So didst thou getª° thee a name,ª as [it is] this¹ day.ª" {Neh 9:10} + "And testifiedstª° against them, that thou mightest bring them againª° unto¹ thy law:ª yet they¹ dealt proudly,ª° and hearkenedª° not¹ unto thy commandments,ª but sinnedª° against thy judgments,ª (which¹ if a manª do,ª° he shall liveª° in them;) and withdrewªª°° the shoulder,ª and hardenedª° their neck,ª and would not¹ hear.ª°" {Neh 9:29} + "And the LORDª saidª° unto¹ Moses,ª I have seenª°¹ this¹ people,ª and, behold,¹ it¹ [is] a stiffneckedªª people:ª" {Exd 32:9} + "Understandª° therefore, that¹ the LORDª thy Godª givethª° thee not¹¹ this¹ goodª landª to possessª° it for thy righteousness;ª for¹ thou¹ [art] a stiffneckedªª people.ª" {Deu 9:6} + "Furthermore the LORDª spakeª° unto¹ me, saying,ª° I have seenª°¹ this¹ people,ª and, behold,¹ it¹ [is] a stiffneckedªª people:ª" {Deu 9:13} + "Likewise when the LORDª sentª° you from Kadeshbarnea,ª¹ saying,ª° Go upª° and possessª°¹ the landª which¹ I have givenª° you; then ye rebelled²° against¹¹ the commandmentª of the LORDª your God,ª and ye believedª° him not,¹ nor¹ hearkenedª° to his voice.ª ... So he fedª° them according to the integrityª of his heart;ª and guidedª° them by the skilfulnessª of his hands.ª" {Psa 78:8-72} + "We have sinnedª° with¹ our fathers,ª we have committed iniquity,ª° we have done wickedly.ª°" {Psa 106:6} + "But they¹ rebelled,ª° and vexedª°¹ his holyª Spirit:ª therefore he was turnedª° to be their enemy,ª° [and] he¹ foughtª° against them." {Isa 63:10} + "O generation,ª seeª° ye¹ the wordª of the LORD.ª Have I been¹ a wildernessª unto Israel?ª a landª of darkness?ª wherefore¹ sayª° my people,ª We are lords;ª° we will comeª° no¹ more¹ unto¹ thee?" {Jer 2:31} + "Ye stiffneckedª andª uncircumcisedª in heartª andª ears,ª yeª do²° alwaysª resistª° the¹ Holyª Ghost:ª asª yourª fathersª [did], soª [do] ye.ª" {Act 7:51}
hardened:
"For¹ I¹ knowª°¹ thy rebellion,ª and thy stiffª neck:ª behold,¹ while I am yet¹ aliveª with¹ you this day,ª ye have been¹ rebelliousª° against¹ the LORD;ª and how¹ much more¹ afterª my death?ª" {Deu 31:27} + "Notwithstanding they would not¹ hear,ª° but hardenedª°¹ their necks,ª like to the neckª of their fathers,ª that¹ did not¹ believeª° in the LORDª their God.ª" {2Kg 17:14} + "Now¹ be ye not stiffnecked,ªª°¹ as your fathersª [were, but] yieldª°¹ yourselves² unto the LORD,ª and enterª° into his sanctuary,ª which¹ he hath sanctifiedª° for ever:ª and serveª°¹ the LORDª your God,ª that the fiercenessª of his wrathª may turn awayª° from¹ you." {2Ch 30:8} + "And he also¹ rebelledª° against kingª Nebuchadnezzar,ª who¹ had made him swearª° by God:ª but he stiffenedª°¹ his neck,ª and hardenedª°¹ his heartª from turningª°¹ unto¹ the LORDª Godª of Israel.ª" {2Ch 36:13} + "Hardenª° not¹ your heart,ª as in the provocation,ª [and] as [in] the dayª of temptationª in the wilderness:ª ... The word of God they heard, but they gave no heed to God's commandments, and the works of God they saw, but were not mindful of his wonders. Had they really considered them as miracles, they would have obeyed from a principle of faith and holy fear: had they duly considered them as mercies, they would have obeyed from a principle of gratitude and holy love.
