1  Isaac blesseth Jacob, and sendeth him to Padan-aram.  6  Esau marrieth Mahalath the daughter of Ismael.  10  The vision of Jacob's ladder.  18  The stone of Beth-el.  20  Jacob's vow.

28:1 ¶ And Isaac {3327} called {7121} <8799> (413) Jacob, {3290} and blessed {1288} <8762> him, and charged {6680} <8762> him, and said {559} <8799> unto him, Thou shalt not (3808) take {3947} <8799> a wife {802} of the daughters {1323} (4480) of Canaan. {3667}

28:2 Arise, {6965} <8798> go [3212] <8798> (1980) to Padanaram, {6307} to the house {1004} of Bethuel {1328} thy mother's {517} father; {1} and take {3947} <8798> thee a wife {802} from thence (4480) (8033) of the daughters {1323} (4480) of Laban {3837} thy mother's {517} brother. {251}

28:3 And God {410} Almighty {7706} bless {1288} <8762> thee, and make thee fruitful, {6509} <8686> and multiply {7235} <8686> thee, that thou mayest be (1961) a multitude {6951} of people; {5971}

28:4 And give {5414} <8799> thee (853) the blessing {1293} of Abraham, {85} to thee, and to thy seed {2233} with (854) thee; that thou mayest inherit {3423} <8800> (853) the land {776} wherein thou art a stranger, {4033} which (834) God {430} gave {5414} <8804> unto Abraham. {85}

28:5 And Isaac {3327} sent away {7971} <8799> (853) Jacob: {3290} and he went [3212] <8799> (1980) to Padanaram {6307} unto (413) Laban, {3837} son {1121} of Bethuel {1328} the Syrian, {761} the brother {251} of Rebekah, {7259} Jacob's {3290} and Esau's {6215} mother. {517}

28:6 ¶ When Esau {6215} saw {7200} <8799> that (3588) Isaac {3327} had blessed {1288} <8765> (853) Jacob, {3290} and sent him away {7971} <8765> (853) to Padanaram, {6307} to take {3947} <8800> him a wife {802} from thence; (4480) (8033) and that as he blessed {1288} <8763> him he gave him a charge, {6680} <8762> (5921) saying, {559} <8800> Thou shalt not (3808) take {3947} <8799> a wife {802} of the daughters {1323} (4480) of Canaan; {3667}

28:7 And that Jacob {3290} obeyed {8085} <8799> (413) his father {1} and his mother, {517} and was gone [3212] <8799> (1980) to Padanaram; {6307}

28:8 And Esau {6215} seeing {7200} <8799> that (3588) the daughters {1323} of Canaan {3667} pleased [5869] not {7451} (5869) Isaac {3327} his father; {1}

28:9 Then went [3212] <8799> (1980) Esau {6215} unto (413) Ishmael, {3458} and took {3947} <8799> unto (5921) the wives {802} which he had (853) Mahalath {4258} the daughter {1323} of Ishmael {3458} Abraham's {85} son, {1121} the sister {269} of Nebajoth, {5032} to be his wife. {802}

28:10 ¶ And Jacob {3290} went out {3318} <8799> from Beersheba, {884} (4480) and went [3212] <8799> (1980) toward Haran. {2771}

28:11 And he lighted {6293} <8799> upon a certain place, {4725} and tarried there all night, {3885} <8799> (8033) because (3588) the sun {8121} was set; {935} <8804> and he took {3947} <8799> of the stones {68} (4480) of that place, {4725} and put {7760} <8799> [them for] his pillows, {4763} and lay down {7901} <0> in that (1931) place {4725} to sleep. 28:12 And he dreamed, {2492} <8799> and behold (2009) a ladder {5551} set up {5324} <8716> on the earth, {776} and the top (7218) of it [7218] reached {5060} <8688> to heaven: {8064} and behold (2009) the angels {4397} of God {430} ascending {5927} <8802> and descending {3381} <8802> on it.

28:13 And, behold, (2009) the LORD {3068} stood {5324} <8737> above (5921) it, and said, {559} <8799> I (589) [am] the LORD {3068} God {430} of Abraham {85} thy father, {1} and the God {430} of Isaac: {3327} the land {776} whereon (834) (5921) thou (859) liest, {7901} <8802> to thee will I give (5414) it, [5414] <8799> and to thy seed; {2233}

28:14 And thy seed {2233} shall be (1961) as the dust {6083} of the earth, {776} and thou shalt spread abroad {6555} <8804> to the west, {3220} and to the east, {6924} and to the north, {6828} and to the south: {5045} and in thee and in thy seed {2233} shall all (3605) the families {4940} of the earth {127} be blessed. {1288} <8738>

28:15 And, behold, (2009) I (595) [am] with (5973) thee, and will keep {8104} <8804> thee in all (3605) [places] whither {834} thou goest, [3212] <8799> (1980) and will bring thee again {7725} <8689> into (413) this (2063) land; {127} for (3588) I will not (3808) leave {5800} <8799> thee, until {834} (5704) (518) I have done {6213} <8804> (853) [that] which (834) I have spoken {1696} <8765> to thee of.

28:16 ¶ And Jacob {3290} awaked {3364} <8799> out of his sleep, {8142} (4480) and he said, {559} <8799> Surely {403} the LORD {3068} is {3426} in this (2088) place; {4725} and I (595) knew {3045} <8804> [it] not. (3808)

28:17 And he was afraid, {3372} <8799> and said, {559} <8799> How (4100) dreadful {3372} <8737> [is] this (2088) place! {4725} this (2088) [is] none (369) other but (3588) (518) the house {1004} of God, {430} and this (2088) [is] the gate {8179} of heaven. {8064}

28:18 And Jacob {3290} rose up early {7925} <8686> in the morning, {1242} and took {3947} <8799> (853) the stone {68} that (834) he had put {7760} <8804> [for] his pillows, {4763} and set it up {7760} <8799> (853) [for] a pillar, {4676} and poured {3332} <8799> oil {8081} upon (5921) the top (7218) of it. [7218]

28:19 And he called {7121} <8799> (853) the name {8034} of that (1931) place {4725} Bethel: {1008} but {199} the name {8034} of that city {5892} [was called] Luz {3870} at the first. {7223}

28:20 And Jacob {3290} vowed {5087} <8799> a vow, {5088} saying, {559} <8800> If (518) God {430} will be (1961) with (5973) me, and will keep (8104) me [8104] <8804> in this (2088) way {1870} that (834) I (595) go, {1980} <8802> and will give {5414} <8804> me bread {3899} to eat, {398} <8800> and raiment {899} to put on, {3847} <8800>

28:21 So that I come again {7725} <8804> to (413) my father's {1} house {1004} in peace; {7965} then shall the LORD {3068} be (1961) my God: {430}

28:22 And this (2063) stone, {68} which (834) I have set {7760} <8804> [for] a pillar, {4676} shall be (1961) God's {430} house: {1004} and of all (3605) that (834) thou shalt give {5414} <8799> me I will surely [6237] <8763> give the tenth {6237} <8762> unto thee.
