Who in hope believed against hope, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So shall thy seed be.

Whoª againstª hopeª believedª° inª hope,ª that² heª might becomeª° the fatherª of manyª nations,ª accordingª to that which was spoken,ª° Soª shall²° thyª seedª be.ª°

and who, without hope, unto hope believed that he should be the father of many nations, as it is written, that "so shall be thy seed."

And without hope, he confided in the hope of becoming the father of a multitude of nations; (as it is written: So will thy seed be.)

ὃς παρ' ἐλπίδα ἐπ' ἐλπίδι ἐπίστευσεν εἰς τὸ γενέσθαι αὐτὸν πατέρα πολλῶν ἐθνῶν κατὰ τὸ εἰρημένον Οὕτως ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα σου:
