And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.

But Pilatos wondered if he were now dead; and he called the centurion and asked him whether before the time he was dead:

And Pilate wondered that he should be already dead. And he called the centurion, and inquired if he had been any time dead.

ὁ δὲ Πειλᾶτος ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκεν, καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν εἰ ἤδη ἀπέθανεν:

The-one moreover a-Peilatos it-marvelled-to if which-then it-had-come-to-die, and having-called-toward-unto to-the-one to-a-kenturion it-upon-entreated-unto to-it if which-then it-had-died-off.
