I sinkª ° in deepª mire,ª where [there is] no¹ standing:ª I am comeª ° into deepª waters,ª where the floodsª overflowª ° me." {Psa 69:1-2} + "The sorrowsª of deathª compassedª ° me, and the painsª of hellª gat hold² ° upon¹ me: I foundª ° troubleª and sorrow.ª ... he arose:
"Which stillethª ° the noiseª of the seas,ª the noiseª of their waves,ª and the tumultª of the people.ª" {Psa 65:7} + "Thou coveredstª ° it with the deepª as [with] a garment:ª the watersª stoodª ° above¹ the mountains.ª ... Thou hast setª ° a boundª that they may not¹ pass over;ª ° that they turn not againª °¹ to coverª ° the earth.ª" {Psa 104:6-9} + "For he commandeth,ª ° and raisethª ° the stormyª wind,ª which lifteth upª ° the wavesª thereof. ... He makethª ° the stormª a calm,ª so that the wavesª thereof are still.ª °" {Psa 107:25-29} + "Wherefore,¹ when I came,ª ° [was there] no¹ man?ª when I called,ª ° [was there] none¹ to answer?ª ° Is my handª shortened² ° at all,ª ° that it cannot redeem?ª ¹ or¹ have I no¹ powerª to deliver?ª ° behold,¹ at my rebukeª I dry upª ° the sea,ª I makeª ° the riversª a wilderness:ª their fishª stinketh,ª ° because [there is] no¹ ¹ water,ª and diethª ° for thirst.ª" {Isa 50:2} + "Fearª ° ye not¹ me? saithª ° the LORD:ª will ye not¹ trembleª ° at my presence,ª ¹ which¹ have placedª ° the sandª [for] the boundª of the seaª by a perpetualª decree,ª that it cannot¹ passª ° it: and though the wavesª thereof toss² ° themselves,¹ yet can they not¹ prevail;ª ° though they roar,ª ° yet can they not¹ pass overª ° it?" {Jer 5:22} + "He rebukethª ° the sea,ª and maketh it dry,² °¹ and drieth up² °¹ all¹ the rivers:ª Bashanª languisheth,ª ° and Carmel,ª and the flowerª of Lebanonª languisheth.ª °" {Nah 1:4}

and rebuked:
As the agitation of the sea was merely the effect of the wind, it was necessary to remove the cause of the commotion before the effect would cease. But who, by simply saying Peace, be still ("Andª he arose,ª ° and rebukedª ° the¹ wind,ª andª saidª ° unto the¹ sea,ª Peace,ª ° be still.ª ° Andª the¹ windª ceased,ª ° andª there wasª ° a greatª calm.ª" {Mrk 4:39}), could do this but God? One word of our Lord can change the face of nature, and calm the troubled ocean, as well as restore peace to the disconsolate soul.
