Wondrous:
The plagues he inflicted on the Egyptians. Egypt is called the land of Ham, or rather, Cham, because it was peopled by Mizraim the son of Ham, and grandson of Noah. Plutarch informs us, that the Egyptians called their country Χημια, Chemia; and the Copts give it the name of Chemi, Χημι, to the present day. "And smoteª ° all¹ the firstbornª in Egypt;ª the chiefª of [their] strengthª in the tabernaclesª of Ham:ª" {Psa 78:51} + "Israelª also came² ° into¹ Egypt;ª and Jacobª sojournedª ° in the landª of Ham.ª" {Psa 105:23} + "They shewedª ° his signsª ª among them, and wondersª in the landª of Ham.ª ... He smoteª ° also all¹ the firstbornª in their land,ª the chiefª of all¹ their strength.ª" {Psa 105:27-36}
