Chapter 20

1  Pashur, smiting Jeremiah, receiveth a new name, and a fearful doom.  7  Jeremiah complaineth of contempt,  10  of treachery,  14  and of his birth.

        20:1 ¶ Now Pashur 6583 the son 1121 of Immer 564 the priest, 3548 who 1931x [was] also chief 6496y 5057x governor 5057y 6496x in the house 1004 of the LORD, 3068 heard 8085 8799z that 853x Jeremiah 3414 prophesied 5012 8738z 853x these 428x things. 1697

        20:2 Then Pashur 6583 smote 5221 8686z 853x Jeremiah 3414 the prophet, 5030 and put 5414 8799z him in 5921x the stocks 4115 that 834x [were] in the high 5945 gate 8179 of Benjamin, 1144 which 834x [was] by the house 1004 of the LORD. 3068

        20:3 And it came to pass 1961x on the morrow, 4283 4480x that Pashur 6583 brought forth 3318 8686z 853x Jeremiah 3414 out of 4480x the stocks. 4115 Then said 559 8799z Jeremiah 3414 unto 413x him, The LORD 3068 hath not 3808x called 7121 8804z thy name 8034 Pashur, 6583 but 3588x 518x Magormissabib. 4036

        20:4 For 3588x thus 3541x saith 559 8804z the LORD, 3068 Behold, 2009x I will make 5414 8802z thee a terror 4032 to thyself, and to all 3605x thy friends: 157 8802z and they shall fall 5307 8804z by the sword 2719 of their enemies, 341 8802z and thine eyes 5869 shall behold 7200 8802z [it]: and I will give 5414 8799z all 3605x Judah 3063 into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Babylon, 894 and he shall carry them captive 1540 8689z into Babylon, 894 and shall slay 5221 8689z them with the sword. 2719

        20:5 Moreover I will deliver 5414 8804z 853x all 3605x the strength 2633 of this 2063x city, 5892 and all 3605x the labours 3018 thereof, and all 3605x the precious things 3366 thereof, and all 3605x the treasures 214 of the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 will I give 5414 8799z into the hand 3027 of their enemies, 341 8802z which shall spoil 962 8804z them, and take 3947 8804z them, and carry 935 8689z them to Babylon. 894

        20:6 And thou, 859x Pashur, 6583 and all 3605x that dwell 3427 8802z in thine house 1004 shall go 3212y 8799z 1980x into captivity: 7628 and thou shalt come 935 8799z to Babylon, 894 and there 8033x thou shalt die, 4191 8799z and shalt be buried 6912 8735z there, 8033x thou, 859x and all 3605x thy friends, 157 8802z to whom 834x thou hast prophesied 5012 8738z lies. 8267

        20:7 ¶ O LORD, 3068 thou hast deceived 6601 8765z me, and I was deceived: 6601 8735z thou art stronger 2388 8804z than I, and hast prevailed: 3201 8799z I am 1961x in derision 7814 daily, 3117 3605x every one 3605x mocketh 3932 8802z me.

        20:8 For 3588x since 1767 4480x I spake, 1696 8762z I cried out, 2199 8799z I cried 7121 8799z violence 2555 and spoil; 7701 because 3588x the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 was made 1961x a reproach 2781 unto me, and a derision, 7047 daily. 3117 3605x

        20:9 Then I said, 559 8804z I will not 3808x make mention 2142 8799z of him, nor 3808x speak 1696 8762z any more 5750x in his name. 8034 But [his word] was 1961x in mine heart 3820 as a burning 1197 8802z fire 784 shut up 6113 8803z in my bones, 6106 and I was weary 3811 8738z with forbearing, 3557 8771z and I could 3201 8799z not 3808x [stay].

        20:10 ¶ For 3588x I heard 8085 8804z the defaming 1681 of many, 7227 fear 4032 on every side. 5439 4480x Report, 5046 8685z [say they], and we will report 5046 8686z it. All 3605x my familiars 582 7965 watched 8104 8802z for my halting, 6761 6763y 8676z [saying], Peradventure 194x he will be enticed, 6601 8792z and we shall prevail 3201 8799z against him, and we shall take 3947 8799z our revenge 5360 on 4480x him.

        20:11 But the LORD 3068 [is] with 854x me as a mighty 1368 terrible one: 6184 therefore 5921x 3651x my persecutors 7291 8802z shall stumble, 3782 8735z and they shall not 3808x prevail: 3201 8799z they shall be greatly 3966 ashamed; 954 8804z for 3588x they shall not 3808x prosper: 7919 8689z [their] everlasting 5769 confusion 3639 shall never 3808x be forgotten. 7911 8735z

        20:12 But, O LORD 3068 of hosts, 6635 that triest 974 8802z the righteous, 6662 [and] seest 7200 8802z the reins 3629 and the heart, 3820 let me see 7200 8799z thy vengeance 5360 on 4480x them: for 3588x unto 413x thee have I opened 1540 8765z 853x my cause. 7379

        20:13 Sing 7891 8798z unto the LORD, 3068 praise 1984 8761z ye 853x the LORD: 3068 for 3588x he hath delivered 5337 8689z 853x the soul 5315 of the poor 34 from the hand 3027 4480x of evildoers. 7489 8688z

        20:14 ¶ Cursed 779 8803z [be] the day 3117 wherein 834x I was born: 3205 8795z let not 408x the day 3117 wherein 834x my mother 517 bare 3205 8804z me be 1961x blessed. 1288 8803z

        20:15 Cursed 779 8803z [be] the man 376 who 834x brought tidings 1319 8765z to 853x my father, 1 saying, 559 8800z A man 2145 child 1121 is born 3205 8795z unto thee; making him very 8055y 8763z glad. 8055 8765z

        20:16 And let that 1931x man 376 be 1961x as the cities 5892 which 834x the LORD 3068 overthrew, 2015 8804z and repented 5162 8738z not: 3808x and let him hear 8085 8804z the cry 2201 in the morning, 1242 and the shouting 8643 at noontide; 6256 6672

        20:17 Because 834x he slew 4191 8790z me not 3808x from the womb; 7358 4480x or that my mother 517 might have been 1961x my grave, 6913 and her womb 7358 [to be] always 5769 great 2030 [with me].

        20:18 Wherefore 4100x came I forth 3318 8804z out of the womb 7358 4480x to see 7200 8800z labour 5999 and sorrow, 3015 that my days 3117 should be consumed 3615 8799z with shame? 1322
