Chapter 43

1  Jacob is hardly persuaded to send Benjamin.  15  Joseph entertaineth his brethren.  31  He maketh them a feast.

43:1 ¶ And the famine {7458} [was] sore {3515} in the land. {776}

43:2 And it came to pass, (1961) when (834) they had eaten up {3615} {398} <8765> <8800> (853) the corn {7668} which (834) they had brought (935) out [935] <8689> of Egypt, {4714} (4480) their father {1} said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, Go again, {7725} <8798> buy {7666} <8798> us a little {4592} food. {400}

43:3 And Judah {3063} spake {559} <8799> unto (413) him, saying, {559} <8800> The man {376} did solemnly [5749] <8687> protest {5749} <8689> unto us, saying, {559} <8800> Ye shall not (3808) see {7200} <8799> my face, {6440} except {1115} your brother {251} [be] with (854) you.

43:4 If (518) thou wilt {3426} send {7971} <8764> (853) our brother {251} with (854) us, we will go down {3381} <8799> and buy {7666} <8799> thee food: {400}

43:5 But if (518) thou wilt not (369) send {7971} <8764> [him], we will not (3808) go down: {3381} <8799> for (3588) the man {376} said {559} <8804> unto (413) us, Ye shall not (3808) see {7200} <8799> my face, {6440} except (1115) your brother {251} [be] with (854) you.

43:6 And Israel {3478} said, {559} <8799> Wherefore (4100) dealt ye [so] ill {7489} <8689> with me, [as] to tell {5046} <8687> the man {376} whether ye had yet (5750) a brother? {251}

43:7 And they said, {559} <8799> The man {376} asked [7592] <8804> us straitly {7592} <8800> of our state, and of our kindred, {4138} saying, {559} <8800> [Is] your father {1} yet (5750) alive? {2416} have (3426) ye [3426] [another] brother? {251} and we told {5046} <8686> him according [5921] to (5921) the tenor {6310} of these (428) words: {1697} could we certainly [3045] <8800> know {3045} <8799> that (3588) he would say, {559} <8799> Bring [3381] <0> your brother [251] down? {3381} <8685> (853) (251)

43:8 And Judah {3063} said {559} <8799> unto (413) Israel {3478} his father, {1} Send {7971} <8798> the lad {5288} with (854) me, and we will arise {6965} <8799> and go; [3212] <8799> (1980) that we may live, {2421} <8799> and not (3808) die, {4191} <8799> both (1571) we, (587) and (1571) thou, (859) [and] also (1571) our little ones. {2945}

43:9 I (595) will be surety {6148} <8799> for him; of my hand {3027} (4480) shalt thou require {1245} <8762> him: if {518} <0> I bring {935} <8689> him not [518] (3808) unto (413) thee, and set {3322} <8689> him before (6440) thee, [6440] then let me bear the blame {2398} <8804> for ever: {3117} (3605)

43:10 For (3588) except {3884} we had lingered, {4102} <8701> surely (3588) now (6258) we had returned {7725} <8804> this (2088) second time. {6471}

43:11 And their father {1} Israel {3478} said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, If (518) [it must be] so (3651) now, {645} do {6213} <8798> this; (2063) take {3947} <8798> of the best fruits {2173} (4480) in the land {776} in your vessels, {3627} and carry down {3381} <8685> the man {376} a present, {4503} a little {4592} balm, {6875} and a little {4592} honey, {1706} spices, {5219} and myrrh, {3910} nuts, {992} and almonds: {8247}

43:12 And take {3947} <8798> double {4932} money {3701} in your hand; {3027} and the money {3701} that was brought again {7725} <8716> in the mouth {6310} of your sacks, {572} carry [it] again {7725} <8686> in your hand; {3027} peradventure (194) it (1931) [was] an oversight: {4870}

43:13 Take {3947} <8798> also your brother, {251} and arise, {6965} <8798> go again {7725} <8798> unto (413) the man: {376}

43:14 And God {410} Almighty {7706} give {5414} <8799> you mercy {7356} before {6440} the man, {376} that he may send away {7971} <8765> (853) your other {312} brother, {251} and Benjamin. {1144} If {834} I (589) be bereaved {7921} <8804> [of my children], I am bereaved. {7921} <8804>

43:15 ¶ And the men [582] (376) took {3947} <8799> (853) that {2063} present, {4503} and they took {3947} <8804> double {4932} money {3701} in their hand, {3027} and Benjamin; {1144} and rose up, {6965} <8799> and went down {3381} <8799> to Egypt, {4714} and stood {5975} <8799> before {6440} Joseph. {3130}

43:16 And when Joseph {3130} saw {7200} <8799> (853) Benjamin {1144} with {854} them, he said {559} <8799> to the ruler of (834) (5921) his house, {1004} Bring {935} <8685> (853) [these] men [582] (376) home, {1004} and slay, {2873} {2874} <8800> and make ready; {3559} <8685> for (3588) [these] men [582] (376) shall dine {398} <8799> with (854) me at noon. {6672}

43:17 And the man {376} did {6213} <8799> as (834) Joseph {3130} bade; {559} <8804> and the man {376} brought {935} <8686> (853) the men [582] (376) into Joseph's {3130} house. {1004}

