- It was not right to offer sacrifices in any place but where the tabernacle and ark were; and wherever they were, whether on a high place or a plain, sacrifices might be lawfully offered, previously to building of the temple. The tabernacle was now at Gibeon ("So Solomon,ª and all¹ the congregationª with¹ him, went²°¹ to the high placeª that¹ [was] at Gibeon;ª for¹ there¹ was¹ the tabernacleª of the congregationª of God,ª which¹ Mosesª the servantª of the LORDª had madeª° in the wilderness.ª" {2Ch 1:3}), which was therefore called the great high place; whither we find Solomon, without censure, repaired to sacrifice.
