with blindness:
The word sanverim, rendered "blindness," and which occurs only here, and in "And when they came downª° to¹ him, Elishaª prayedª° unto¹ the LORD,ª and said,ª° Smiteª°¹ this¹ people,ª I pray thee,¹ with blindness.ª And he smoteª° them with blindnessª according to the wordª of Elisha.ª" {2Kg 6:18}, is supposed to denote dazzlings, deceptions, or confusions of sight from excessive light; being derived by Schultens, who is followed by Parkhurst, from the Arabic sana, to pour forth, diffuse, and nor, light. Dr. Geddes, to the same purpose, thinks it is compounded of the Arabic sana, which signifies a flash, and or, light. The Targums, in both places where it occurs, render it by eruptions, or flashes of light, or as Mercer, in Robertson, explains the Chaldee word, irradiations. "And when they came downª° to¹ him, Elishaª prayedª° unto¹ the LORD,ª and said,ª° Smiteª°¹ this¹ people,ª I pray thee,¹ with blindness.ª And he smoteª° them with blindnessª according to the wordª of Elisha.ª" {2Kg 6:18} + "Andª now,ª behold,ª° the handª of the¹ Lordª [is] uponª thee,ª andª thou shalt beª° blind,ª notª seeingª° the¹ sunª forª a season.ª Andª immediatelyª there fellª° onª himª a mistª andª a darkness;ª andª he went aboutª° seekingª° some to lead him by the hand.ª" {Act 13:11}
that they:
"The labourª of the foolishª weariethª° every one of them, because¹ he knowethª° not¹ how to go²°¹ to¹ the city.ª" {Ecc 10:15} + "Thou art weariedª° in the greatnessª of thy way;ª [yet] saidstª° thou not,¹ There is no hope:ª° thou hast foundª° the lifeª of thine hand;ª therefore¹¹ thou wast not¹ grieved.ª°" {Isa 57:10} + "Why¹ gaddest¹ thou about²° so muchª to changeª°¹ thy way?ª thou also¹ shalt be ashamedª° of Egypt,ª¹ as¹ thou wast ashamedª° of Assyria.ª¹" {Jer 2:36}
