Chapter 19

1  Lot entertaineth two angels.  4  The vicious Sodomites are stricken with blindness.  12  Lot is sent for safety into the mountains.  18  He obtaineth leave to go into Zoar.  24  Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed.  26  Lot's wife is a pillar of salt.  30  Lot dwelleth in a cave.  31  The incestuous original of Moab and Ammon.

19:1 ¶ And there came {935} <8799> two {8147} angels {4397} to Sodom {5467} at even; {6153} and Lot {3876} sat {3427} <8802> in the gate {8179} of Sodom: {5467} and Lot {3876} seeing {7200} <8799> [them] rose up {6965} <8799> to meet {7125} <8800> them; and he bowed [7812] <8691> himself (7812) with his face {639} toward the ground; {776}

19:2 And he said, {559} <8799> Behold (2009) now, (4994) my lords, {113} turn in, {5493} <8798> I pray you, (4994) into (413) your servant's {5650} house, {1004} and tarry all night, {3885} <8798> and wash {7364} <8798> your feet, {7272} and ye shall rise up early, {7925} <8689> and go {1980} <8804> on your ways. {1870} And they said, {559} <8799> Nay; (3808) but (3588) we will abide [3885] <0> in the street [7339] all night. {3885} <8799> (7339)

19:3 And he pressed {6484} <8799> upon them greatly; {3966} and they turned in {5493} <8799> unto (413) him, and entered {935} <8799> into (413) his house; {1004} and he made {6213} <8799> them a feast, {4960} and did bake {644} <8804> unleavened bread, {4682} and they did eat. {398} <8799>

19:4 ¶ But before (2962) they lay down, {7901} <8799> the men [582] (376) of the city, {5892} [even] the men [582] (376) of Sodom, {5467} compassed {5437} <0> (5921) the house {1004} round, [5437] <8738> both old {2205} and young, {5288} (4480) all (3605) the people {5971} from every quarter: {7097} (4480)

19:5 And they called {7121} <8799> unto (413) Lot, {3876} and said {559} <8799> unto him, Where (346) [are] the men [582] (376) which (834) came in {935} <8804> to (413) thee this night? {3915} bring them out {3318} <8685> unto (413) us, that we may know {3045} <8799> them.

19:6 And Lot {3876} went out {3318} <8799> at the door {6607} unto (413) them, and shut {5462} <8804> the door {1817} after (310) him, [310]

19:7 And said, {559} <8799> I pray you, (4994) brethren, {251} do not so wickedly. {7489} <8686> (408)

19:8 Behold (2009) now, (4994) I have two {8147} daughters {1323} which (834) have not (3808) known {3045} <8804> man; {376} let me, I pray you, (4994) bring them out {3318} <8686> (853) unto (413) you, and do {6213} <8798> ye to them as [is] good {2896} in your eyes: {5869} only (7535) unto these {411} men [582] (376) do {6213} <8799> nothing; {408} {1697} for (3588) therefore (5921) (3651) came {935} <8804> they under the shadow {6738} of my roof. {6982}

19:9 And they said, {559} <8799> Stand {5066} <8798> back. {1973} And they said {559} <8799> [again], This one {259} [fellow] came in {935} <8804> to sojourn, {1481} <8800> and he will needs [8199] <8800> be a judge: {8199} <8799> now (6258) will we deal worse {7489} <8686> with thee, than (4480) with them. And they pressed {6484} <8799> sore {3966} upon the man, {376} [even] Lot, {3876} and came near {5066} <8799> to break {7665} <8800> the door. {1817}

19:10 But the men [582] (376) put forth {7971} <8799> (853) their hand, {3027} and pulled {935} <8686> (853) Lot {3876} into the house {1004} to (413) them, and shut [5462] <8804> to (5462) the door. {1817}

19:11 And they smote {5221} <8689> the men [582] (376) that (834) [were] at the door {6607} of the house {1004} with blindness, {5575} both small {6996} (4480) and great: {1419} so that they wearied [3811] <8799> themselves (3811) to find {4672} <8800> the door. {6607}

19:12 ¶ And the men [582] (376) said {559} <8799> unto (413) Lot, {3876} Hast thou here {6311} any {4310} besides? (5750) son in law, {2860} and thy sons, {1121} and thy daughters, {1323} and whatsoever {834} (3605) thou hast in the city, {5892} bring (3318) [them] out [3318] <8685> of (4480) this place: {4725}

19:13 For (3588) we {587} will destroy {7843} {853} <8688> this (2088) place, {4725} because (3588) the cry (6818) of them [6818] is waxen great {1431} <8804> (853) before [854] the face {6440} of the LORD; {3068} and the LORD {3068} hath sent {7971} <8762> us to destroy {7843} <8763> it.

