{Numbers 21:3} And the LORD 3068 hearkened 8085 z8799 to the voice 6963 of Israel, 3478 and delivered up 5414 z8799 x853 the Canaanites; 3669 and they utterly destroyed 2763 z8686 them and their cities: 5892 and he called 7121 z8799 the name 8034 of the place 4725 Hormah. 2767

hearkened:
"LORD,ª thou hast heardª ° the desireª of the humble:ª thou wilt prepareª ° their heart,ª thou wilt cause thine earª to hear:ª °" {Psa 10:17} + "He shall call² ° upon¹ me, and I will answerª ° him: I¹ [will be] with¹ him in trouble;ª I will deliverª ° him, and honourª ° him." {Psa 91:15} + "He will regardª °¹ the prayerª of the destitute,ª and not¹ despiseª °¹ their prayer.ª" {Psa 102:17}

and they utterly:
Wyyacharem, rather with the LXX και ανεθεματισεν, "and they anathematised, or devoted them to destruction;" for it is certain that these Canaanites and Arad were not utterly destroyed till the time of Joshua ("The kingª of Hormah,ª one;ª the kingª of Arad,ª one;ª" {Jsh 12:14}).

the name:
"Then the Amalekitesª came down,ª ° and the Canaanitesª which dweltª ° in that¹ hill,ª and smoteª ° them, and discomfitedª ° them, [even] unto¹ Hormah.ª" {Num 14:45} + "And the Amorites,ª which dweltª ° in that¹ mountain,ª came outª ° againstª ° you, and chasedª ° you, as¹ beesª do,ª ° and destroyedª ° you in Seir,ª [even] unto¹ Hormah.ª" {Deu 1:44} + "And to [them] which¹ [were] in Hormah,ª and to [them] which¹ [were] in Chorashan,ª and to [them] which¹ [were] in Athach,ª" {1Sm 30:30} Hormah, that is, utter destruction. Chormah, rather a devoting to destruction, so LXX Αναθεμα, and Tremellius, devotio sive anathema.
