or, half a furrow of an acre of land, The original is obscure and variously understood; but it is probably a proverbial expression for a small space. "And that firstª slaughter,ª which¹ Jonathan² ¹ and his armourbearerª ª ° made,ª ° was¹ about twentyª men,ª within as it were an halfª acreª of land,ª [which] a yokeª [of oxen might plow]." {1Sm 14:14}
