 1:1 ¶
The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by the hand of his messenger. Lay [it], I pray you, to heart. |
|
 1:1 ¶
The burdenº
of the wordº
of Yahwehº
toº
Israelº
byº
Malachi.º |
|
 1:2
I have loved you, saith the Lord. And ye said, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob, |
 1:2
I have lovedºº
you, saithººº
Yahweh.º
Yet ye say,ºº
Whereinº
hast thou lovedºº
us? [Was] notº
Esauº
Jacob'sº
brother?º
saithººº
Yahweh:º
yet I lovedººº
Jacob,º |
|
 1:3
and hated Esau and laid waste his borders, and made his heritage as dwellings of the wilderness? |
 1:3
And I hatedºº
Esau,º
and laidººº
his mountainsº
and his heritageº
wasteº
for the dragonsº
of the wilderness.º |
|
 1:4
Because one will say, Edom{gr.Idumea} has been overthrown, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places; thus saith the Lord Almighty, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The borders of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord has set himself for ever. |
 1:4
Whereasº
Edomº
saith,ºº
We are impoverished,ºº
but we will returnºº
and buildºº
the desolate places;º
thusº
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
Theyº
shall build,ºº
but Iº
will throw down;ºº
and they shall callºº
them, The borderº
of wickedness,º
and, The peopleº
against whomº
Yahwehº
hath indignationºº
forº
ever.ºº |
|
 1:5
And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The Lord has been magnified upon the borders of Israel. |
 1:5
And your eyesº
shall see,ºº
and yeº
shall say,ºº
Yahwehº
will be magnifiedºº
fromºº
the borderº
of Israel.º |

 1:6 ¶
A son honours [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I am a father, where is mine honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord Almighty. Ye the priests are they that despise my name: yet ye said, Wherein have we despised thy name? |
 1:6 ¶
A sonº
honourethºº
[his] father,º
and a servantº
his adon:º
ifº
then Iº
[be] a father,º
whereº
[is] mine honour?º
and ifº
Iº
[be] a adon,º
whereº
[is] my fear?º
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaothº
unto you, O priests,º
that despiseºº
my name.º
And ye say,ºº
Whereinº
have we despisedººº
thy name?º |
|
 1:7
In that ye bring to mine altar polluted bread; and ye said, Wherein have ye polluted it? In that ye say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and that which was set thereon ye have despised. |
 1:7
Ye offerºº
pollutedºº
breadº
uponº
mine altar;º
and ye say,ºº
Whereinº
have we pollutedºº
thee? In that ye say,ºº
The tableº
of Yahwehº
[is] contemptible.ºº |
|
 1:8
For if ye bring a blind [victim] for sacrifices, [is it] not evil? and if ye bring the lame or the sick, [is it] not evil? offer it now to thy ruler, [and see] if he will receive thee, if he will accept thy person, saith the Lord Almighty. |
 1:8
And ifº
ye offerºº
the blindº
for sacrifice,ºº
[is it] notº
evil?º
and ifº
ye offerºº
the lameº
and sick,ºº
[is it] notº
evil?º
offerºº
it nowº
unto thy governor;º
will he be pleasedºº
with thee, orº
acceptºº
thy person?º
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth.º |
|
 1:9
And now intreat the face of your God, and make supplication to him. These things have been done by your hands; shall I accept you? saith the Lord Almighty. |
 1:9
And now,º
I pray you,º
beseechººº
Elº
that he will be graciousºº
unto us: thisº
hath beenº
by your means:ºº
will he regardºº
yourº
persons?º
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth.º |
|
 1:10
Because even among you the doors shall be shut, and [one] will not kindle [the fire of] mine altar for nothing, I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord Almighty, and I will not accept a sacrifice at your hands. |
 1:10
Whoº
[is there] evenº
among you that would shutºº
the doorsº
[for nought]? neitherº
do ye kindleºº
[fire] on mine altarº
for nought.º
I have noº
pleasureº
in you, saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
neitherº
will I acceptºº
an offeringº
at your hand.ºº |
|
 1:11
For from the rising of the sun even to the going down [thereof] my name has been glorified among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the Lord Almighty. |
 1:11
Forº
from the risingºº
of the sunº
even untoº
the going downº
of the same my nameº
[shall be] greatº
among the Gentiles;º
and in everyº
placeº
incenseºº
[shall be] offeredºº
unto my name,º
and a pureº
offering:º
forº
my nameº
[shall be] greatº
among the heathen,º
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth.º |
|
 1:12 ¶
But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of the Lord is polluted, and his meats set thereon are despised. |
 1:12 ¶
But yeº
have profanedºº
it, in that ye say,ºº
The tableº
of Yahwehºº
[is] polluted;ºº
and the fruitº
thereof, [even] his meat,º
[is] contemptible.ºº |
|
 1:13
And ye said, These [services] are troublesome: therefore I have utterly rejected them with scorn, saith the Lord Almighty: and ye brought in torn victims, and lame, and sick: if then ye should bring an offering, shall I accept them at your hands? saith the Lord Almighty. |
 1:13
Ye saidºº
also, Behold,º
what a wearinessºº
[is it]! and ye have snuffedºº
atº
it, saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth;º
and ye broughtºº
[that which was] torn,ºº
and the lame,º
and the sick;ºº
thus ye broughtººº
an offering:º
should I acceptºº
this of your hand?ºº
saithºº
Yahweh.º |
|
 1:14
And cursed [is the man] who had the power, and possessed a male in his flock, and whose vow is upon him, and who sacrifices a corrupt thing to the Lord: for I am a great King, saith the Lord Almighty, and my name is glorious among the nations. |
 1:14
But cursedºº
[be] the deceiver,ºº
whichº
hathº
in his flockº
a male,º
and voweth,ºº
and sacrificethºº
unto Yahwehº
a corrupt thing:ºº
forº
Iº
[am] a greatº
King,º
saithºº
Yahwehº
Sabaoth,º
and my nameº
[is] dreadfulºº
among the heathen.º |