43:18 And the men [582] (376) were afraid, {3372} <8799> because (3588) they were brought {935} <8717> into Joseph's {3130} house; {1004} and they said, {559} <8799> Because [1697] of (5921) (1697) the money {3701} that was returned {7725} <8802> in our sacks {572} at the first time {8462} are we (587) brought in; {935} <8716> that he may seek occasion {1556} <8705> against (5921) us, and fall {5307} <8692> upon (5921) us, and take {3947} <8800> us for bondmen, {5650} and our asses. {2543}

43:19 And they came near {5066} <8799> to (413) the steward {376} (834) (5921) of Joseph's {3130} house, {1004} and they communed {1696} <8762> with (413) him at the door {6607} of the house, {1004}

43:20 And said, {559} <8799> O {994} sir, {113} we came indeed [3381] <8800> down {3381} <8804> at the first time {8462} to buy {7666} <8800> food: {400}

43:21 And it came to pass, (1961) when (3588) we came {935} <8804> to (413) the inn, {4411} that we opened {6605} <8799> (853) our sacks, {572} and, behold, (2009) [every] man's {376} money {3701} [was] in the mouth {6310} of his sack, {572} our money {3701} in full weight: {4948} and we have brought it again {7725} <8686> (853) in our hand. {3027}

43:22 And other {312} money {3701} have we brought down {3381} <8689> in our hands {3027} to buy {7666} <8800> food: {400} we cannot (3808) tell {3045} <8804> who (4310) put {7760} <8804> our money {3701} in our sacks. {572}

43:23 And he said, {559} <8799> Peace {7965} [be] to you, fear {3372} <8799> not: (408) your God, {430} and the God {430} of your father, {1} hath given {5414} <8804> you treasure {4301} in your sacks: {572} I had {935} <8804> your money. {3701} And he brought [3318] <8686> Simeon [8095] out (3318) (853) (8095) unto (413) them.

43:24 And the man {376} brought {935} <8686> (853) the men [582] (376) into Joseph's {3130} house, {1004} and gave {5414} <8799> [them] water, {4325} and they washed {7364} <8799> their feet; {7272} and he gave {5414} <8799> their asses {2543} provender. {4554}

43:25 And they made ready {3559} <8686> (853) the present {4503} against {5704} Joseph {3130} came {935} <8800> at noon: {6672} for (3588) they heard {8085} <8804> that (3588) they should eat {398} <8799> bread {3899} there. (8033)

43:26 ¶ And when Joseph {3130} came {935} <8799> home, {1004} they brought {935} <8686> him (853) the present {4503} which (834) [was] in their hand {3027} into the house, {1004} and bowed [7812] <8691> themselves (7812) to him to the earth. {776}

43:27 And he asked {7592} <8799> them of [their] welfare, {7965} and said, {559} <8799> [Is] your father {1} well, {7965} the old man {2205} of whom (834) ye spake? {559} <8804> [Is] he yet (5750) alive? {2416}

43:28 And they answered, {559} <8799> Thy servant {5650} our father {1} [is] in good health, {7965} he [is] yet (5750) alive. {2416} And they bowed down their heads, {6915} <8799> and made obeisance. {7812} <8691>

43:29 And he lifted up {5375} <8799> his eyes, {5869} and saw {7200} <8799> his brother {251} (853) Benjamin, {1144} his mother's {517} son, {1121} and said, {559} <8799> [Is] this (2088) your younger {6996} brother, {251} of whom (834) ye spake {559} <8804> unto (413) me? And he said, {559} <8799> God {430} be gracious {2603} <8799> unto thee, my son. {1121}

43:30 And Joseph {3130} made haste; {4116} <8762> for (3588) his bowels {7356} did yearn {3648} <8738> upon (413) his brother: {251} and he sought {1245} <8762> [where] to weep; {1058} <8800> and he entered [935] <8799> into (935) [his] chamber, {2315} and wept {1058} <8799> there. (8033)

43:31 And he washed {7364} <8799> his face, {6440} and went out, {3318} <8799> and refrained [662] <8691> himself, (662) and said, {559} <8799> Set on {7760} <8798> bread. {3899}

43:32 And they set on {7760} <8799> for him by himself, (905) and for them by themselves, (905) and for the Egyptians, {4713} which did eat {398} <8802> with (854) him, by themselves: (905) because (3588) the Egyptians {4713} might {3201} <8799> not (3808) eat {398} <8800> bread {3899} with (854) the Hebrews; {5680} for (3588) that (1931) [is] an abomination {8441} unto the Egyptians. {4714}

43:33 And they sat {3427} <8799> before (6440) him, [6440] the firstborn {1060} according to his birthright, {1062} and the youngest {6810} according to his youth: {6812} and the men [582] (376) marvelled {8539} <8799> one {376} at (413) another. {7453}

43:34 And he took {5375} <8799> [and sent] messes {4864} unto (413) them from (4480) (854) before (6440) him: [6440] but Benjamin's {1144} mess {4864} was five [2568] times [3027] so much as {7235} <8799> (4480) (4864) (2568) (3027) any (3605) of theirs. And they drank, {8354} <8799> and were merry {7937} <8799> with (5973) him.
