had sworn:
"Then all¹ the childrenª of Israelª went out,ª ° and the congregationª was gathered togetherª ° as oneª man,ª from Danª ¹ even to¹ Beersheba,ª with the landª of Gilead,ª unto¹ the LORDª in Mizpeh.ª" {Jdg 20:1} + "And all¹ the peopleª aroseª ° as oneª man,ª saying,ª ° We will not¹ anyª [of us] go² °¹ to his tent,ª neither¹ will we anyª [of us] turnª ° into his house.ª" {Jdg 20:8} + "And we will takeª ° tenª men² ¹ of an hundredª throughout all¹ the tribesª of Israel,ª and an hundredª of a thousand,ª and a thousandª out of ten thousand,ª to fetchª ° victualª for the people,ª that they may do,ª ° when they comeª ° to Gibeahª of Benjamin,ª according to all¹ the follyª that¹ they have wroughtª ° in Israel.ª" {Jdg 20:10} + "And thou shalt swear,ª ° The LORDª liveth,ª in truth,ª in judgment,ª and in righteousness;ª and the nationsª shall bless² ° themselves¹ in him, and in him shall they glory.ª °" {Jer 4:2}

his daughter:
"Take heedª ° to thyself, lest¹ thou makeª ° a covenantª with the inhabitantsª ° of the landª whither¹ ¹ thou¹ goest,ª ° lest¹ it be¹ for a snareª in the midstª of thee: ... And thou takeª ° of their daughtersª ¹ unto thy sons,ª and their daughtersª go a whoringª ° afterª their gods,ª and make² °¹ thy sonsª go a whoringª ° afterª their gods.ª" {Exd 34:12-16} + "And when the LORDª thy Godª shall deliverª ° them beforeª thee; thou shalt smiteª ° them, [and] utterly² ° destroyª ° them; thou shalt makeª ° no¹ covenantª with them, nor¹ shew mercyª ° unto them: ...
