This city was situated somewhere in the vicinity, west of the lake Asphaltites; and supposed by some to be the same as Zoar.

Engedi:
En-gedi, or Hazazon-Tamar, was situated, according to Eusebius, in the desert west of the Dead Sea. Josephus says it was 300 stadia from Jerusalem, and not far from the lake Asphaltites; and consequently it could not have been far from Jericho and the mouth of the Jordan. It was celebrated for the abundance of its palm-trees. "And Davidª went upª ° from thence,¹ ¹ and dweltª ° in strong holdsª at Engedi.ª" {1Sm 23:29} + "Then there cameª ° some that toldª ° Jehoshaphat,ª saying,ª ° There comethª ° a greatª multitudeª against¹ thee from beyondª ¹ the seaª on this side Syria;ª ¹ and, behold,¹ they [be] in Hazazontamar,ª which¹ [is] Engedi.ª" {2Ch 20:2}
