the law:
The passage quoted is taken from the prophet Isaiah; but the term torah, Law, was used by the Jews to express the whole Scriptures, law, prophets, and hagiographia; and they used it to distinguish these Sacred Writings from the words of the scribes. It is not taken from the LXX, from which it varies as much as any words can differ from others where the general meaning is similar. It accords much more with the Hebrew; and may be considered as a translation from it; "only what is said of God in the third person, in the Hebrew, is here expressed in the first person, with the addition of λεγει [Strong's G3004], Κυριος [Strong's G2962]," saith the Lord. - Dr. Randolph. "Jesusª answeredª° them,ª Is¹ it²° notª writtenª° inª yourª law,ª Iª said,ª° Ye areª° gods?ª" {Jhn 10:34} + "Nowª we knowª° thatª what things soeverª the¹ lawª saith,ª° it saithª° to them¹ who are underª the¹ law:ª thatª everyª mouthª may be stopped,ª° andª allª the¹ worldª may becomeª° guiltyª before God.ª" {Rom 3:19}
With:
"The LORDª shall bringª° a nationª against¹ thee from far,ª¹ from the endª¹ of the earth,ª [as swift] as¹ the eagleª flieth;ª° a nationª whose¹ tongueª thou shalt not¹ understand;ª°" {Deu 28:49} + "For¹ with stammeringª lipsª and anotherª tongueª will he speakª° to¹ this¹ people.ª ... To¹ whom¹ he said,ª° This¹ [is] the restª [wherewith] ye may cause the wearyª to rest;ª° and this¹ [is] the refreshing:ª yet they wouldª° not¹ hear.ª°" {Isa 28:11-12} + "Lo,¹ I will bringª° a nationª upon¹ you from far,ª¹ O houseª of Israel,ª saithª° the LORD:ª it¹ [is] a mightyª nation,ª it¹ [is] an ancientª¹ nation,ª a nationª whose languageª thou knowestª° not,¹ neither¹ understandestª° what¹ they say.ª°" {Jer 5:15}
