{2 Kings 5:18} In this x2088 thing 1697 the LORD 3068 pardon 5545 z8799 thy servant, 5650 [that] when my master 113 goeth 935 z8800 into the house 1004 of Rimmon 7417 to worship 7812 z8692 there, x8033 and he x1931 leaneth 8172 z8737 on x5921 my hand, 3027 and I bow y7812 z8694 myself x7812 in the house 1004 of Rimmon: 7417 when I bow down y7812 z8692 myself x7812 in the house 1004 of Rimmon, 7417 the LORD 3068 pardon 5545 z8799 thy servant 5650 in this x2088 thing. 1697
and he leaneth:
This verse should probably, as many learned men have supposed, be read in the past, and not in the future tense: "In this thing the Lord pardon thy servant, that when my master went into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaned on my hand, and I worshipped in the house of Rimmon; in that I have worshipped in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon thy servant in this thing." Rimmon is supposed by Selden to the same with Elion, a god of the Phoenicians, borrowed undoubtedly from the Elyon of the Hebrews, one of the names of God. "Then a lordª on¹ whose¹ handª the kingª leanedª° answeredª°¹ the manª of God,ª and said,ª° Behold,¹ [if] the LORDª would makeª° windowsª in heaven,ª might this¹ thingª be?¹ And he said,ª° Behold,¹ thou shalt seeª° [it] with thine eyes,ª but shalt not¹ eatª° thereof.¹¹" {2Kg 7:2} + "And the kingª appointedª°¹ the lordª on¹ whose¹ handª he leanedª° to have the charge of¹ the gate:ª and the peopleª trode²° upon¹ him in the gate,ª and he died,ª° as¹ the manª of Godª had said,ª° who¹ spakeª° when the kingª came downª° to¹ him." {2Kg 7:17}
and I bow:
"With¹ whom the LORDª had madeª° a covenant,ª and chargedª° them, saying,ª° Ye shall not¹ fearª° otherª gods,ª nor¹ bow²° yourselves¹ to them, nor¹ serveª° them, nor¹ sacrificeª° to them:" {2Kg 17:35} + "Thou shalt not¹ bow down²° thyself¹ to them, nor¹ serveª° them: for¹ I¹ the LORDª thy Godª [am] a jealousª God,ª visitingª° the iniquityª of the fathersª upon¹ the childrenª unto¹ the thirdª and fourthª [generation] of them that hateª° me;" {Exd 20:5} + "Yet I have leftª° [me] sevenª thousandª in Israel,ª all¹ the kneesª which¹ have not¹ bowedª° unto Baal,ª and every¹ mouthª which¹ hath not¹ kissedª° him." {1Kg 19:18}
the LORD[YHWH] pardon:
"For¹ a multitudeª of the people,ª [even] manyª of Ephraim,ª¹ and Manasseh,ª Issachar,ª and Zebulun,ª had notª cleansed²° themselves,¹ yet¹ did they eatª°¹ the passoverª otherwise¹ than it was written.ª° But¹ Hezekiahª prayedª° for¹ them, saying,ª° The goodª LORDª pardonª° every one¹ ... [That] preparethª° his heartª to seekª° God,ª the LORDª Godª of his fathers,ª though [he be] not¹ [cleansed] according to the purificationª of the sanctuary.ª" {2Ch 30:18-19} + "In those¹ days,ª and in that¹ time,ª saithª° the LORD,ª¹ the iniquityª of Israelª shall be sought for,ª° and [there shall be] none;¹ and the sinsª of Judah,ª and they shall not¹ be found:ª° for¹ I will pardonª° them whom¹ I reserve.ª°" {Jer 50:20}