19:14 And Lot {3876} went out, {3318} <8799> and spake {1696} <8762> unto (413) his sons in law, {2860} which married {3947} <8802> his daughters, {1323} and said, {559} <8799> Up, {6965} <8798> get you out {3318} <8798> of (4480) this (2088) place; {4725} for (3588) the LORD {3068} will destroy {7843} <8688> (853) this city. {5892} But he seemed (1961) as one that mocked {6711} <8764> unto {5869} his sons in law. {2860}

19:15 ¶ And when {3644} the morning {7837} arose, {5927} <8804> then the angels {4397} hastened {213} <8686> Lot, {3876} saying, {559} <8800> Arise, {6965} <8798> take {3947} <8798> (853) thy wife, {802} and thy two {8147} daughters, {1323} which are here; {4672} <8737> lest (6435) thou be consumed {5595} <8735> in the iniquity {5771} of the city. {5892}

19:16 And while he lingered, {4102} <8698> the men [582] (376) laid hold {2388} <8686> upon his hand, {3027} and upon the hand {3027} of his wife, {802} and upon the hand {3027} of his two {8147} daughters; {1323} the LORD {3068} being merciful {2551} unto (5921) him: and they brought him forth, {3318} <8686> and set (5117) him [3240] <8686> without {2351} (4480) the city. {5892}

19:17 ¶ And it came to pass, (1961) when they had brought them forth {3318} <8687> (853) abroad, {2351} that he said, {559} <8799> Escape {4422} <8734> for {5921} thy life; {5315} look {5027} <8686> not (408) behind (310) thee, [310] neither (408) stay {5975} <8799> thou in all (3605) the plain; {3603} escape {4422} <8734> to the mountain, {2022} lest (6435) thou be consumed. {5595} <8735>

19:18 And Lot {3876} said {559} <8799> unto (413) them, Oh, (4994) not (408) so, my Lord: [113] (136)

19:19 Behold (2009) now, (4994) thy servant {5650} hath found {4672} <8804> grace {2580} in thy sight, {5869} and thou hast magnified {1431} <8686> thy mercy, {2617} which (834) thou hast shewed {6213} <8804> unto (5973) me [5978] in saving {2421} <8687> (853) my life; {5315} and I (595) cannot {3201} <8799> (3808) escape {4422} <8736> to the mountain, {2022} lest (6435) some evil {7451} take {1692} <8799> me, and I die: {4191} <8804>

19:20 Behold (2009) now, (4994) this (2063) city {5892} [is] near {7138} to flee {5127} <8800> unto, (8033) and it {1931} [is] a little one: {4705} Oh, (4994) let me escape {4422} <8735> thither, (8033) ([is] it (1931) not (3808) a little one?) {4705} and my soul {5315} shall live. {2421} <8799>

19:21 And he said {559} <8799> unto (413) him, See, {2009} I have accepted {5375} <8804> (6440) thee [6440] concerning this (2088) thing {1697} also, (1571) that I will not (1115) overthrow {2015} <8800> (853) this city, {5892} for the which {834} thou hast spoken. {1696} <8765>

19:22 Haste {4116} <8761> thee, escape {4422} <8734> thither; (8033) for (3588) I cannot {3201} <8799> (3808) do {6213} <8800> any thing {1697} till (5704) thou be come {935} <8800> thither. (8033) Therefore (5921) (3651) the name {8034} of the city {5892} was called {7121} <8804> Zoar. {6820}

19:23 ¶ The sun {8121} was risen {3318} <8804> upon (5921) the earth {776} when Lot {3876} entered {935} <8804> into Zoar. {6820}

19:24 Then the LORD {3068} rained {4305} <8689> upon (5921) Sodom {5467} and upon (5921) Gomorrah {6017} brimstone {1614} and fire {784} from (4480) (854) the LORD {3068} out of (4480) heaven; {8064}

