his hand:
or, as the Greek has it, "his hands", Menachem gives reason why it is written hand, to signify the right hand, because that was lifted up higher than the left. The lifting up of the hand was a gesture used in speaking, and signifying any weighty thing, "Thus¹ saithª° the Lordª GOD,ª Behold,¹ I will lift upª° mine handª to¹ the Gentiles,ª and set upª° my standardª to¹ the people:ª and they shall bringª° thy sonsª in [their] arms,ª and thy daughtersª shall be carriedª° upon¹ [their] shoulders.ª" {Isa 49:22}; and particularly in swearing, "And Abramª saidª° to¹ the kingª of Sodom,ª I have lift upª° mine handª unto¹ the LORD,ª the most highª God,ª the possessorª° of heavenª and earth,ª" {Gen 14:22}; praying, "Hearª° the voiceª of my supplications,ª when I cryª° unto¹ thee, when I lift upª° my handsª toward¹ thy holyª oracle.ª" {Psa 28:2}; and blessing, either of God, "Lift upª° your handsª [in] the sanctuary,ª and blessª°¹ the LORD.ª" {Psa 134:2}, or of men, as in this place. Paul, speaking of prayer, uses the phrase, "lifting up holy hands;" as also David: "Let the lifting up of my hands be as the evening sacrifice." "And Melchizedekª kingª of Salemª brought forthª° breadª and wine:ª and he¹ [was] the priestª of the most highª God.ª ... And blessedª° be the most highª God,ª which¹ hath deliveredª° thine enemiesª into thy hand.ª And he gaveª° him tithesª of all.¹¹" {Gen 14:18-20} + "Speakª° unto¹ Aaronª and unto¹ his sons,ª saying,ª° On this wiseª ye shall blessª°¹ the childrenª of Israel,ª sayingª° unto them, ... And they shall putª°¹ my nameª upon¹ the childrenª of Israel;ª and I¹ will blessª° them." {Num 6:23-27} + "At that¹ timeª the LORDª separatedª°¹ the tribeª of Levi,ª to bearª°¹ the arkª of the covenantª of the LORD,ª to standª° beforeª the LORDª to ministerª° unto him, and to blessª° in his name,ª unto¹ this¹ day.ª" {Deu 10:8} + "And the priestsª the sonsª of Leviª shall come near;ª° for¹ them the LORDª thy Godª hath chosenª° to ministerª° unto him, and to blessª° in the nameª of the LORD;ª and by¹ their wordª shall every¹ controversyª and every¹ strokeª be¹ [tried]:" {Deu 21:5} + "And he stood,ª° and blessedª°¹ all¹ the congregationª of Israelª with a loudª voice,ª saying,ª°" {1Kg 8:55} + "The sonsª of Amram;ª Aaronª and Moses:ª and Aaronª was separated,ª° that he should sanctifyª° the most² holy things,ª he¹ and his sonsª for² ever,ª¹ to burn incenseª° beforeª the LORD,ª to ministerª° unto him, and to blessª° in his nameª for² ever.ª¹" {1Ch 23:13} + "And the kingª turnedª°¹ his face,ª and blessedª°¹ the whole¹ congregationª of Israel:ª and all¹ the congregationª of Israelª stood.ª°" {2Ch 6:3} + "His nameª shall endure¹ for ever:ª his nameª shall be continuedª°°° as long¹ as² the sun:ª and [men] shall be blessedª° in him: all¹ nationsª shall call him blessed.ª°" {Psa 72:17} + "Andª he took²° them² up in his arms,ª°¹ putª° [his] handsª uponª them,ª and blessedª° them.ª" {Mrk 10:16} + "Andª he ledª° themª outª as far asª toª Bethany,ª andª he lifted upª° his²¹ hands,ª and blessedª° them.ª" {Lke 24:50} + "Unto youª firstª God,ª having raised upª° his²¹ Sonª Jesus,ª sentª° himª to blessª° you,ª in² turning awayª° every oneª of you² fromª his¹ iniquities.ª" {Act 3:26} + "The¹ graceª of the¹ Lordª Jesusª Christ,ª andª the¹ loveª of God,ª andª the¹ communionª of the¹ Holyª Ghost,ª [be] withª youª all.ª Amen.ª [[[The second² [epistle] to² the Corinthians² was written²° from² Philippi,² [a city] of Macedonia,² by² Titus² and² Lucas.]]]²" {2Co 13:14} + "Butª he whose descent is²° not² countedª°¹ fromª themª received tithesª° of Abraham,ª andª blessedª° him that hadª° the¹ promises.ª ... Andª withoutª allª contradictionª the¹ lessª is blessedª° ofª the¹ better.ª" {Hbr 7:6-7} + "Notª renderingª° evilª forª evil,ª orª railingª forª railing:ª butª contrariwiseª blessing;²¹ knowingª° thatª ye are²° thereuntoªª called,ª° thatª ye should inheritª° a blessing.²°¹" {1Pe 3:9}
