Distress not the Moabites:
or, Use no hostility against Moab, "And Moabª saidª ° unto¹ the eldersª of Midian,ª Now¹ shall this companyª lick upª °¹ all¹ [that are] round aboutª us, as the oxª licketh upª °¹ the grassª of the field.ª And Balakª the sonª of Zipporª [was] kingª of the Moabitesª at that¹ time.ª" {Num 22:4} + "Then Israelª sentª ° messengersª unto¹ the kingª of Edom,ª saying,ª ° Let me, I pray thee,¹ pass¹ through² ° thy land:ª but the kingª of Edomª would not¹ hearkenª ° [thereto]. Ar:
Ar was situated south of the Arnon; and was called by the Greek writers Areopolis, and thought by them to be so named because the inhabitants worshipped Αρης, or Mars. St. Jerome says that it was destroyed by an earthquake when he was an infant. Burckhardt supposes that the ruins of a small castle called Mehatet el Hadj, may be the site of this ancient city. "Meddleª ° not¹ with them; for¹ I will not¹ giveª ° you of their land,ª ¹ no, not so much¹ as a foot² breadth;ª ª ¹ because¹ I have givenª °¹ mountª Seirª unto Esauª [for] a possession.ª" {Deu 2:5} + "And at the streamª of the brooksª that¹ goeth downª ° to the dwelling² °¹ of Ar,ª and liethª ° upon the borderª of Moab.ª" {Num 21:15} + "For¹ there is a fireª gone outª ° of Heshbon,ª ¹ a flameª from the cityª ¹ of Sihon:ª it hath consumedª ° Arª of Moab,ª [and] the lords¹ of the high places² ¹ of Arnon.ª" {Num 21:28}

the children:
"And [when] thou comest nighª ° over againstª the childrenª of Ammon,ª distressª ° them not,¹ nor¹ meddleª ° with them: for¹ I will not¹ giveª ° thee of the landª ¹ of the childrenª of Ammonª [any] possession;ª because¹ I have givenª ° it unto the childrenª of Lotª [for] a possession.ª" {Deu 2:19} + "Thus were bothª the daughtersª of Lotª with childª ° by their father.ª ¹ ...
