{1 Chronicles 26:16} To Shuppim 8206 and Hosah 2621 [the lot came forth] westward, 4628 with x5973 the gate 8179 Shallecheth, 7996 by the causeway 4546 of the going up, 5927 z8802 ward 4929 against 5980 ward. 4929

Hosah:
"Also Hosah,ª of¹ the childrenª of Merari,ª had sons;ª Simriª the chief,ª (for¹ [though] he was¹ not¹ the firstborn,ª yet his fatherª madeª ° him the chief;)ª ... Hilkiahª the second,ª Tebaliahª the third,ª Zechariahª the fourth:ª all¹ the sonsª and brethrenª of Hosahª [were] thirteen.ª ª" {1Ch 26:10-11}

Shallecheth:
That is, ejection; probably the gate through which all the filth which from time to time might accumulate in the temple and its courts, was cast out.

causeway:
"And the meatª of his table,ª and the sittingª of his servants,ª and the attendanceª of his ministers,ª ° and their apparel,ª and his cupbearers,² °¹ and his ascentª by which¹ he went upª ° unto the houseª of the LORD;ª there was¹ no¹ more¹ spiritª in her." {1Kg 10:5} + "And the meatª of his table,ª and the sittingª of his servants,ª and the attendanceª of his ministers,ª ° and their apparel;ª his cupbearers² °¹ also, and their apparel;ª and his ascentª by which¹ he went upª ° into the houseª of the LORD;ª there was¹ no¹ more¹ spiritª in her." {2Ch 9:4}

ward against ward:
That is, their stations were opposite to each other; as the north to the south, and the east to the west. "Among these¹ [were] the divisionsª of the porters,ª [even] among the chiefª men,ª [having] wardsª one against² another,ª ¹ to ministerª ° in the houseª of the LORD.ª" {1Ch 26:12} + "And they castª ° lots,ª wardª againstª [ward], as well the smallª as the great,ª the teacherª ° as¹ the scholar.ª" {1Ch 25:8} + "And the chiefª of the Levites:ª Hashabiah,ª Sherebiah,ª and Jeshuaª the sonª of Kadmiel,ª with their brethrenª over against¹ them, to praiseª ° [and] to give thanks,ª ° according to the commandmentª of Davidª the manª of God,ª wardª over againstª ward.ª" {Neh 12:24}
