Elimelech:
The Rabbins say, that Elimelech was the son of Salmon, who married Rahab; and that Naomi was his niece.

Naomi:
"And she saidª ° unto¹ them, Callª ° me not¹ Naomi,ª callª ° me Mara:ª for¹ the Almightyª hath dealt very² bitterlyª °¹ with me." {Rth 1:20}

Mahlon:
It is imagined, and not without probability, that Mahlon and Chilion are the same with Joash and Saraph, mentioned in "And Jokim,ª and the men² ¹ of Chozeba,ª and Joash,ª and Saraph,ª who¹ had the dominionª ° in Moab,ª and Jashubilehem.ª And [these are] ancientª things.ª" {1Ch 4:22}.

Ephrathites:
"And Rachelª died,ª ° and was buriedª ° in the wayª to Ephrath,ª which¹ [is] Bethlehem.ª" {Gen 35:19} + "Now there was¹ a certainª manª of¹ Ramathaimzophim,ª of mountª ¹ Ephraim,ª and his nameª [was] Elkanah,ª the sonª of Jeroham,ª the sonª of Elihu,ª the sonª of Tohu,ª the sonª of Zuph,ª an Ephrathite:ª ¹" {1Sm 1:1} + "For Israelª and the Philistinesª had put the battle in array,ª ° armyª againstª ° army.ª" {1Sm 17:21} + "But thou,¹ Bethlehemª Ephratah,ª [though] thou be¹ littleª among the thousandsª of Judah,ª [yet] out of¹ thee shall he come forthª ° unto me [that is] to be¹ rulerª ° in Israel;ª whose goings forthª [have been] from of old,ª ¹ from everlasting.ª ª ¹" {Mic 5:2}
