Bethzur:
Beth-zur was situated in the tribe of Judah, twenty miles south from Jerusalem, towards Hebron, according to Eusebius. It was fortified by Rehoboam ("And Bethzur,ª and Shoco,ª and Adullam,ª" {2Ch 11:7}) and was a fortress of great consequence, principally in the time of the Maccabees. 1 Maccabees 4:28; "Meraiothª begatª °¹ Amariah,ª and Amariahª begatª °¹ Ahitub,ª" {1Ch 6:7}, etc. "Halhul,ª Bethzur,ª and Gedor,ª" {Jsh 15:58}
