

22:9 And they came {935} <8799> to (413) the place {4725} which (834) God {430} had told {559} <8804> him of; and Abraham {85} built {1129} <8799> (853) an altar {4196} there, (8033) and laid [6186] <0> the wood [6086] in order, {6186} <8799> (853) (6086) and bound {6123} <8799> (853) Isaac {3327} his son, {1121} and laid {7760} <8799> him on (5921) the altar {4196} upon {4605} (4480) the wood. {6086}

22:10 And Abraham {85} stretched forth {7971} <8799> (853) his hand, {3027} and took {3947} <8799> (853) the knife {3979} to slay {7819} <8800> (853) his son. {1121}

22:11 And the angel {4397} of the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8799> unto (413) him out of (4480) heaven, {8064} and said, {559} <8799> Abraham, {85} Abraham: {85} and he said, {559} <8799> Here (2009) [am] I.

22:12 And he said, {559} <8799> Lay {7971} <8799> not (408) thine hand {3027} upon {413} the lad, {5288} neither (408) do (6213) thou [6213] <8799> any thing {3972} unto him: for (3588) now {6258} I know {3045} <8804> that (3588) thou (859) fearest {3373} God, {430} seeing thou hast not {3808} withheld {2820} <8804> (853) thy son, {1121} (853) thine only {3173} [son] from (4480) me.

22:13 And Abraham {85} lifted up {5375} <8799> (853) his eyes, {5869} and looked, {7200} <8799> and behold (2009) behind {310} [him] a ram {352} caught {270} <8737> in a thicket {5442} by his horns: {7161} and Abraham {85} went [3212] <8799> (1980) and took {3947} <8799> (853) the ram, {352} and offered him up {5927} <8686> for a burnt offering {5930} in the stead [8478] of (8478) his son. {1121}

22:14 And Abraham {85} called {7121} <8799> the name {8034} of that (1931) place {4725} Jehovahjireh: {3070} as {834} it is said {559} <8735> [to] this day, {3117} In the mount {2022} of the LORD {3068} it shall be seen. {7200} <8735>

22:15 ¶ And the angel {4397} of the LORD {3068} called {7121} <8799> unto (413) Abraham {85} out of (4480) heaven {8064} the second time, {8145}

22:16 And said, {559} <8799> By myself have I sworn, {7650} <8738> saith {5002} <8803> the LORD, {3068} for (3588) because {3282} {834} thou hast done {6213} <8804> (853) this (2088) thing, {1697} and hast not {3808} withheld {2820} <8804> (853) thy son, {1121} (853) thine only {3173} [son]:

22:17 That (3588) in blessing {1288} <8763> I will bless {1288} <8762> thee, and in multiplying {7235} <8687> I will multiply {7235} <8686> (853) thy seed {2233} as the stars {3556} of the heaven, {8064} and as the sand {2344} which (834) [is] upon (5921) the sea {3220} shore; {8193} and thy seed {2233} shall possess {3423} <8799> (853) the gate {8179} of his enemies; {341} <8802>

22:18 And in thy seed {2233} shall all (3605) the nations {1471} of the earth {776} be blessed; {1288} <8694> because {834} {6118} thou hast obeyed {8085} <8804> my voice. {6963}

22:19 So Abraham {85} returned {7725} <8799> unto (413) his young men, {5288} and they rose up {6965} <8799> and went [3212] <8799> (1980) together {3162} to (413) Beersheba; {884} and Abraham {85} dwelt {3427} <8799> at Beersheba. {884}

22:20 ¶ And it came to pass (1961) after {310} these (428) things, {1697} that it was told {5046} <8714> Abraham, {85} saying, {559} <8800> Behold, (2009) Milcah, {4435} she (1931) hath also (1571) born {3205} <8804> children {1121} unto thy brother {251} Nahor; {5152}

22:21 (853) Huz {5780} his firstborn, {1060} and Buz {938} his brother, {251} and Kemuel {7055} the father {1} of Aram, {758}

22:22 And Chesed, {3777} and Hazo, {2375} and Pildash, {6394} and Jidlaph, {3044} and Bethuel. {1328}

22:23 And Bethuel {1328} begat {3205} <8804> (853) Rebekah: {7259} these (428) eight {8083} Milcah {4435} did bear {3205} <8804> to Nahor, {5152} Abraham's {85} brother. {251}

22:24 And his concubine, {6370} whose name {8034} [was] Reumah, {7208} she (1931) bare {3205} <8799> also (1571) (853) Tebah, {2875} and Gaham, {1514} and Thahash, {8477} and Maachah. {4601}
