returned unto her father's house:
A widow in Bengal not unfrequently returns to her father's house on the death of her husband. The union between her and her own family is never so dissolved as among European nations. "Then saidª ° Judahª to Tamarª his daughter in law,ª Remainª ° a widowª at thy father'sª house,ª till¹ Shelahª my sonª be grown:ª ° for¹ he said,ª ° Lest peradventure¹ he¹ dieª ° also,¹ as his brethrenª [did]. And Tamarª went² °¹ and dweltª ° in her father'sª house.ª" {Gen 38:11}
