parable:
The word mashal, which as a verb is to rule, have authority, and also to compare, as a noun signifies whatever is expressed in parabolic or figurative language. All these oracular speeches of Balaam are in hemistich metre in the original. They are highly dignified and sublime; and may be considered as immediate poetic productions of the Spirit of God ("And Balaamª lifted upª°¹ his eyes,ª and he sawª°¹ Israelª abidingª° [in his tents] according to their tribes;ª and the spiritª of Godª came¹ upon¹ him." {Num 24:2}).

Come:
"Come²°¹ now¹ therefore, I pray thee,¹ curseª° me¹ this¹ people;ª for¹ they¹ [are] too mighty² for¹¹ me: peradventure¹ I shall prevail,ª° [that] we may smiteª° them, and [that] I may drive them outª° of¹ the land:ª for¹ I wotª°¹ that he whom¹ thou blessestª° [is] blessed,ª° and he whom¹ thou cursestª° is cursed.ª°" {Num 22:6} + "Behold,¹ [there is] a peopleª come outª° of Egypt,ª¹ which coverethª°¹ the faceª of the earth:ª come²°¹ now,¹ curseª° me them; peradventure¹ I shall be ableª° to overcomeª° them, and drive them out.ª°" {Num 22:11} + "For¹ I will promote²° thee unto very² great²° honour,ª°¹ and I will doª° whatsoever¹¹ thou sayestª° unto¹ me: come²°¹ therefore, I pray thee,¹ curseª° me¹ this¹ people.ª" {Num 22:17} + "As the birdª by wandering,ª° as the swallowª by flying,ª° so¹ the curseª causelessª shall not¹ come.ª°" {Prv 26:2}
defy Israel:
"And the Philistineª said,ª° I¹ defyª°¹ the armiesª of Israelª this¹ day;ª giveª° me a man,ª that we may fightª° together.ª" {1Sm 17:10} + "And the menª of Israelª said,ª° Have ye seenª° this¹ manª that is come up?ª° surely¹ to defyª°¹ Israelª is he come up:ª° and it shall be,¹ [that] the manª who¹ killethª° him, the kingª will enrichª° him with greatª riches,ª and will giveª° him his daughter,ª and makeª° his father'sª houseª freeª in Israel.ª ... And Davidª spakeª° to¹ the men²¹ that stoodª° by¹ him, saying,ª° What¹ shall be doneª° to the manª that¹ killethª°¹ thisª Philistine,ª and taketh awayª° the reproachª from¹¹ Israel?ª for¹ who¹ [is] this¹ uncircumcisedª Philistine,ª that¹ he should defyª° the armiesª of the livingª God?ª" {1Sm 17:25-26} + "Thy servantª slewª° both¹¹ the lionª and¹ the bear:ª and this¹ uncircumcisedª Philistineª shall be¹ as oneª of¹ them, seeing¹ he hath defiedª° the armiesª of the livingª God.ª" {1Sm 17:36} + "Then saidª° Davidª to¹ the Philistine,ª Thou¹ comestª° to¹ me with a sword,ª and with a spear,ª and with a shield:ª but I¹ comeª° to¹ thee in the nameª of the LORDª of hosts,ª the Godª of the armiesª of Israel,ª whom¹ thou hast defied.ª°" {1Sm 17:45} + "And when he defiedª°¹ Israel,ª Jonathanª the sonª of Shimeaª the brotherª of Davidª slewª° him." {2Sm 21:21} + "And afterª him [was] Eleazarª the sonª of Dodoª the Ahohite,ª¹ [one] of the threeª mighty menª with¹ David,ª when they defiedª° the Philistinesª [that] were there¹ gathered togetherª° to battle,ª and the menª of Israelª were gone away:ª°" {2Sm 23:9}