19:25 And he overthrew {2015} <8799> (853) those {411} cities, {5892} and all (3605) the plain, {3603} and all (3605) the inhabitants {3427} <8802> of the cities, {5892} and that which grew {6780} upon the ground. {127}

19:26 ¶ But his wife {802} looked (5027) back [5027] <8686> from behind (4480) (310) him, [310] and she became (1961) a pillar {5333} of salt. {4417}

19:27 ¶ And Abraham {85} gat up early {7925} <8686> in the morning {1242} to (413) the place {4725} where (834) (8033) he stood {5975} <8804> (853) before {6440} the LORD: {3068}

19:28 And he looked {8259} <8686> toward {6440} (5921) Sodom {5467} and Gomorrah, {6017} and toward {6440} (5921) all (3605) the land {776} of the plain, {3603} and beheld, {7200} <8799> and, lo, (2009) the smoke {7008} of the country {776} went up {5927} <8804> as the smoke {7008} of a furnace. {3536}

19:29 ¶ And it came to pass, (1961) when God {430} destroyed {7843} <8763> (853) the cities {5892} of the plain, {3603} that God {430} remembered {2142} <8799> (853) Abraham, {85} and sent {7971} <8762> (853) Lot {3876} out of the midst {8432} (4480) of the overthrow, {2018} when he overthrew {2015} <8800> (853) the cities {5892} in the which {2004} (834) Lot {3876} dwelt. {3427} <8804>

19:30 ¶ And Lot {3876} went up {5927} <8799> out of Zoar, {6820} (4480) and dwelt {3427} <8799> in the mountain, {2022} and his two {8147} daughters {1323} with (5973) him; for (3588) he feared {3372} <8804> to dwell {3427} <8800> in Zoar: {6820} and he dwelt {3427} <8799> in a cave, {4631} he (1931) and his two {8147} daughters. {1323}

19:31 And the firstborn {1067} said {559} <8799> unto (413) the younger, {6810} Our father {1} [is] old, {2204} <8804> and [there is] not (369) a man {376} in the earth {776} to come in {935} <8800> unto (5921) us after the manner {1870} of all (3605) the earth: {776}

19:32 Come, [3212] <8798> (1980) let us make [8248] <0> (853) our father {1} drink {8248} <8686> wine, {3196} and we will lie {7901} <8799> with (5973) him, that we may preserve {2421} <8762> seed {2233} of our father. {1} (4480)

19:33 And they made [8248] <0> (853) their father {1} drink {8248} <8686> wine {3196} that (1931) night: {3915} and the firstborn {1067} went in, {935} <8799> and lay {7901} <8799> with (854) her father; {1} and he perceived {3045} <8804> not (3808) when she lay down, {7901} <8800> nor when she arose. {6965} <8800>

19:34 And it came to pass (1961) on the morrow, {4283} (4480) that the firstborn {1067} said {559} <8799> unto (413) the younger, {6810} Behold, (2005) I lay {7901} <8804> yesternight {570} with (854) my father: {1} let us make him drink {8248} <8686> wine {3196} this night {3915} also; (1571) and go thou in, {935} <8798> [and] lie {7901} <8798> with (5973) him, that we may preserve {2421} <8762> seed {2233} of our father. {1} (4480)

19:35 And they made [8248] <0> (853) their father {1} drink {8248} <8686> wine {3196} that {1931} night {3915} also: (1571) and the younger {6810} arose, {6965} <8799> and lay {7901} <8799> with (5973) him; and he perceived {3045} <8804> not (3808) when she lay down, {7901} <8800> nor when she arose. {6965} <8800>

19:36 Thus were both {8147} the daughters {1323} of Lot {3876} with child {2029} <8799> by their father. {1} (4480)

19:37 And the firstborn {1067} bare {3205} <8799> a son, {1121} and called {7121} <8799> his name {8034} Moab: {4124} the same {1931} [is] the father {1} of the Moabites {4124} unto (5704) this day. {3117}

19:38 And the younger, {6810} she (1931) also (1571) bare {3205} <8804> a son, {1121} and called {7121} <8799> his name {8034} Benammi: {1151} the same (1931) [is] the father {1} of the children {1121} of Ammon {5983} unto (5704) this day. {3117}
