uncovered:
We are only to understand by this expression that David had divested himself of his royal robes, in order to appear humble before the Lord, by assimilating himself to the condition of one of the priests or Levites. For we find that he was "girded with a linen ephod;" and consequently no part of his body was exposed, having only put off his outer garments. The terms uncovered or naked frequently mean no more than this in Scripture. "And Davidª dancedª° beforeª the LORDª with all¹ [his] might;ª and Davidª [was] girdedª° with a linenª ephod.ª" {2Sm 6:14} + "And as¹ the arkª of the LORDª cameª° into the cityª of David,ª Michalª Saul'sª daughterª lookedª° through¹ a window,ª and sawª°¹ kingª Davidª leapingª° and dancingª° beforeª the LORD;ª and she despisedª° him in her heart.ª" {2Sm 6:16} + "And he went²°¹ thither¹ to¹ Naiothª in Ramah:ª and the Spiritª of Godª was¹ upon¹ him¹ also,¹ and he went²° on,ª° and prophesied,ª° until¹ he cameª° to Naiothª in Ramah.ª ...
